At Doc's we don't see this as trash basketball, we see this as a huge opportunity to make money...on trash basketball. What are NBA Picks Against the Spread?

Most NBA bettors are going to make NBA picks against the spread. This is also known as NBA picks ATS. Sportsbooks give each NBA team a handicap of X amount of points. That means if books think the Lakers are 4 points better than the Celtics they will offer a line of Lakers -4. If a Doc's handicapper has reason to believe the Lakers are much more than 4 points better, his pick against the spread would be to take the Lakers -4. This is how all bets on the spread work unless bookmakers consider both teams to be evenly matched, in which case the line is a pick, AKA pick'em. At Doc's the majority of our NBA selections are against the spread. However, there can be outstanding value on betting NBA totals.

What are NBA Over/Under Picks?

The pace of the game, as well as which team dictates the pace, is a key factor when handicapping basketball games. When pace is an especially strong signal, it may dictate a pick on the over/under. An NBA over/under pick is another way of referring to a prediction on an NBA game point total. NBA total lines are usually well above 200 in today's NBA making them harder for the betting public to find value. For example, the 2004 Detroit Pistons team was very consistently within 5 points of the 90 they averaged. In today's NBA, greater scoring means greater variance. However, professional basketball handicappers can use this to their advantage as the sportsbooks also try to keep track of the higher scoring NBA totals. What are NBA Parlay Picks?

Parlay picks are sucker bets they say! Never bet and NBA parlay they say! Bettors that speak in these absolutes clearly haven't learned how to find value betting basketball. Sure, the payout on parlays at most sportsbooks have gone down to the point where putting two of your picks together for the sake of winning more is not a good investment. But what if your parlay picks could be made on the same game? That is called a correlated NBA parlay. Many sportsbooks offer the ability to make NBA bets against the spread and total in the same game. So if you have a great read on a game and expect one team to quit and fall behind, you may decide to make an NBA parlay prediction. At Doc's our experts will offer a free parlay pick in rare cases. It is not common because we need to find value for our customers on both lines before they move. If our parlay prediction is indeed on the same game, we need to confirm there is value regardless of the fact that you can't line shop the odds on a parlay. Both bets in a parlay must be made at the same sportsbook. If there is a free selection on the total over of -14 and under 200 it was offered knowing that those lines can be found at most Las Vegas sportsbooks and online.

What are NBA Playoff Predictions?

Once the regular season is over the NBA tends to resemble the national football league in many ways. Bettors have much more time to make their NBA playoff picks as teams travel to each other's arenas and rest between series. Making successful NBA playoff predictions is as much about when you bet as it is who you bet on. A series might not start for days. That means an NBA spread may move quite a few points especially as the public bets closer to the action. If we see value in a playoff prediction it will rely heavily on getting the line we are quoting in said NBA pick. In the words of the great Tony George, "We are betting numbers, not teams!" That may not be more relevant than when making picks on the NBA playoff games.

8-Unit Play Take LA Lakers/Orlando OVER 215.5 (7 p.m. EST, Monday March 24)
The Lakers have a couple key players on the injury report but should mostly be at full strength here. There could be a line move depending on injury updates, but we think this one will go well over the posted number. The Magic are really clicking on offense right now and they are playing their best offensive basketball of the season by far. This team has been an Under machine for most of the season, where they struggled to reach the century mark on the scoreboard night in and night out. But they have scored 108 or more in eight of their last nine games. They have gone over 110 in six of those games, and over 120 in two, including last time out against the Wizards. Orlando has picked up their pace of play, and they have been playing with real confidence on the offensive end. Seven of their last 11 games have gone over the posted number as a result. The Lakers are trending to the over, as six of their last eight have gone over the posted total. They allowed 146 last time out in a loss to the Bulls. They have been putting up 115 or more on offense on a regular basis lately. These teams put up 230+ in the last meeting in November. That was a close game, and we expect this one to be as well. Overtime is not out of the question. Five of the last six meetings have surpassed this total. We think the oddsmakers are a little behind on the way this Magic offense has improved, and as a result there has been value in their overs in recent games.

The Suns are fighting to stay in the 10th spot in the playoffs and winning four of five has helped their cause mightily. This team has looked like a mess all season and with the amount of money they are spending on JD, Booker and Beal they should be in the top five in the West. There is changes coming this summer so this could be this group’s last chance so look for the good basketball to continue and for Phoenix to get another win.

Note, we have a 7*CBB that goes off early at 2:30pm eastern today! Per this game, Minnesota just lost to this team about a week ago in overtime by a score of 130-132 and they are going to be very motivated coming in. I mean when this team lost to the Pelicans 2 games ago, they decided to destroy them immediately the next game. This is the same team that went on the road to Denver win, they do quite well with revenge, Pacers have Lakers on deck and it makes a lot of sense to back the Timberwolves on this public fade as well.

The Kings #9 offense up against the Celtics #7 ranked offense here. Boston avenging a home loss to the Kings back in January where they scored only 97 points. Yes, the Kings play some defense but Boston put up 121 and 129 their last 2 games. Third straight road game for Boston and they played last night and I expect tired legs on defense for them. The Kings gave up 114 and 128 their last 2 games. I expect some scoring, as I have this power rated at 230.

4-Unit Play: #558 Denver -3-110 over Chicago (Monday, March 24, 2025, 9:10pm ET)

Take Denver ATS as my top NBA pick for Monday night. This pick falls into one of my top NBA systems and I really like Denver in the spot, especially with Chicago coming off back-to-back victories against Sacramento and the Lakers. This is also a very tough spot for Chicago playing their sixth straight road game. Yes, Jokic is out for this game but that does not bother me at all. Denver is coming off a nice victory at Houston as 7.5-point underdogs where they held Houston to shooting just 44% against them. Denver also shot 51% overall as a team in that victory including 48% from beyond the arc. Now I did give you Chicago in a parlay on my video against the Lakers and they showed up like I expected but I feel like this is a very bad spot for them. Play Denver ATS

LeBron is listed as probable, the Lakers are healthy, and I expect a highly motivated effort after the Lakers were crushed 146-115 by Chicago in LeBron’s return. The loss followed a 118-89 defeat at the hands of Milwaukee. Los Angeles lost to Orlando earlier this season and it's worth noting that NBA road favorites in revenge of a home loss are 26-6 ATS if they’re off a double digit loss as a favorite (+11 ppg margin). The Magic are dead last in scoring and 28th in offensive efficiency. I’m betting the Lakers will be in an ornery mood and take it out on Orlando. I’m backing the Lakers on Monday. Thanks & GL! I really like the 'under' here. Phoenix has been playing great on this homestand and scoring points in bunches, but this Bucks team is solid defensively and Milwaukee will want to slow down the Suns scoring attack. Milwaukee is 9-16 versus the total in non-conference games and they are playing their fourth straight road game. These are two of the slower paced teams in the NBA and I see them playing that way against each other tonight. Take the 'under'.

3 Unit Play Take #549 Los Angeles Lakers -3.5 over Orlando (7:10pm est):

The Orlando Magic have really struggled when going up against winning teams from the much tougher Western Conference going an awful 1-13 this year versus them and that lone win was by just 1 point as well. On the other side of things the Los Angeles Lakers laid a big egg in their last game losing by 31 points at home on Saturday to the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers got back LeBron James in that game after he missed two weeks of action and I think James should be much better in this contest tonight. LA had been playing some excellent basketball before the injury bug hit them hard over the last two weeks but they're healthy again and should be able to handle a team like the Magic in this one tonight.

Boston comes into this game back on a heater. Boston is 52-19 on the year, 9-1 in their last 10 games, and have now won 5 consecutive matchups. Boston just lit up Portland last night in a 129-116 final last night. So Boston will be playing on back-to-backs tonight. Boston will also be playing their 3rd consecutive road game of a 6-game stand. If Boston wants any chance at winning the east, it must win from here on out. Sacramento is back to .500 basketball with a record sitting at 35-35. Sacramento is 3-7 in their last 10 games and is presently on a two-game losing streak after dropping to Milwaukee on Saturday in a 114-108 final. Boston ranks 2nd across offensive ratings, 7th in PPG, and 1st from the arc. Sacramento is 24th in defensive steals, 21st from the arc, 15th in rebounds, and has a defensive rating sitting at 23rd in the league. I believe Boston barrels right through Sacramento tonight, covers our 6-point differential, and extends this to a 6-game winning streak.

The Suns and the Bucks are playing tonight in Phoenix. Damian Lillard will still be out for the Bucks here tonight. Both of these teams enter this game on winning streaks. The Bucks are on a two-game winning streak while the Suns are coming in on a three-game winning streak. The clash will be Milwaukee's fourth straight road game here tonight. They have one more road game in Denver before going back home to play the Knicks. This season, the Suns have a 22-13 record at home, where they play their best basketball. They have recently secured victories at home against the Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls, a team that has been gaining momentum. It seems like every time the Suns are at home, they bring their A game. Well, without Lillard here tonight, Milwaukee might be slow on the offensive side. I expect this Suns team to dominate their home game tonight. Take the Phoenix Suns -3 over the Milwaukee Bucks.

We have a matchup on the hardwood floors between the Dallas Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets. Dallas is coming off a comfortable win over the Pistons in their last game, 123-117at home on Friday. The Nets team is currently experiencing a three-game losing streak. Just dropped by the Indiana Pacers on the road on Saturday. These Nets are 2-8 in their last ten games. This season, their home record stands at 11-22. The Dallas Mavericks are 14-21 on the road. Dallas just pulled off a satisfying win over the Pistons and is now having to travel to Brooklyn to face these Nets. The Nets are a team that has been struggling to find consistency throughout the season. But tonight I believe they will snap their losing streak and find themselves winning this game against the Mavericks. To play it safe, take the point with the Nets tonight. Take the Brooklyn Nets +1 over the Dallas Mavericks.
