NBA Picks
The NBA is considered by many to be the best league for sports betting. Yes, the NFL is king in terms of popularity and wagering volume per game but nothing beats NBA basketball over the course of a season. Why? There are many opportunities to make NBA picks every night. NBA lines move more often and are not as sharp as football lines which are under the microscope all week. NBA odds have a much shorter lifespan meaning there are greater opportunities to find value. That gives Doc's basketball handicappers exponentially more opportunities to offer daily free NBA picks and be even more selective when offering expert NBA picks.
Free NBA Picks and Expert Predictions
You can find Free NBA picks throughout the Doc's Sports network including this free NBA predictions page; on our Doc's NBA Experts page; and on the Youtube channels of our expert NBA handicappers. We now also have a very popular NBA video section that is updated daily with several videos during the NBA season. Check the video link on the top navigation. Those ready to take advantage of our Free $60 in member selections can click the button at the top of this page and start receiving free expert predictions.
Get your NBA Picks Today, and Everyday!
Doc's offers expert NBA picks today and every day of the NBA season! Sure, there are the days when the NBA card consists of only tanking teams competing for the right to draft the next Zion Williamson. These teams are bad and their competition for an audience is Seinfeld reruns or maybe getting an extra hour of sleep. At Doc's we don't see this as trash basketball, we see this as a huge opportunity to make money...on trash basketball. Each day during the basketball season is an opportunity to make valuable and profitable predictions
What are NBA Picks Against the Spread?
Most NBA bettors are going to make NBA picks against the spread. This is also known as NBA picks ATS. Sportsbooks give each NBA team a handicap of X amount of points. That means if books think the Lakers are 4 points better than the Celtics they will offer a line of Lakers -4. If a Doc's handicapper has reason to believe the Lakers are much more than 4 points better, his pick against the spread would be to take the Lakers -4. This is how all bets on the spread work unless bookmakers consider both teams to be evenly matched, in which case the line is a pick, AKA pick'em. At Doc's the majority of our NBA selections are against the spread. However, there can be outstanding value on betting NBA totals.
What are NBA Over/Under Picks?
The pace of the game, as well as which team dictates the pace, is a key factor when handicapping basketball games. When pace is an especially strong signal, it may dictate a pick on the over/under. An NBA over/under pick is another way of referring to a prediction on an NBA game point total. NBA total lines are usually well above 200 in today's NBA making them harder for the betting public to find value. For example, the 2004 Detroit Pistons team was very consistently within 5 points of the 90 they averaged. In today's NBA, greater scoring means greater variance. However, professional basketball handicappers can use this to their advantage as the sportsbooks also try to keep track of the higher scoring NBA totals. Doc's sports NBA total picks are some of the best in the business and our total prediction write-ups are insightful. Along with offering our NBA expert picks, we provide free selections that are intended to help bettors with their handicapping legwork.
What are NBA Parlay Picks?
Parlay picks are sucker bets they say! Never bet and NBA parlay they say! Bettors that speak in these absolutes clearly haven't learned how to find value betting basketball. Sure, the payout on parlays at most sportsbooks have gone down to the point where putting two of your picks together for the sake of winning more is not a good investment. But what if your parlay picks could be made on the same game? That is called a correlated NBA parlay. Many sportsbooks offer the ability to make NBA bets against the spread and total in the same game. So if you have a great read on a game and expect one team to quit and fall behind, you may decide to make an NBA parlay prediction. At Doc's our experts will offer a free parlay pick in rare cases. It is not common because we need to find value for our customers on both lines before they move. If our parlay prediction is indeed on the same game, we need to confirm there is value regardless of the fact that you can't line shop the odds on a parlay. Both bets in a parlay must be made at the same sportsbook. If there is a free selection on the total over of -14 and under 200 it was offered knowing that those lines can be found at most Las Vegas sportsbooks and online.
What are NBA Playoff Predictions?
Once the regular season is over the NBA tends to resemble the national football league in many ways. Bettors have much more time to make their NBA playoff picks as teams travel to each other's arenas and rest between series. Making successful NBA playoff predictions is as much about when you bet as it is who you bet on. A series might not start for days. That means an NBA spread may move quite a few points especially as the public bets closer to the action. If we see value in a playoff prediction it will rely heavily on getting the line we are quoting in said NBA pick. In the words of the great Tony George, "We are betting numbers, not teams!" That may not be more relevant than when making picks on the NBA playoff games.

7-Unit Play Take Detroit -4.5 over San Antonio (8:30 p.m. EST, Friday February 21)
This game is the second of a back-to-back for the Spurs played in Austin, down the road from their home in San Antonio. The Spurs got some horrible news yesterday that Wemby has been shelved for the season in his second season. This team was mediocre with him but they will be pretty bad without him. And it might make awhile for new addition De’Aron Fox to gel with his teammates. The Spurs played great on Thursday in their win over the Suns. But we saw them give a lot of effort there against a conference opponent, so we have to question not only their stamina here with a sudden lack of depth but also their motivation against a nonconference opponent. Oftentimes when a top player goes down, the rest of the team will step up for a game but there is no doubt losing Wemby hurts this team badly. Detroit has been playing excellent basketball and they are a legit playoff team in our eyes. This is their first game back after the break and they will have a lot of energy. We liked the Pistons here even before the news came out of San Antonio, and we like them even more now.
Best of Luck – Doc’s Sports

7-Unit Play. Take #517 Golden State (-2.5) Over Sacramento (10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)
The Kings got older, slower, and worse on defense … hard to imagine what Sacramento is doing after this past trade deadline. Warriors on the other hand got much much better by getting Jimmy Butler and his win first and hard nose style. Warriors are going to make run and it starts tonight as Curry, Butler, & Green will there way to road to open post all star break. Take Golden State to win and cover the spread tonight.
2-Unit Play. Take 5 point NBA teaser, Minnesota (+9) Over Houston (9:30 p.m) & Toronto (+8) Over Miami (7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)
Two live underdogs, and do like them to cover but for sure like them with these extra 5 points. Minnesota and Edwards might pull outright upset and Toronto might even pull outright upset too.

3-Unit Play. Take #509 Detroit (-4.5) over San Antonio (8:30 p.m., Friday, February 21)
The Pistons were one of the hottest teams in the NBA before the break. They won four in a row and six of eight to out their record at a very respectable 29-26. They are going to be a thorn in someone’s side come playoff time and they should have a great chance to hang on to the 6th seed. The Spurs got a crap hand dealt to them with Wemby going out for the year so they will be in next year mode sooner than later. This is a rough spot for them so lay the small number in Texas this evening.
Carpe diem. Good luck.
Arun Shiva (Indian Cowboy)
4-Unit Play. #507. Take Under 220 Miami vs. Toronto (Friday @ 7:40pm est)
We roll with the Under here, don't forget we have a 7*CBB and 7* Prop today as we are on a 4-0 Run in CBB and won our 8* prop recently on Lamelo Ball Over in Points (+4440 Run). We have won 12 of 14 March Madnesses so this is the time of year we excel. Per this game, this is a great spot to take the Under. Miami beat this team 114-104 last time. So Toronto has some revenge coming in but what we like about this game is the fact that Miami has lost 4 in a row coming in and giving up 118 and 115 points the last 2 games. They gave up 34 points in the 4th quarter to Dallas and 63 points in the 2nd half, as they face Toronto here, who also gave up 131 points in their last game to Cleveland including a 41 spot at the end of the end of the first quarter and the fact that Miami comes off 4 straight losses and their entire focus will be on defense today as well as Toronto's the under does make sense for us here.

#501 Memphis (-3.5) over Orlando *7 EST
Back-to-Back for both teams, Orlando with a win over Atlanta on the road and Memphis off a loss to Indiana. Memphis had a very bad first half allowing 50 points in the second quarter, and Morant had just 12 points in the game. They will be out for some revenge tonight and I do not see Orlando trading punches all night against a determined Grizzles team who are the 2nd best ATS team in the NBA behind Cleveland. Suggs is still out for Orlando and I think it hurts them here with a Memphis team who looks to redeem themselves off a loss tonight.
3 Units
#517 Golden St (-2.5) over Sacramento *10 EST
I am back Golden State in this one as Jimmy Butler has fit in as well as an old hat fits. He has averaged 21 ppg and Curry has averaged 31 ppg in the 4 games they have played together. This trade has made the Warriors a playoff contender and a stronger team. Sacramento losing Fox to the Spurs hurt this team and they have been hit and miss at best under the coaching change and all the transition to the roster. I like the Warriors on the road here.

4-Unit Play: #507–508 Miami/Toronto GAME TOTAL UNDER 220-110 (Friday, February 21, 2025, 7:40pm ET)
Take Miami / Toronto GAME TOTAL UNDER as my top NBA pick for Friday night. This pick falls into one of my top NBA systems and I expect a low scoring game here given the way these two teams match up against each other. The last time these two teams met back on December 12th Miami shot 41% from beyond the arc and 48% overall and still put up just 114 total points. Meanwhile Toronto shot 45% as a team overall and 34% from beyond the art putting up just 104 total points. Both of these teams have fresh legs and I expect both teams to step up defensively here tonight. Miami has shot just 45.4% as a team overall this season which ranks 22nd offensively in the NBA averaging just 109.8 points per game and Toronto has averaged just 110.6 points per game this season which ranks 23nd offensively in the NBA. Play the UNDER

2-Unit Play: Take 501 Grizzlies -3 over Magic (7:10 p.m., Friday, February 20)
Both teams played last night and while Orlando knocked off Atlanta, Memphis lost to Indiana thanks in part to a horrible second quarter. There was some rustiness last night but Memphis is on a 7-2 ATS run when playing in the second of back to back nights. They’re also 20-6 ATS this season, winning by 14 ppg, against teams with a losing record and Memphis has covered 13 of their last 15 against Eastern Conference opponents. The Grizzlies are 5th best in FG accuracy including 6th best shooting the 3-pointer. Orlando is in the bottom-third defending those categories and they’ve covered just seven of 23 when getting points. I’m laying the points with Memphis. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.
7-Unit Play: Take 509 Pistons -4.5 over Spurs (8:40 p.m., Friday, February 20)
The Spurs were inspired last night after finding out they’ve lost Wembanyama for the season (blood clot). It’s nothing new to see a team play their tails off the first night without their star player, only to lose next time out. I believe that’ll be the case tonight. Even before Wemby was sidelined, the Spurs were struggling, winning and covering just five of their previous 18 games, while Detroit has played .670 basketball since the third week of December. Solid spot for the chalk. I’m laying the points with the Pistons. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

3-Unit Play - Take #518 Sacramento Kings +2 -110 over Golden State Warriors (2/21 @ 10:10PM EST) These two teams are extremely even when it comes to advanced metrics. The Warriors are getting all the public action here as small road chalk, but I disagree. Both are tied for ninth place in the Western Conference but Draymond Green put a target on the back of the Warriors since proclaiming how they are going to win the championship since the addition of Jimmy Butler. However; The Kings have added a nice piece themselves with Zach LaVine who aided them in winning three of their last four prior to the break. FWIW; Golden State have an average win margin of +1.20 ppg on the road this season, while the Kings have an average win margin of +2.40 ppg. In my opinion; this is a coin-flip, and we're able to pick up an extra two points on such a scenario. That's a solid edge, and we will sprinkle a little something on the moneyline as well. Let's go!

4-Unit Play. Take #509 Detroit (-4.5) over San Antonio (8:40 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)
The Spurs played spirited basketball last night as they beat an overrated Suns team after hearing that they would be without their best player for the remainder of the season. Now they have to play a back-to-back against a streaking Pistons team that has won six of their last eight games. The Spurs will come back down to earth today as the weight of losing Wembanyama will start to take its toll. San Antonio is just 9-14 ATS in their 23 games following a win this season, and that was with their dominant big man. Detroit does a great job of dominating the paint as they are fifth in the NBA in defensive rebounding and 10th in rim defense. That is not something the Spurs want to see as they just lost their best rebounder. San Antonio wasn't playing great with Wembanyama as they had covered just six of their last 19 games, and now without him, they are in for a rough night in Austin, Texas. Take the road favorite here.
3-Unit Play. Take #501 Memphis (-3.5) over Orlando (7:10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)
I missed on Memphis last night as they played flat in the Hoosier state, but I like them to bounce back here. The Grizzlies were playing off a loss last night but didn't match the solid stretch that we are acustomed to seeing when Memphis is off a loss. I'd guess that the long layoff had more to do with it than I expected, but now we get Memphis off a loss and on a back-to-back, which is where they shine. The Grizzlies are now 14-4 ATS off a loss this season and they are 7-2 ATS on the second leg of a back-to-back. The Magic are one of the best home favorites in the NBA as they are 13-7 ATS when favored at home, but they are just 2-4-1 ATS in their seven games as a home dog. Take the road favorite here.

3 Unit Play Take #507 Miami -3 over Toronto (7:40pm est):
I think we get a strong effort here tonight from a Miami Heat team that's dropped four straight. The Heat are not as good of a team since trading away Jimmy Butler but this is still a solid run organization that brings good effort to the court on most nights. On the other side of things Toronto is on pace for only a 25 win season this year making them one of the worst teams in the league.
Play Miami minus the points.
Thank you and good luck,

3 Unit Play - Take #515 Oklahoma City Thunder (-15) Over Utah Jazz. (9:30p.m, Friday, February 21st)
Oklahoma City comes into this game 44-10 on the year, 8-2 in their last 10 games, and coming off a 101-116 loss to Minnesota last night. Oklahoma City is coming off back-to-back road games here and just got slaughtered last night. We must anticipate this team is going to go full throttle tonight after finishing the All-Star break and getting pounded to open the next half of their season. Utah is a brutal 13-41 on the year, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and coming off an OT loss last night to the Clippers in a 120-116 final. Utah is a brutal 6-19 at home, 15-22 ATS when playing in-conference matchups, and 19-21 ATS after a loss. OKC should roll over Utah in tonight’s matchup and get the second half of their season rolling now.
Take #515 Oklahoma City Thunder (-15) Over Utah Jazz.

7-Unit Play. Take #517 Golden State (-2.5) Over Sacramento (10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)The Kings got older, slower, and worse on defense … hard to imagine what Sacramento is doing after this past trade deadline.

Take #509 Detroit (-4.5) over San Antonio (8:30 p.m., Friday, February 21)The Pistons were one of the hottest teams in the NBA before the break.
Carpe diem. Good luck.

4-Unit Play. #507. Take Under 220 Miami vs. Toronto (Friday @ 7:40pm est)We roll with the Under here, don't forget we have a 7*CBB and 7* Prop today as we are on a 4-0 Run in CBB and won our 8* prop recently on Lamelo Ball Over in Points (+4440 Run).

4-Unit Play: #507–508 Miami/Toronto GAME TOTAL UNDER 220-110 (Friday, February 21, 2025, 7:40pm ET)Take Miami / Toronto GAME TOTAL UNDER as my top NBA pick for Friday night.

2-Unit Play: Take 501 Grizzlies -3 over Magic (7:10 p.m., Friday, February 20)Both teams played last night and while Orlando knocked off Atlanta, Memphis lost to Indiana thanks in part to a horrible second quarter.

4-Unit Play. Take #509 Detroit (-4.5) over San Antonio (8:40 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21)The Spurs played spirited basketball last night as they beat an overrated Suns team after hearing that they would be without their best player for the remainder of the season.

Friday February 21st 2025-3 Unit Play Take #507 Miami -3 over Toronto (7:40pm est):
I think we get a strong effort here tonight from a Miami Heat team that's dropped four straight. The Heat are not as good of a team since trading away Jimmy Butler but this is still a solid run organization that brings good effort to the court on most nights. On the other side of things Toronto is on pace for only a 25 win season this year making them one of the worst teams in the league.
Play Miami minus the points.
Thank you and good luck,
Jason Sharpe

3 Unit Play - Take #515 Oklahoma City Thunder (-15) Over Utah Jazz. (9:30p.m, Friday, February 21st)Oklahoma City comes into this game 44-10 on the year, 8-2 in their last 10 games, and coming off a 101-116 loss to Minnesota last night.
