US Open Tennis Predictions: Men’s Tournament Futures
This week marks the final major of the 2024 tennis season, and it is time for the US Open. The single draws were released late last week, and it is time to break down the action that will take place over the next two weeks in Flushing Meadows, New York. Novak Djokovic heads into the tournament as the defending champion and is looking for his 25th career major title. He should be riding into New York with extreme confidence after winning the Olympic gold for the first time in his career. World No. 1, Jannik Sinner should feel good about his chances despite an up and down season. Then, there is Carlos Alcaraz, who has won the last two Grand Slam titles and has a US Open title on his resume. This has the potential to be a tremendous tournament, and Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best action from Flushing Meadows below.

Carlos Alcaraz +200
Alcaraz is going for three straight Grand Slam titles and should be elated with his draw to start this tournament. The toughest potential matchups for him are Jack Draper, Alex De Minaur, and Hubert Hurkacz on his side of the bracket. It is extremely difficult to picture any of those names threatening the phenom in New York. The courts are playing much slower than usual and that will help Alcaraz a ton. The Spaniard loves slower hard-court events, which is proven in his back-to-back Indian Wells titles. Draper has been known to struggle in the heat, De Minaur is coming off a significant injury, and Hurkacz is not too far removed from a serious knee injury. It would be an utter shock if Alcaraz does not make it to the semis.
Novak Djokovic +210
Djokovic should be heading into New York riding high with a ton of momentum and confidence after winning the gold medal in the Olympics. He could be tested early on in the US Open with potential matchups with Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round, Alexei Popyrin in the third round, and either Frances Tiafoe or Ben Shelton in the fourth round. All those names have massive serves and it will not be a walk in the park to the semis. In the end, I think he will prevail and if he gets into any tiebreakers against any of those players, that favors Djokovic. He is the best tiebreaker player in the history of the sport.
Jannik Sinner +350
Sinner heads to Flushing Meadows as the World No. 1 and top seed in the tournament. He should also boast a ton of confidence after winning the Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati last week. It has been an up and down season for the 23-year-old, navigating performance enhancing drug accusations and hip issues. Sinner was cleared of any wrongdoing, but his coaching staff has publicly stated that he is emotionally drained from the whole ordeal. Sinner should not have a true test until the fourth round where he could play against Tommy Paul or Daniil Medvedev. Paul is a grinder and uses physicality, not to mention he will have the American crowd behind him. Medvedev is as tough as they come this time of the year. Personally, I am fading Sinner at this year’s US Open.
Alexander Zverev +650
I like Zverev’s chances at reaching the semis, but this portion of the bracket screams that a longshot could make a deep run. Besides Zverev, there is Casper Ruud, Ugo Humbert, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, and Holger Rune. All of those players are capable of beating one another when playing at their best. Berrettini is intriguing at +8000 odds, as he is playing some of his best tennis since 2021 and 2022. He has also been a runner-up at a Grand Slam tournament before. I still think Zverev finds a way and navigates himself into the Final Four. You can argue he is the fourth-best player on the planet. If he plays well, he should be able to outlast any of the names above in a best-of-five match.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz
