Taylor Swift, former country music sensation turned pop star – also a Pennsylvania native -- is seemingly now a former Eagles fan turned Chiefs WAG. Swift has become a face of the Chiefs off the field, as her relationship with Travis Kelce has become an international headline since the beginning. ‘Swifties’ have now flocked to Chiefs Kingdom, boosting their merchandise and even ticket sales. Some find the attention Swift gets during an NFL broadcast annoying. However, whether you are on board or not, it is going to be a theme for this year’s Super Bowl matchup.
How could you not be on board? In a way, Swift is growing the game while also bringing big time stars like Caitlin Clark and Blake Lively to tag along, netting another array of fans. If you still find yourself against Swift becoming a symbol of the Kansas City Chiefs, try and find the bright side, there are avenues you can now take to make money off all the attention.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Let’s dive into some of the best novelty props surrounding Swift and the media obsession.
Will Taylor wear the same outfit as Super Bowl 58? Yes: +195 / No: -310
I am no fashion guru, but to me this is an easy no. Swift is almost made of money and coming off a highly successful tour. She will have endless options to choose from, and I am not sure many people of her status wear the same things over and over again on a national stage. Last year she didn’t wear team colors and surrounded herself with some of her superstar friends. However, now having another full year as a representative of the Red Kingdom and growing ever so close to the Kelce family, surely Donna Kelce will get her in something red this time around.
My Pick: No. -310
How many times is Taylor shown on the broadcast? O/U: 6.5, -125
Seven appearances are a lot, and that’s what you would need if you took the over. Last year, Swift was unofficially shown 12 times during the Super Bowl broadcast, which smashes this year’s appearance total projection. However, initial excitement of the relationship has worn off, and her attendance will be less of a surprise and more of an expectation. So, when would they show Swift? She will no doubt get a mention and an appearance for being a Pennsylvania native, and she will likely get an appearance as the broadcasters and viewers identify the suite members with Swift. Kelce is due for a touchdown, and he has shown up in big ways in previous Super Bowls, so let’s imagine he gets two scores, and we can add one more for an appearance during the halftime show (more on that later). Now we are at five if Kelce gets two touchdowns, which he hasn’t done since the Chiefs second round win over the Bills in last year’s playoffs (21 games). We could hedge any touchdown prediction with a big play that Kelce is capable of doing at any time. He has recorded receptions of 20 yards or more in 10 of the Chiefs’ 19 total games this season, so let’s say we get another view of Swift celebrating with Mrs. Kelce. That gets us to six (or five with one less touchdown) and now we are pushing it. Kelce has been rather underwhelming during the playoffs this season. Plus, the Eagles will be controlling the pace of play through their ground game and will likely have the ball longer than the Chiefs, further limiting a Swift sighting. We are at the mercy of the camera operators, but I am taking the under here.
My Pick: Under 6.5, -125
Does the Super Bowl MVP name drop Taylor? Yes: +430 / No: -670
There are only two routes to this being a yes. The first and most obvious being Kelce taking home the game’s MVP honors. Not only would he likely have a name drop put on a tee for him by the reporter, but Swift will likely have found her way down to the field and would be in his presence. Kelce did have his own dating show once and he is a future Hall of Famer, but he can attribute a lot of his new found publicity to his more famous girlfriend. Either way, how could he not? He is dating Taylor Swift. The other route is for Patrick Mahomes to acknowledge Swift in some way. Swift and Brittany Mahomes have spent a lot of time together, and Swift could be mentioned through that. Either way, I don’t see Kelce winning the award, and I think the Eagles will win, so neither of the Chiefs stars will get a chance unless Mahomes just owns the game despite a losing effort. No Eagles player would dare mention the superstar WAG; that has to fall under the NFL Bro Code.
My Pick: No, -670
Will Taylor be shown on camera during the halftime show? Yes: +140 / No: -220
Here is our first value pick. To me, this is a yes. First and foremost, the NFL would win a feel-good moment and an Instagram post of Swift enjoying the music of another music star at the biggest sporting event in the world. In addition to that, Kendrick Lamar and Swift teamed up years ago for the song Bad Blood. Though that song won’t be on Lamar’s set for the halftime show, there is little reason to think Swift won’t be enjoying the performance of her former collaborator and co-performer. Unless Jason Kelce is up in the suite and in everyone’s ear going on and on about his brother’s necessary halftime adjustments, Swift will be enjoying Lamar’s performance, and this is on the camera operator’s list of things to look for.
My Pick: Yes, +140
Will Travis Kelce propose after the Super Bowl? Yes: +750 / No: -1500
I have to stick with the chalk pick here. While they could be the next Gisele and Tom Brady or Ciara and Russell Wilson, this seems like a far-fetched idea. Think about how synonymous Swift is with the idea of romance. Listen to her songs, and that is what she is after. Is it really that romantic to propose at the Super Bowl? Sure, that would be every boy’s dream as a kid, but Kelce might have to abide by adult expectations on this one. I am all for the idea of these two playing the long game here. Kelce is near the end of his career, and Swift’s legacy is secure. Perhaps as the popstar ages, she will move away from all the Bad Blood of her past and finally find her Love Story in Kelce, but it won’t be cemented at the Super Bowl.
My Pick: No, -1500
What happens first: Swift shown on broadcast or Kelce’s first reception? Swift: -142 / Kelce: +114
There are too many variables for it to be Kelce’s first reception. First and foremost, Kelce has only nine receptions this postseason, which means he has averaged just over one reception per quarter this postseason. In the postseason, the Chiefs have yet to start the game with the ball, and Kelce has not recorded a reception on the Chiefs first drive of the game. In the regular season, Kelce recorded 17 first drive receptions, but the Chiefs started with the ball in just eight games. In total, Kelce has averaged less than one reception across the Chiefs 19 first drives of the game, and the Chiefs themselves have started with the ball in just 42% of their games this season. A drive could run anywhere from three to 10 minutes. Either way, it won’t take long for us to get our first Swift sighting after kickoff.
My Pick: Swift, -142
What happens first: Swift shown on broadcast or first touchdown? Swift: +110 / Touchdown: -150
Same deal here, but this time we will get some good value by taking Swift. Unless the opening kickoff is taken to the house or the Eagles start with the ball and Saquon Barkley breaks off a big 70–80-yard run for a score, Swift will be shown before the game’s first touchdown. Even if the Eagles start with the ball, with all the additional publicity Swift has brought to this game, the broadcasters have Swift being a Pennsylvania native as one of their first talking points if the Eagles get the ball. And, of course, if the Chiefs get the ball first, we will get a quick shot of Swift and Mrs. Kelce taking in the game.
My Pick: Swift, +110
