2024-25 Philadelphia Flyers Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals
Last season, the Flyers surpassed the expectations set before them at the beginning of the year. They missed out on the final wild card spot by just four points, as they finished with 87 points and a -26-goal differential. Philadelphia struggled against the Eastern Conference, going just 19-24-7, while their best performance came against the Central Division. They, surprisingly, dominated the Central Division, going 10-3-3 in their 16 games against them.
The offense ranked 27th in the league as they managed just 2.82 GF/G. They scored just 235 goals, which was the second lowest amount in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers had the worst Power Play unit in the league. They finished with a league worst 12.2% PP%. However, their special teams weren’t all bad, as their PK% of 83.4% ranked fourth in the NHL. Travis Konecny led the team in points (68), goals (33), and assists (35). Owen Tippett and Joel Farabee both finished with 50 or more points -- Tippett finished second on the team with 53 points and 28 goals. Konecny, Tippett, and Farabee, along with Tyson Foerster, were the only Flyers to have 20 or more goals last season.
The netminding is what kept this team competitive until the final days of the season. Carter Hart was solid in his 26 games, allowing just 2.80 GA/G, but he is no longer with the team thanks to off-ice issues. Samuel Ersson emerged as a surprise consistent presence between the pipes. Ersson allowed just 2.82 GA/G across his 51 games played. Behind Ersson, it was a mess. Felix Sandstrom, Cal Petersen, and Ivan Fedotov combined to allow 4.24 GA/G over 13 games with a lowly SV% of .833.

Seasons come and go, so now it’s time to take a look at what we can expect from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2024-25:
Philadelphia Flyers Key Additions/Losses
The Flyers roster did not change much from last season. Obviously, Carter Hart is no longer with the team, which means they are missing about 20 starts that will have to go to Ersson and the lowly backups. Speaking of the backups, Felix Sandstrom left for Buffalo, while blueliner Marc Staal joined his brother in retirement.
The Flyers did re-sign defenseman Erik Johnson, who tallied three points in 17 games last season. They also brought back forward Bobby Brink (23 points) and defenseman Egor Zamula (21 points), giving each skater a two-year deal. Other than these moves, the Flyers did nothing to get better.
Philadelphia Flyers X-Factors
The Future- The Flyers far exceeded expectations last year. However, Carter Hart helped catapult them ahead, and now he is off the roster. Hart was a part of the future and a big piece of the rebuild, so losing him hurts. However, the Flyers roster is young and improving. Owen Tippett (25), Joel Farabee (24), Morgan Frost (25), Matvei Michkov (19), Tyson Foerster (22), Bobby Brink (23), Jamie Drysdale (22), Cam York (23), and Samuel Ersson (24) are all significant pieces of this roster for the future and are all 25 or younger. The Flyers will regress from last year solely because they played over their heads and are now much weaker in the crease, but they have some key pieces for the years ahead.
Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Outlook
Behind Hart and Ersson, the Flyers were absolutely awful. Now Hart is not able to contribute his 12 wins and 27 points he accounted for in the games he played. Ersson had some good defense in front of him. However, despite the attractive 2.82 GA/G mark, he only had a .890 SV%, which ranked 45th in the league. Additionally, Ersson has been thrown in the fire for the Flyers, as this is just his third season in the league and he still may not be ready to be competitive. I think it’s reasonable to expect his numbers to regress this season. Ivan Fedotov allowed 10 goals in just 121 minutes of ice time, and he is not slated as the backup. Cal Peterson is also an option, but he had just a .864 SV% last season.
Grade: F
Philadelphia Flyers Key Schedule Stretch
The 2nd half- There is nothing to note with the Flyers this year as they are likely to be near the bottom of the league standings this season. However, the second half of the season is important. The Flyers will ship off any producing veterans to add future capital and with that, any departing production not only paves the way for prospects to see the ice, but it also means the Flyers will likely lose more often. Losing more helps the odds of landing a top pick in the first round. They already have six picks in the first two rounds, including three first rounders, in the upcoming 2025 Draft. Therefore, if they have a bad second half, they’re likely to land inside the first seven picks.

Philadelphia Flyers Prediction
As mentioned, Hart was essentially worth 27 points. Now with his departure, in addition to no improvement of the roster, the under 85.5 points is the better pick. Last season, they finished with just 87 points, and that was a mark that exceeded their expectations. With no Hart and a return to earth, the Flyers will be lucky to reach the 80-point mark. Philadelphia is in for a long season.
