2024 PGA Picks: The CJ Cup Byron Nelson Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
Last week we saw the Irish duo of Shane Lowry and Rory Mcllroy battle back on Sunday to win the Zurich Classic in a playoff. The PGA Tour returns to the Lone Star State for a third time this season, as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson will take center stage this weekend. This week’s field does not boast a ton of star-power, with Jordan Spieth being the only player ranked inside the top-20 in the world. Jason Day will look to make it back-to-back victories at this event, with Si Woo Kim, Will Zalatoris, Sungjae Im, amongst others looking to stand victorious on Sunday. Doc’s Sports will break down this week’s best bets from Texas below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
TPC Craig Ranch will host this week’s Byron Nelson and has been the venue for this event since 2021. It has provided one of the easier tests on the PGA Tour with the winners posting scores of -23, -25, and -26. The track was designed by Tom Weiskopf in 2004 and is extremely green and lush for a Texas course. This is a classical parklands-type course with some tree-lines and wide fairways. It is a pretty long stretch that measures 7,414 yards and plays as a par-71. There are only three par 5s that players need to capitalize on and four of the par 4s measure over 470 yards or longer. The 6th and 14th holes provide a little excitement and decision making as both par 4s are drivable off the tee. There are also some obstacles while navigating this course, as a creek comes into play on 13 holes and there are over 80 bunkers scattered throughout the 18-hole adventure. The greens are easy to hold and are Bentgrass, so making enough putts will keep players into contention on Sunday.
Jordan Spieth +1600
Spieth has had an up-and-down season in 2024, but currently ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained and third in birdie or better conversion percentage at 37.54%. He should receive an extra boost from the hometown crowd, as the Dallas native should be in the mix to win on Sunday. He finished solo second two years ago at this event and tied for ninth in 2021. His play has been inconsistent at times this season, but he has relied on his scrambling and putting to keep him in contention on multiple occasions. With a weaker field than usual, getting Spieth as the favorite at 16-1 odds has some value for the Byron Nelson.
Stephan Jaeger +3000
It is safe to say that 2024 has been the best year on the PGA Tour for Jaeger. He collected his first-career win at the Houston Open, and posted two additional top-10s in 11 starts. TPC Craig Ranch has been pretty good to Jaeger over his first two appearances, finishing T38 and T11. He has shown the ability to fight through adversity by finishing T18 at the RBC Heritage after missing the cut at the Masters. He ranks ninth in this field in SG: Tee-to-Green over his past 24 rounds. This is a pretty solid price tag for how well Jaeger has struck the ball this season.
Mark Hubbard +5500
Hubbard has had a great start to the season, making the cut in all 12 events he has played in. Si Woo Kim and Alex Noren are the only other golfers in this field that can relate. Hubbard has tallied six top-36 finishes so far this year, including a T4 at Pebble Beach. Mark and his partner Ryan Brehm are coming off a strong start at the Zurich Classic, where they finished T3 and just one shot off of the playoff. Hubbard is also one of the better iron players in this field, ranking fourth in SG: Approach over his past 48 rounds. He has made the cut both times he has played TPC Craig Ranch, finishing T34 and T32. Hubbard is a solid option at 55-1 odds.
