2023 MLB Rookie of the Year Award Odds and Predictions for AL and NL
Predicting the AL and NL Rookie of the Year is no simple task with a plethora of young prospects. It might have been surprising in 2022 that Julio Rodriguez made the Opening Day lineup, but once he did, he had no issues taking home the hardware. Jumping to the National League, no one could have predicted Michael Harris II leaping from Double-A to the show, let alone earning the Rookie of the Year Award. But that is exactly what happened. Let us take a look at some of the young studs that could take home the award in 2023.

National League
Favorites
Jordan Walker, OF, Cardinals (+360 odds on DK)
Walker heads into 2023 as the sixth-ranked overall prospect in the majors and leap frogged Corbin Carroll as the favorite to win NLROY. This mainly has to do with the talent he displayed throughout spring training. He finished camp with 18 hits, three home runs and 9 RBIs. Despite never advancing higher than Double-A, he has made the Cardinals Opening Day roster and should have ample opportunities to display his talents.
Corbin Carroll, OF, D-backs (+400 odds on DK)
Carroll is one of the clear front-runners with Walker. As one of the best pure hitting prospects in all of baseball, there is plenty of potential for power. He hit 24 home runs in 93 Minor League games in 2022. What makes it even more impressive was that he missed nearly all of the 2021 season following shoulder surgery. Besides the 24 homers in 2022, he posted a 1.035 OPS between Double-and Triple-A before Arizona called him up at the end of the regular season. With the D-backs trading Daulton Varsho, Carroll will have a ton of opportunities to cement himself into the lineup.
Sleeper
Hayden Wesneski, P, Cubs (+3000 odds on DK)
Wesneski was named the Chicago Cubs’ fifth starter in the rotation heading into the 2023 regular season. Experience at the big league level helps any rookie pitcher, as he was called up at the end of last season and did not disappoint. He appeared in six games, and started four of them, while compiling a 3-2 record with a 2.18 ERA. He did not miss a beat this spring with a 2.12 ERA in 17 innings. He will have a legitimate chance at NLROY honors if he can produce at this level all season for the Cubs.
American League
Favorites
Gunnar Henderson, 3B/SS, Orioles (+285 odds on DK)
Henderson, taken in the 2019 Draft, made the necessary adjustments from his first full season in ’21 to his second. Drawing more walks and being more selective at the dish allowed him to make his big league debut at the end of last year for Baltimore. In his short stint with the Orioles last year, he hit .259 with four homers in 34 games. Henderson enters this season as the clear frontrunner to win ALROY and ranked as the number 1 prospect in all of baseball.
Masataka Yoshida, OF, Red Sox (+450 odds on DK)
Yoshida is not your typical rookie. The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $90-million contract with the Boston Red Sox during the offseason after seven years in Nippon Professional Baseball. He finished his career in Japan hitting .327 with 133 home runs and 567 RBIs. He also played in this year's World Baseball Classic, delivering an epic moment where he hit a three-run homer in Japan’s comeback over Mexico. Yoshida will have plenty of chances to earn ALROY honors, especially if he can put up great stats against his AL East foes.
Sleeper
Anthony Volpe, SS/INF, Yankees (+450 odds on DK)
Calling a Yankees shortstop a sleeper is kind of a stretch, but he started spring training outside the top 10 best odds to win the award and has crept his way to the third best favorite. The Yankees selected Volpe in the first round, with the 30th overall selection, of the 2019 MLB Draft. Volpe had back-to-back 20-30 seasons in the Minors, and went 20-50 in ’22 finishing in Triple-A. It is not that all surprising that he made the Yankees Opening Day lineup where he finished with a stolen base and some nice defensive plays in the field. Anytime there’s a Yankees rookie shortstop, keep an eye on him for ALROY honors.
