She is the talk of the LPGA Tour after winning for the sixth time in seven starts at the Mizuho Americas Open two weeks ago. This week’s US Women’s Open will be played at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, and there are plenty of players looking to overtake Korda in the winner’s circle. Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
The US Women’s Open debuted in 1946 and has taken place every year since. This week, they return to Lancaster Country Club for the second time. The course was designed by William Flynn in 1920. There was bunker renovation in 2022, with nine new ones added and the remaining sand traps either moved or expanded. In addition, the course was opened up visually by removing many of the trees, improving the overall appearance. The layout will play as a par 70 and measures in around 6,629 yards, which will be 140-yards longer than the 2015 edition of the US Women’s Open at Lancaster. The fairways are narrower than most courses, and there are plenty of doglegs. Elevation changes are also important to gage, with 11 approach shots uphill, making the course play longer than the yardage suggests. The greens are also difficult, with many of the greens tilting back-to-front, leaving many downhill putts. The Conestoga River runs throughout the track, coming into play on six holes. This course provides a true test for championship level golf.
Hyo Joo Kim +2800
There are no weaknesses to Kim’s game, and we are getting a decent price at 28-1 odds. She has recorded two top-10s early in the season at the Honda LPGA Thailand and Ford Championship. She picked up a victory in her last start in Korea on the Ladies European Tour. Kim entered the final round with a two-stroke lead and held off the challengers by shooting four-under par on Sunday to claim the win. The only real question is her approach play, as she ranks 117th on Tour after landing in the top-10 in that category the past two seasons. However, her approach play looked good in her victory last time out. Kim tallied two top-6 finishes in the two Open’s in 2023 and is an appealing play to become a two-time major winner this week.
Nasa Hataoka +3600
Hataoka is one of the best players in this field without a major victory. The 25-year-old has won six times on the LPGA Tour and has recorded seven top-25 finishes in 11 starts in 2024. She ranks 12th on Tour in Approach and 13th in Tee-to-Green. She is not shy around major atmospheres, where she had two top-four finishes in majors last season, and six top-five finishes in majors for her career. She tallied a runner-up finish at this event in 2021. She did not participate at this course in 2015 but has two wins at the Arkansas Championship and a top-three in last year’s Evian Championship, which resembles Lancaster’s course. Look for Nasa to contend this weekend for her first-career major.
Jiyai Shin +6600
We are going to take a crack at Shin as our longshot for the weekend. It has been almost 12 years since she won her second-career major at the 2012 Women’s Open. Shin spent the majority of 2023 on the Japanese Tour, where she picked up three victories. What was most impressive is that she was able to contend with the world’s best. She recorded a second-place and third-place finish in three major appearances. She has carried that momentum into the ’24 campaign by not missing a single cut across the variety of tours she has competed in. Shin has a top-five finish at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship at Palos Verdes on the LPGA Tour. Jiyai could be a force in Pennsylvania this weekend.
