The golf world may have all their eyes on Valhalla this weekend for the men’s PGA Championship, but it is a big week for the LPGA with the final event before their second major of the season. Nelly Korda fell short of picking up her sixth straight win last week and ended up finishing seventh. Korda heads into this week as a heavy favorite yet again, followed by Rose Zhang, Atthaya Thitikul, Brooke M. Henderson, amongst others. The Mizuho Americas Open debuted on the LPGA last season at Liberty National Golf Club and returns to the same course this year. Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best action below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets

Liberty National Golf Club was designed by Bob Cupp and Tom Kite and opened in 2006. The course is situated across from the New York Harbour and features amazing views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline. The course is a par 72 and measures in at 6,675 yards for this week’s competition. The track gives off a linksy-feel with generous and gently-rolling fairways. The course is littered with sand traps as there are almost 100 total bunkers throughout the 18-hole trek. The greens are small and bentgrass that are often elevated with run-offs and surrounded by bunkers. Water is also in play on 13 holes that offer a ton of risk/reward opportunities. The course ends with a difficult 18th hole that features an out of bounce area and a well-bunkered fairway. If there is wind from the Atlantic, the final hole provides a nervous finish for those who are in contention.

Brooke M. Henderson +2000

We are going to fade Korda this week and take Brooke M. Henderson with our first selection on our card. I am looking for her to continue her momentum from her final round on Sunday and carry that into this week’s action. She disappointed with a 35th-place finish last week, but that was her first time out in three weeks after taking a small break. She fired a 3-under par on Sunday and looked sharp. She has five top-10s this season and three top-3s. She ranks fourth on the LPGA in total strokes-gained and possesses the skills to compete at any course. With wins already this year at Shoprite LPGA Classic and LA Championship, her game is in fine form for this increased price tag.

Patty Tavatanakit +4000

Patty has had a resurgent season picking up two victories already. Heading into the ’24 campaign, she has had a disappointing few years on the LPGA Tour. She put that behind her and was able to pick up victories in her second and third starts of the year in Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Her driver has been the main reason behind her success as she ranks 11th on the LPGA Tour in driving. She also ranks 7th around-the-greens. Tavatanakit missed the cut here last season, but her game was in awful form. All the signs are pointing to a positive outcome this week in New Jersey for her game.

Ashleigh Buhai +13000

Buhai is my longshot for the week as she performed well here last season and is known to enjoy courses with a linksy-feel. She came out and shot a 64 in the final round of last year’s edition of the Mizuho Americas Open that led to a 7th-place finish. She ranks 21st and 34th in approach and around-the-greens in 2024. She started this year off in solid form making the cut in her first five events and her best finish of ’24 is 13th at the LA Championship. She provides a ton of value at 130-1 odds at a course that she has performed well on in the past.
