Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
The Jian Lake Blue Bay course was designed by Mark Hollinger of the JMP Golf Design group and opened in 2012. The course itself plays at a lengthy 6,712 yards and is a par 72. It features 10 par 4s, four par 3s, and four lengthy par 5s that measure 525-569 yards. The par 5s may be reachable in two shots for a very few long-hitters, but there is risk/reward involved as all the par 5s feature water in play. Large sandy dunes with tall palm trees border many of the fairways. Many of the holes are also doglegged, forcing many players to lay-up off the tee. Paspalum grass makes for some very slow greens. However, overall, the greens are large and open-fronted to encourage chip and run shots. Players who can scramble well will succeed here with plenty of the bunkers near the greens.
Sei Young Kim +1800
This pick is strictly on current form and course history. The past few years have been a little underwhelming to say the least, but she turned it on at the end of last year and picked up right where she left off. Kim recorded two top-five finishes in her last eight starts of the 2023 season and has three top-20 finishes to start the 2024 campaign. The 31-year-old’s ball-striking has never been an issue, and she is looking in fine form again, ranking 16th off-the-tee and 29th in Greens in Regulation. Her putting has been locked in as well, which leads to her ranking 2nd in Par 4 scoring. Her course history is solid as well, winning this tournament in 2015 at 2-under par. She also finished in fourth-place in her last visit to Jian Lake in 2018.
Peiyun Chien +6000
I am looking for Chien to earn her first-career victory on the LPGA Tour this week after she enjoyed her best year on the LPGA last season. Chien’s tally of four top-10 finishes in 2023 was her highest in one season, and that included three finishes in the top-five. Two of them came in her last six starts of the year. She has carried the momentum into the 2024 campaign, winning on the Taiwan LPGA and then following that up with three top-25s in a row. The 33-year-old has played Jian Lake twice in her career, registering finishes of 25th and 45th. She also has some great finishes on paspalum surface courses. She finished fourth and sixth at the LOTTE Championship in 2023 and 2018, which features paspalum greens. She also finished third in the Dana Open and their paspalum greens. There are some encouraging signs for Chien to stand victorious this weekend.
Albane Valenzuela +6600
Even though Valenzuela had a disappointing finish at the HSBC Women’s Championship, I cannot overlook this 66-1 price tag on someone who leads the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green this season. She finished T29 at the HSBC Women’s Championship, due to her short game and putting. The 26-year-old has also tallied a second-place finish at the Honda LPGA Thailand and a T42 at the LPGA Drive on Championship in January. Valenzuela heads into this week ranking 14th in Greens in Regulation Percentage with 78.24%. I will absolutely take a chance on this price tag this weekend.
