Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
Beginning Thursday, Baltusrol’s Lower Course will host the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship for the first time. This will also mark the third overall women’s major played at this course, with the most recent being the 1981 U.S. Women’s Open. The Lower Course underwent major renovations in 2020 at the hands of Gil Hanse. The course now plays at a lengthy 6,621 yards and is a par-71.
Atthaya Thitikul +1200
Atthaya Thitikul will win a major this season! Priced at 12-1 as a cofavorite, she is worth a wager. She is currently ranked second on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained: total, boasting an average of 2.17. She also tallied a fourth-place finish at this event last season. Momentum is also on her side, with three top-10 finishes in her last three events. She finished T6 at the ShopRite Classic, T10 at the Mizuho Americas Open, and T5 at the Cognizant Founders Cup.
Hyo Joo Kim +1200
Kim is one of the cofavorites, and for good reason, as she has been on a tear lately. She has registered three straight top-5 finishes heading into New Jersey. She finished third at the Mizuho Americas Open, second at the ShopRite Classic, and then fifth at the Meijer LPGA Classic. She is the only golfer in this field with three straight top-5 finishes. Kim ranks third in strokes gained: tee-to-green, and her putting has been exceptional during this current run. Most importantly, her track record at majors is second to none. She has a plethora of T7 finishes or better, including a win at the 2014 Evian Championship and a T3 at the 2021 edition of the Women’s PGA Championship. I will gladly risk $100 on Kim to return $1200 this week.
Minjee Lee +3300
I would much rather bet on a good ball striker and hope they get hot with their putter than bet on a good putter and hope they get hot with their ball striking. Her game has been very solid of late and provides the best value on the board at 33-1. She ranks fifth on the LPGA in strokes gained: tee-to-green and has registered a second-place finish, T13, and T13 in her last three events. Lee also brings her A-game to majors. She has a T3 finish or better at all five majors and has two victories, with her latest coming at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Ashleigh Buhai +3300
Another great value bet, as Buhai has registered a 3rd-place finish, T7, a victory, and a T13 in her last four events. She also enters this week’s major ranking 10th in strokes gained: tee-to-green, eighth in total strokes gained, and seventh in scoring average. She is currently ranked 13th in the Rolex Rankings and has six top-10 finishes in the 2023 season. Her play is more deserving than 33-1 odds, and bettors should be salivating at that price.
