2024 PGA Picks: Houston Open Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
The Florida swing is in the rear-view mirror as the PGA Tour heads to Texas and we count down to the first major of the season. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler committed to this event early and will be seeking a hat trick with three consecutive wins. With The Masters coming up, many golfers have opted out of playing, but there is still plenty of talent in the field. Wyndham Clark, Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, Sahith Theegala, amongst others, will try to stop Scheffler this week. Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best options below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
Memorial Park underwent massive renovations in 2019 that increased the length of the course to 7,435 yards, and it plays as a par-70. This track has proven to be a decent challenge to golfers as the winning scores usually fall in between -10 to -16 under par. Iron play and putting have been the most crucial elements to succeed, with a ton of approach shots coming from 175+ yards. Memorial Park has five par 3’s that range from 150 to 235 yards, and the three par 5’s average 596 yards. The greens average 7,000 square feet and play like the Poa Trivialis overseed that we have seen in the past few Florida events. They also took out over half the bunkers when they did renovations in 2019. The layout had 54 bunkers and now only has 21. The closing stretch can be difficult and the 18th hole is a 503-yard par four.
Wyndham Clark +1200
One could argue that Clark has been playing on the same or close to the same level as World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Wyndham has finished second to Scheffler in two straight events, including a putt that lipped out that would have forced a playoff at the Players. He won the AT&T six weeks ago and he looks as motivated as ever. He has the power and putting skill to win in Houston this week. Clark ranks eighth in driving distance and seventh in strokes gained putting for this field. He is a top-30 player around the greens and is worth backing this week at Memorial Park.
Sahith Theegala +1800
Theegala’s putter has been on fire lately, which is why I am giving him a solid chance to put an end to Scheffler’s run at Memorial Park. He has been rolling it wonderfully on the greens and ranks second in the field in terms of strokes gained Putting over the last 30 rounds played. Theegala is my favorite young talent on the PGA Tour and I think he can become a superstar. He finished inside the top 10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and at the Players Championship. He should be heading to Houston with a full tank of confidence in his game.
Will Zalatoris +1800
I have been on the Zalatoris train a few times this season and I see no reason to stop now. He has proven that he is 100% healthy and can be one of the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour. When it comes to tee-to-green play, there have not been many that are better over the past few years. He is elite with his approach game and underrated around the greens. The Texas native loves difficult courses and this layout is one of the tougher non-majors on the season. He is coming off a missed cut at the Players, but before that, he finished fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and second at The Genesis Invitational. I am not ready to hop off the Zalatoris train.
