2023 PGA Picks: Grant Thornton Invitational Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
The PGA and LPGA are teaming up this weekend for the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, Florida. This will be the first co-sanctioned event between the Tour and the LPGA since 1999. Players will tee off Friday through Sunday, and teams will consist of one PGA player and one LPGA player. The first round will be a scramble, the second round will be an alternate shot, and the third round will be a brand-new format. The ‘modified fourball” consists of both players hitting a tee shot, then switching balls for their second shots, and playing that ball until they complete the hole. The lowest of the two scores will count for the team. Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best bets for this upcoming weekend below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
Tiburon Golf Club hosts this year’s Grant Thornton Invitational after hosting the QBE Shootout from 2001 to 2022. The course was designed by Greg Norman in 1998. All competitors will be playing the course as a par-72, with LPGA golfers playing from 6,595 yards, while the PGA Tour golfers play from 7,382 yards. The fairways are extremely generous with widths in landing areas measuring 50 yards.
Korda/Finau +550
Tony Finau is the best golfer in this field hands down and his partner, Nelly Korda, is the fifth ranked Women’s golfer in the world. Finau played well last week at the Hero World Challenge, finishing in a tie for fourth. Korda’s resume speaks volumes for her game. She already has eight LPGA career victories, including a major championship. Korda also has 10 top-10 finishes in 2023, including two over her last three events. She also ranks fifth in scoring average for the season. The wide fairways with minimal rough bodes well for Finau as he can blast his tee shots with zero penalty. This pairing is favored to win for a reason and are clearly the most talented in the field.
Zhang/Theegala +1200
Theegala has had a solid fall season and picked up his first career PGA Tour victory in the process at the Fortinet Championship. He also grabbed a top-20 finish at the Zozo Championship. Zhang has also been playing solid golf in her past three starts, which makes this pair dangerous this weekend. She tied for third at the Maybank Championship, 15th at the Toto Japan Classic, and 13th at the CME Group Tour Championship. Grabbing this pair at 12 to 1 odds is a great play.
Yin/Taylor +1200
This pairing is another value play and one of my favorites for this upcoming weekend in Florida. Yin is the No. 2 ranked Women’s golfer in the world right now. She has two victories under her belt for the 2023 season and boasts nine top-10 finishes on the year. Taylor can not be slept on either as he has proved he can win on the big stage, taking home the RBC Canadian Open title on a crazy putt to end the event. With Yin only trailing Lilia Vu in the rankings, this pairing is an enticing play this weekend.
