2020 Golden Globes Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
Sunday night kicks off another entertainment award season, and of course the first awards show is the Golden Globes. Global sports book MyBookie was one of the first online books to release odds on the 77th Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globes air live on Sunday night, Jan. 5, 2020, and I know I will have lots of action on the Globes betting board! Some of these Golden Globe categories have big favorites, but they still have outstanding entertainment betting value! Here are the current odds on the 77th Golden Globes Awards, and I'll tell you if you should jump on some long shots or take the favorite!
Entertainment awards shows like the Golden Globes are such a great betting option because a sharp handicapper can easily score a big profit, especially this Sunday night because it's not when, but how many upsets will happen! And I can guarantee we will see some shocking upsets Sunday night.
Last year my Golden Globes betting article picked three plus-money winners, and over all I went 8-3 on my predictions! This year is a very tough year in the globes because we added more categories. But with more categories means more opportunity to cash more Golden Globe tickets. There is a reason the sportsbooks offer such low limits on these entertainment betting props as they want to decrease their overall exposure. If you are going to place some cash on the Golden Globes, I highly recommend betting them early because these numbers will move quickly because of low limits.
The 2019 Golden Globe Awards are this Sunday Jan. 5, 2020 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC with Ricky Gervais as the host.
Best Picture
The Irishman -200
Marriage Story +175
1917 +500
Joker +600
The Two Popes +1500
(Last year winner: Bohemian Rhapsody, Odds +1600) Last year the biggest underdog on the betting board won (Bohemian Rhapsody), but I don't see lightning striking twice. Both Marriage Story and 1917 could pull off the upset, but I don't see it happening. When all is said and done, the winner will be the favorite this year in this category. Prediction: The Irishman -200
Best Picture Musical or Comedy
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood -350
Jojo Rabbit +250
Knives Out +600
Rocketman +1000
Dolemite is My Name +1000
(Last year winner: Green Book, Odds +110) This category is difficult because we have some great movies listed. I'm torn between the big favorite Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and huge underdog Rocketman to win Best Picture Musical or Comedy. With Quentin Tarantino's brilliant piece of cinema and showing us probably what happens in Hollywood behind the scenes, I don't see any other movie pulling off the upset. I loved both movies, and don't sleep on Knives Out, but at the end of the night Tarantino brings home another trophy. Prediction: Once Upon A Time in Hollywood -350
Best Actor - Drama
Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) -350
Adam Driver (Marriage Story) +200
Antonio Banderas (Pain & Glory) +600
Christian Bale (Ford V Ferrari) +1400
Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) +1400
(Last year winner: Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody, Odds +250) Kylo Ren Adam Driver goes up against Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime for Best Actor in a Drama. These two actors in my eyes will be the only ones getting this award, and I'm calling for the big upset here. Driver will win for his acting in Marriage Story (sorry Star Wars fans, not for Rise of Skywalker) and he might also bring home an Oscar. Prediction: Adam Driver (Marriage Story) +200
Best Actor - Musical or Comedy
Eddie Murphy (Dolemite Is My Name) -200
Leonardo Dicaprio (Once Upon a Time) +185
Taron Egerton (Rocketman) +400
Daniel Craig (Knives Out) +400
Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit) +2000
(Last year winner: Christian Bale, Vice, Odds -120) You look at this category and your eyes quickly find Leonardo Dicaprio at plus money. However, when you watch Eddie Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name you know why he is the favorite. Keep an eye out for Daniel Craig in Knives Out at +400, and if the moneyline gets around +550 or higher I might lay some small change on him. Not going to lie, I'm rooting for Murphy to win this award because his acceptance speech could be the best moment of the night. Prediction: Eddie Murphy (Dolemite Is My Name) -200
Best Actress - Drama
Renee Zellweger (Judy) -300
Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story) +170
Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) +1000
Charlize Theron (Bombshell) +1000
Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) +1500
(Last year winner: Glenn Close, The Wife, Odds +220) Last year Lady Gaga 'A Star Is Born' was the big favorite, and Glenn Close walked away with the award, but this year I see the favorite not going down. Renee Zellweger was outstanding in 'Judy' and deserves to be the favorite, but I'm shocked that Charlize Theron 'Bombshell' is +1000. Theron at +1000 could be tough to pass up! Prediction: Renee Zellweger (Judy) -300
Best Actress - Musical or Comedy
Awkwafina (The Farewell) -600
Ana De Armas (Knives Out) +400
Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) +700
Emma Thompson (Late Night) +1000
Cate Blanchett (Where'd You Go Bernadette) +1500
(Last year winner: Olivia Colman, The Favourite, Odds -180) Easy winner here! Prediction: Awkwafina (The Farewell) -600
Best Director
Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) -120
Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) +115
Quentin Tarantino (Once Uon A Time in Hollywood) +350
Sam Mendes (1917) +700
Todd Phillips (Joker) +1200
(Last year winner: Alfonso Cuaron, Roma, Odds -250) The Irishman is the Drama frontrunner this year, and its' no surprise that Martin Scorsese is the small favorite here. Getting Tarantino at +350 and Todd Phillips at +1200 is good value, but I see Scorsese's name being announced. Prediction: Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) -120
Best Actress - Comedy Series
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) -600
Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) +300
Kirsten Dunst (Becoming a God in Central Florida) +600
Matasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) +1000
Christina Applegate (Dead to Me) +2000
Almost didn't post odds on this category. However, some big names are on this list, and if the big favorite goes down look for Rachel Brosnahan or Kirsten Dunst to pull off the upset! Do I see that happening? No! Prediction: Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) -600
Best Actress - Drama Series
Olivia Colman (The Crown) -115
Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) +100
Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) +550
Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) +850
Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show) +1000
Best Actress for Drama is going to be fun to watch because all five ladies can walk away with the award. Hurry up and grab Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show because over the weekend she will be the small favorite in this category. Sandra Oh in Killing Eve won last year in this category, so keep an eye out for Jodie Comer because if her odds continue to climb I might bite. Prediction: Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) +100
Best Supporting Actor in Any Motion Picture
Brad Pitt (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood) -200
Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) +400
Al Pacino (The Irishman) +500
Joe Pesci (The Irishman) +750
Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes) +1500
(Last year winner: Mahershala Ali, Green Book, Odds -150) A two man race in this category has Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood going up against Mr. Rogers aka Tom Hanks A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Both movies were outstanding, and I'm calling for another Golden Globe upset as Hanks beat Pitt. I also highly recommend watching the HBO documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor. Prediction: Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) +400
Best Supporting Actress in Any Motion Picture
Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers) -180
Laura Dern (Marriage Story) +200
Margot Robbie (Bombshell) +1000
Annette Bening (The Report) +1500
Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell) +2000
(Last year winner: Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk, Odds -170) This category is Jennifer Lopez's to lose, and I don't see her losing. Laura Dern is the only other name I can see here announced, but the favorite in this category usually dominates. Prediction: Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers) -180
Best Television Series - Drama
The Crown -120
Succession +100
The Morning Show +400
Big Little Lies +850
Killing Eve +1500
(Last year winner: The Americans, Odds +320) Last year we saw an upset in this category, and I'm calling for another upset. Most media experts are going with either The Crown or Succession, but give me the Apple TV mega hit. Prediction: The Morning Show +400
Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy
Fleabag -500
The Politician +350
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel +450
Barry +1300
The Kominsky Method +2000
(No Odds last year) Really good shows in this category, but no one is beating Fleabag. Prediction: Fleabag -500
Best Television - Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Chernobyl (HBO) -200
Unbelievable (Netflix) +175
Fosse/Verdon (FX) +1000
The Loudest Voice (Showtime) +1500
Catch-22 (Hulu) +2000
(No Odds last year) Not shocked here that Chernobyl is the big favorite, and by Sunday morning wouldn't shock me to see -300 or higher on this HBO hit. Really tempted to lay some change down on Fosse/Verdon +1000 as FX shows have pulled off upsets in the past. Prediction: Chernobyl (HBO) -200
Best Animated Motion Picture
Toy Story 4 -350
Frozen II +550
Missing Link +650
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World +1000
The Lion King +2000
(Last year winner: Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Odds +250) Last Spider-Man webbed an upset, but this year I don't see the underdog barking. Toy Story 4 will beat out Frozen II, and the other movies have no shot. Prediction: Toy Story 4 -350
Best Foreign Language Motion Picture
Parasite (South Korea) -800
The Farewell (USA) +650
Pain And Glory (Spain) +1000
Les Miserables (France) +1500
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (France) +2000
(No Odds last year) I hate to say it, but the 'Lock' of the night will be
the biggest favorite of the night. Prediction: Parasite (South Korea) -800
