2024 Conn Smythe Trophy Odds and Predictions
The 2024 Stanley Cup will be awarded to the NHL’s best team over the next few weeks, but there will also be an award to the NHL’s best player in the playoffs. The Conn Smythe Trophy will be presented to the NHL Playoff MVP prior to the Stanley Cup being awarded. As we inch closer to the Stanley Cup Final, which starts on Saturday night, it is time to start examining some of the individuals who could be up for the award. Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is the heavy favorite, but there is one teammate that could have tremendous value. Could Florida’s goaltender steal the show? It is important to note that you will want to select someone from the team you think is going to win the Stanley Cup. Since 1966, only five players have won the award from the losing team. Doc’s Sports will break down two of the best bets from each squad below.
Doc’s Sports offers NHL expert picks for every game on our hockey predictions page.
Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers +190
The Oilers best player is the heavy favorite for a reason to claim the coveted Conn Smythe Trophy. He finished the regular season with 132 total points, that included 100 assists. In the Western Conference Finals, McDavid recorded 10 points in the six-game series, including the exhilarating goal to open Game 6. Edmonton was able to wrap up a 2-1 win to take the series and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. He has 31 total points in 18 postseason appearances so far. The Oilers are in the Finals for the first time since 2006, and if they win, there is no doubt the trophy will land in McDavid’s hands.
Aleksander Barkov, Florida Panthers +400
Barkov is the most important player on the Panthers and he will have the tall task of defending Connor McDavid. He is one of, if not the best two-way forwards in the entire league and has done an amazing job through the playoffs at shutting down the opposition’s best players. He went head-to-head with Nikita Kucherov in the first round, David Pastrnak in the second round, and Mika Zibanejad in the Eastern Conference Finals. The job gets harder in the Stanley Cup against the Oilers best player, but if anyone is up for the challenge, it is Barkov. Even with his stellar defense, he has been producing at a point-per—game clip offensively. He has six goals and 11 assists in 17 games this postseason. If he can slow McDavid down while also producing offensively, it is his award.
Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida Panthers +450
Through three rounds of the NHL Playoffs, Bobrovsky has outshined his fellow counterparts in between the posts. The 35-year-old goaltender has beaten Vasilevskiy, Swayman, and Shesterkin to get the Florida Panthers back to the Stanley Cup Finals. In the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Rangers, Bobrovsky finished the series with a .918 Save Percentage. Besides the Game 3 loss to the Rangers, he has not allowed more than two goals in eight out of his last nine playoff games. Despite the opportunity to single handedly shut down the opposition, a goaltender has only won the Conn Smythe Trophy once in the last decade.
Zach Hyman, Edmonton Oilers +10000
Connor McDavid is the most attractive pick when it comes to an Oiler winning the Conn Smythe trophy, but Hyman has tremendous value for how hot he has been during this playoff run. Hyman has been finding the back of the net better than anyone during this postseason with 14 goals. He is producing at a point-per-game rate with his 14 goals and four assists through 18 playoff games. Jari Kurri and Reggie Leach are tied for the most goals in a single playoff run in NHL history with 19. If Hyman can tie or even break that record, it will be extremely difficult to not hand him the hardware. The Panthers are a great defensive team, if Hyman can score consistently and lead the Oilers to a Stanley Cup, there is tremendous value in selecting him as the Conn Smythe winner.
