Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
The Walton Heath Golf Club hosts for the first time, with a mix of both the Old and New Courses. This should be a great test this week for players with 16 of the Old Course holes in action, along with the 12th and 13th from the New Course as well. Walton Health was founded in 1903 and has played host to the European Open, the 1981 Ryder Cup and the 2011 Senior Open. It is a classic heathland course with tree-lined fairways. It is a par 72 and plays close to 6,780 yards.
Celine Boutier +1400
What a run Boutier has been on! Two weeks ago she became the first Frenchwoman to win the Evian Championship, hoisting her first major title. She then went up to Dundonald Links and made it back-to-back wins at the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open. Obviously, the odds of her going for three straight victories is low but it has been done before. Boutier should definitely be on your radar looking for two major victories in three weeks.
Leona Maguire +1900
Could we see another first-time major winner at Walton Heath this week? Ireland’s Leona Maguire would fit into that category. She has had a spectacular 2023, missing only one cut on the LPGA Tour. She became the first Irish player to win on Tour last year and picked up her second career win two months ago. Maguire shot 21-under-par at the Meijer LPGA Classic to pick up her June win, a run of three straight top-10s. She also finished inside the top-five at the AIG Women’s Open at Muirfield last year. Look for Maguire to contend this week and possibly be the first Irishwoman to win a major.
Lydia Ko +5500
Ko still holds the record for being the youngest World No. 1 in professional golf, the youngest major champion, and the woman to win on the LPGA Tour. Ko is a two-time major champion, winning the Evian Championship and the ANA Inspiration in a seven-month span back in 2015 and 2016. Since then, she has 11 top-10 finishes in majors, including two runner-up finishes. Last year Ko finished T7 at Muirfield in this event. She has yet to finish in the top-30 in a major this year, but she did pick up a victory at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International in February. Look out for Lydia to be at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.
