3M Open Golf Predictions with Odds and Expert Betting Picks
With the four majors completed for 2021, the players' attention is drawn to acquiring enough points to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
This week is a little tricky for those who played in the British Open because you never know what their motivation might be the following week. If a golfer needs the points this week or over the next few weeks, you would think they would be mentally sharp. However, just like a team in another sport that “has to win” to reach the playoffs, but comes up flat for reasons unknown, the same can happen to a top-flight golf professional.

A Look at the Field
Here is a look at the Top 12 and more with the lowest golf odds to win it all at online sportsbooks.
Dustin Johnson +700 - Louis Oosthuizen +1400 - Tony Finau +1400 - Patrick Reed +2000
Brian Harman +2800 - Cameron Tringale +2800 - Matthew Wolff +2800
Robert MacIntyre +2800 - Sergio Garcia +3300 - Bubba Watson +4000 - Cam Davis +4000
Emiliano Grillo +4000 - Hank Lebioda +4000 - Keegan Bradley +4000 - Rickie Fowler +4000
D.J. is the overwhelming favorite for this tournament after finishing T8 at the British Open. He would have finished higher except for a third-round 73. Johnson has four straight Top 25’s without being consistent with irons or the putter. However, his driver is dialed in.
Oosthuizen has four Top 8’s in his last six stateside starts (plus two other Top 26 finishes), but never fired last Sunday. The question on him is this week will he be flat after seeing another possibly win dry up?
Finau’s Top 15 last week offers hope, but he’s rarely been in contention this season, especially of late. Reed has played best without expectations. He’s failed miserably when thought to be a contender.
In the next group of players with +2800 odds, Tringale and Wolff appear to offer the most hope. Tringale has missed the cut or been a Top 30 finisher in 2021. He’s second in shots gained putting on bentgrass, which is featured this week and was T3 here last year. Wolff’s been shaky all year, but he won here in 2019 and was T12 last year. His confidence should be high this week.
Just when it looks ripe to write off Watson, he does something to grab your attention. His iron play has him gaining strokes and he’s off two straight Top 20’s. He can go low on a track like this.
Davis won the Rocket Mortgage in Detroit recently and excels on bentgrass. His length makes him intriguing.
Fowler shot 65 on Sunday at The Open, which came after a 75 on Saturday. We’ve seen momentum propel players the following week. Will that happen for Fowler?
Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
TPC Twin Cities returns to host this event for the third straight season. This par 71 stretches out to 7,431 yards and was an Arnold Palmer design that opened at the turn of this century and was renovated three years ago.
Seeing this tourney is being played in the state with 10,000 lakes (at least that’s what the Minnesota license plates say), there is water on 15 of the 18 holes. That’s the most noticeable aspect along with three Par 5’s that measure 590 or more yards and three Par 4’s at 460 or better.
On this course, you have to be long and straight. You also cannot be lacking in confidence because the presentation can play tricks with the golfer’s mind, with the hazards seeming intimidating.
Along with length, those that can cut or fade the ball are going to be more apt to place the ball where they want and get closer to the pins.
The bentgrass greens will reward those who are more skilled at putting and understand the right firmness on their putts.
Golf Picks: Who to Consider This Week
If you are looking for a Top 5 wager for golf picks, Dustin Johnson and Oosthuizen appear the best choices.
If you want more adventure, Bubba Watson has appeal to finish in the first five along with betting action on him for a Top 10 and Top 20.
Emiliano Grillo is not a great bentgrass putter, but he can put together a string of good holes and is 23rd in scoring and 5th in greens in regulation, making him at least a top 20 contender.
If looking for a longer shot, Jhonattan Vegas is playing terrific golf, landing in the top 11 three times in the last five outings and can go low on easier courses for those that play at this level.
