Fourth and Inches

The roll continues as our selections service picked up another +16 units this past weekend. For the season we are now plus 60 units, showing a +$5,270.00 profit based on a $100 per unit play. In past years, September has always been our least profitable month during the football season, which makes this year most gratifying thus far. Traditionally, October and November have been our big hits. At this pace, we have a good chance to end up between 150-200 units plus for the season. We could be one of the hottest services in the country and I have the utmost confidence that this will continue.
As good as the weekend was, I was however very disappointed in our Top College Selection, that being Notre Dame. The Irish just gave up too many big plays. Purdue has too much talent to spot that many points and expect any team to have a chance of a come back. No question, the play that hurt us the most was the fumble on the goal line. As solid as Purdue is, I believe they will have a few stumbling blocks ahead, because of their defense.
One of the hottest ball clubs in the country is Arizona State. We tagged them twice when they played Iowa and Oregon State, the latter being our College Game of the Year. I wanted so badly to take them against Oregon, knowing it was the only side to take, but after riding them two weeks in a row, I decided to pass. The Sun Devils QB Walker may be one of the best in the country. Their big win over Oregon certainly was no surprise. Keep an eye on this team as they have this week off and have Southern Cal up next.
Speaking of Southern Cal, what a showdown that will be between the Trojans and California. The line opened at 10, Trojans, but has now dropped to 7 1/2. I think Southern Cal has to get the nod here. No question, this California team is good, but hasn't faced this caliber team, especially on the road.
Another big rivalry this week will be the Kansas-Kansas State match up. We went against the Wildcats last week and got the money. I really believe this team is overrated. No question, Bill Snyder has done an excellent job there, however it has to be a rebuilding year for Kansas State. At first glance, I like Kansas in a revenge scenario, however I just received a call informing me that the Jayhawks received numerous injuries in their encounter with Nebraska. I'll know more as the week progresses.
Looking at this week's college schedule, I absolutely love it. My choices are all made. I just have to make a few calls and do some fine-tuning. Six of the games that I am looking at are underdogs. I really believe four of these clubs have an outstanding chance to win straight up. It's always nice to get points with good teams.
One of the big games this week will be the Texas-Oklahoma matchup. No question the Sooners have played the toughest schedule so far. Will the Longhorns be up for it? They should be, after getting beat 65-13 last year. All that oil money in that area, one has to believe that some of those old boys will light up a cigar and do a litle wagering on the outcome. My choice would be to take the points. The Longhorns have to come back after that beating they took last year. Of course I wouldn't have as much confidence as some of those Texans will!
The Big Ten has some excellent match ups this week, no question the best so far this year. A big showdown will be in Ann Arbor where Michigan will host Minnesota. This will be the test for the Gophers. Minnesota had a big lead last year, only to give up 21-points to Michigan in the fourth quarter. It was a devastating loss for the Gophers. No question this team has the talent!. One has to wonder however how the young sophomore quarterback will handle the "Big House"!
Another team that will be put to the test this week is Wisconsin. The Badgers are 5-0 for the season. Keep in mind that four of these victories came at home. Will the Buckeyes be angry after the Northwestern game? Neither team has an offense to brag about. In fact, the team that scores first may win the game. The Badgers did get a big lift last week as running back Anthony Davis returned against Illinois. Believe me, this kid can motor, as he gained over 200 yards in his return. Do I like the game? You bet I do, for we will be all over it (and I will personally be on that one too).
I haven't said anything about any stocks this year. The last couple of years I've really liked Navarre and Akami technologies. Both companies are doing really well. For those of you who bought a few shares, you are now sitting on an excellent profit. I'm still hanging on to these beauties and advise you to do the same. A company that I like now is Cash Systems Inc. Symbol (CKN). As of this writing the stock is selling at $7.15. The company is involved in the gambling industry and is one of the fastest growing companies around. You may want to call your broker about this one.
As I often mention in this column, I always like to look ahead a week in advance and be prepared. The Big Ten schedule next week, much like this week, is very inviting. I think one game has a lot of merit. There's an outstanding chance the Big Ten Game of the Year may go. If you need information on that game, check our Daily Med section every day.
The regular baseball season is over and the American League and National League championship series and the World Series are next. I personally do not follow baseball, however, I have someone in the office who does an outstanding job of following and handicapping the sport, that being Vince. He informed me this morning that he is really high on one team to go the distance. If you want information about this team, or selections throughout the series, give Vince a call. He will make you money!
Our first 6-unit game goes this Saturday. This selection will be in the Big Ten, and I will personally be all over it. I seriously thought about using this game as my Big Ten Game of the Year, however I zeroed in on a game on October 16th and even though I'm extremely strong on the game this week, I still prefer to use the Oct 16th game as the Big Ten Game of the Year. Big Ten Game of the Year... 6-unit game... the most important thing is to win!
That's it for this week!
