2023 College Football Regular Season Win Totals Best Bets
Believe it or not, we are only two months away from the start of the 2023 college football season. Last month the sportsbooks trickled out the over and under win totals for the 130 teams in the FBS. The win-total markets only count the 12 regular-season games played by each team. Conference championships and bowl games do not factor into the over/under totals. There are a handful of numbers that jumped out on the list, so let us dive in to see if we can find some value for some of these squads.
Doc’s Sports offers college football expert picks for every game on our college football predictions page.
Clemson Tigers regular season win total
Over 10 (+105)
Under 10 (-125)
I will take plus value at double-digit wins with the possibility of a push and getting my money back. The Tigers have won at least 10 regular season games in 10 of the last 12 seasons. That includes last year, which was a down season by Dabo Swinney’s standards. I am expecting some significant improvements offensively with the addition of new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley. The two toughest teams on Clemson’s schedule are Florida State and Notre Dame. Both contests are at home. Clemson could very well be favored in all 12 games this upcoming season, and that is good enough for me to hammer the over 10-win total.
Pick: Over 10 wins
Florida State Seminoles regular season win total
Over 10 (-105)
Under 10 (-115)
The Seminoles have not won 10 regular season games since 2015 but are coming off a solid 2022 campaign. Florida State went 9-3 in the regular season and then beat an average Oklahoma team in the bowl game to reach 10 wins. With LSU, Clemson, and a few challenging road games on the schedule, FSU would have to go 11-1 for you to lose money on the under. I just do not see that happening.
Pick: Under 10 wins
Penn State Nittany Lions regular season win total
Over 9.5 (-135)
Under 9.5 (+115)
James Franklin enters his ninth season in Happy Valley, and there is a ton of pressure to perform up to standards. PSU is coming off an 11-win season that saw them defeat the Utah Utes in the Rose Bowl. The Sean Clifford era is over -- and enter Drew Allar, who performed well last year when given the opportunity to play under center. Abdul Carter will be the anchor on the defense after a stellar freshman season. If Penn State can split with Ohio State and Michigan, this team will hit 10 wins.
Pick: Over 9.5 wins
Alabama Crimson Tide regular season win total
Over 10.5 (+150)
Under 10.5 (-175)
The under is easy in my opinion for a heavy wager that will return a profit. Looking at their 2023 schedule, Bama can only afford one loss to hit the over. This looks extremely unlikely considering they play five preseason top-25 teams. They get No. 5 Texas, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 12 Tennessee, and No. 4 LSU at home. The Tide also travels to No. 19 Texas A&M. Saban is returning the least amount of production in his entire tenure as coach and will have an inexperienced quarterback. Hammer the under.
Pick: Under 10.5 wins
LSU regular season win total
Over 9.5 (-115)
Under 9.5 (-105)
The LSU Tigers are a 10-win team in my book. The surprise defending SEC West champs return the bulk of their production on both sides of the football. Jayden Daniels, LSU’s starting quarterback and leading rusher, is back, along with the entire offensive line. There are multiple talented running backs, and LSU’s front seven is led by Maason Smith and Harold Perkins. Add in a pair of intriguing transfers, including 5-star corner Denver Harris and former Alabama receiver Aaron Anderson, this team has the make of double-digit victories.
Pick: Over 9.5 wins
Colorado regular season win total
Over 3.5 (+130)
Under 3.5 (-150)
I must admit this is more of a fun wager for me and buying into the Deion Sanders hype. Colorado was one of the worst teams in all of football last year, and they are receiving the most bets from sportsbooks so far. Former “Prime Time” now deemed Coach “Prime” has been pushing the right buttons. He has been winning recruiting battles and brought over a very talented transfer portal class. The Buffaloes play a hard schedule the first month of the season that includes TCU, Nebraska, USC, and Oregon. With a win total so low, and juiced at +130, the Buffaloes could rise to the occasion and get four wins for plus money.
Pick: Over 3.5 wins
