Will Undefeated Hoops Teams Stay that Way?
by Trevor Whenham - 12/13/2006
Ever since the Indiana Hoosiers pulled it off in 1976, college basketball fans have longed for another team to complete an undefeated season with a national championship. Like the Triple Crown, the Grand Slam and all the other revered accomplishments in sports, though, it has remained elusive. Indiana State came closest in 1979, but Magic Johnson and his Spartans got the best of Larry Bird et al in the finals. UNLV looked like a lock in 1991, but Christian Laettner and his Blue Devils pulled off the huge upset in the semi-finals.

College Basketball Totals can be Profitable
by Trevor Whenham - 12/06/2006
When it comes to handicapping college basketball, or most sports for that matter, most people seem to put the majority of their time and effort into deciding who is going to win the game, and which side will cover. That's obviously a sound approach, but when it comes to college hoops you are ignoring an area of huge potential profit. With so many games on the schedule every day, and with so many teams to keep track of, it is very common to find totals for games that are completely out of whack. This is probably most true earlier in the season, but the opportunities to profit from the over/under last throughout the year.

Colonial Athletic Association: A Hoops Primer
by Trevor Whenham - 11/24/2006
There's a lot of money to be made during the college basketball season by paying close attention to the mid-major conferences throughout the year. If you know all about teams that the public knows nothing about then you can often find opportunities for incredible value. When it comes to mid-major conferences, none has got more press in the last year than the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA is home to George Mason, the Cinderella sweethearts of the Final Four. It is also the home of Old Dominion, the team that stunned the much hyped Georgetown Hoyas this week. Here's an introduction to the conference:

Early Season CBB Provides Huge Lines
by Trevor Whenham - 11/17/2006
This season, and the last few weeks in particular, have been decidedly one-sided when it comes to betting outcomes. The underdogs covered 21-of-30 games played over the course of the last two weeks. You can handicap all you want, but chances are pretty good that a trend that strong is going to wreak havoc on you.

2006 College Basketball Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 11/09/2006
College basketball season starts next week, so it's time to pick a winner for the tournament. These picks will almost certainly change as some programs underachieve, and others play way over their heads. Still, it wouldn't be any fun if you didn't give it a try. Here, then, is a look at four teams. If I had to bet now I would say that the National Champion will be one of them. Without further ado, here are my 2006 college basketball predictions.

Not Too Early To Think About College Hoops
by Trevor Whenham - 09/08/2006
Sure, college football has only just begun, but March is just six months away, and odds on the next March Madness tournament winner are already set at Pinnacle Sportsbook, so it is never too early to take a look at who may replace Florida as national champions (or if the Gators can repeat).

Early NBA Draft Entries Hurt Their College Programs
by Robert Ferringo - 05/02/2006
I understand that we're a month removed from the Final Four. I know that with the NBA and NHL playoffs, Triple Crown races, NFL Draft, golf, NASCAR, and the start of baseball that there may not be much of a gaming market for college hoops. However, for those of you that don't mind making long-term investments with the possibility of large returns, it's never too early to get a jump on who's going to win next year's championship.

Duke/UNC Preview: Bodog Taking Heavy Action On The Devils
by Joseph Mattern - 02/07/2006
Online sportsbook Bodog opened Duke as a five-point favorite and Blue Devil money has been pouring in all day long. At press time, the line had moved to 5 ½ and that number could get even bigger up until game time. Carolina bettors might want to wait until just before tip off in order to get the best number.

Friday Night Poison Ivy - Free Ivy League Picks
by Chris, the Impaler - 02/03/2006
One time when I was a kid growing up in Westchester County, I got poison ivy on both hands and my arms when I reached into the underbrush to find a poorly thrown baseball (my brother was a lefty). I didn’t realize it and scratched myself in places young men are wont to do. The next morning I was begging my grandmother for her beloved calamine lotion. Right now, no thanks to Columbia and two bad weekends in a row, I feel like I have poison ivy all over my balls once again.

Scouting Mid-Majors Now Can Pay Huge Dividends In March
by Robert Ferringo - 01/24/2006
Yes, these are actual quotes from the 2005 NCAA Tournament. In that tournament - as in all the others before it - there were several colossal upsets that shredded brackets and retirement funds throughout the country. Naturally, everyone from television bobbleheads to that college hoops "expert" in your office claimed that Vermont beating Syracuse and Bucknell topping Kansas was "unbelievable".

Saturday Poison Ivy: Free Ivy League Picks
by Chris, the Impaler - 01/20/2006
It’s exam time in the Ivy league which is no excuse not to play basketball if you live in Chapel Hill , but in the Ancient Eight that means Study Hall. As such study hall has replaced the gym this week and only two games are scheduled in the Ivy League as Yale and Brown close out their season series and Columbia and Cornell kick off theirs. Campus police at Brown are now allowed to carry firearms but I expect that it will be the Bulldogs shooting holes in the Bears defense while Columbia will try to find a way to end their two consecutive game conference slide in Ithaca.

Big East Basketball - The 'Beast' May Set March Madness Record In 2006
by Robert Ferringo - 01/13/2006
So I'm flipping around Saturday afternoon and I come across the Cincinnati/Marquette men's college basketball game. Sweet. I watch for a few minutes and then am momentarily confused by the Big East logos all over the court. Now, it's not that I didn't know these guys had moved from Conference USA to the Big East, it's just that I didn't really believe it until I saw it with my own eyes.

Poison Ivy: Battle for the Ocean State
by Chris, the Impaler - 11/25/2005
While most of the American wagerarti spend the day after Thanksgiving scratching their heads wondering why they laid 28.5 points at the Home of the 12th Man; we turn our attentions to the Ocean State and another storied rivalry, the Brown Bears versus the Rhode Island Rams men's Varsity basketball. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Ryan Center and should feature solid defense, a bunch of missed three-pointers and good free throw shooting.

NCAA Hoops: Ivy League Overview
by Chris, the Impaler - 11/18/2005
Put down the bloody Mary, give Muffy a pat on her tweed-clad ass, and break out the cashmere cardigan because it's time for college hoops, preppy style; and just because it is getting cold in the northeast it doesn't mean you have to wear argyle socks with your penny loafers when betting the ivy covered hizz'ouse at your favorite offshore sports investment parlor.
