Winky Wright (49-3, 25 KOs) is generally regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Winky possesses the best jab in boxing as well as a turtle defense that is second to none. Winky has worked his way to the top without any exciting performances or devastating knockouts. Winky is like an average Joe who worked hard to get where he is and now has no idea what to do.

Winky won two fights over Shane Mosley and shutout Felix Trinidad to move to the top of the rankings but now as a reward he will take on none other than Sam Soliman (31-7, 12 KOs) on Dec. 10.
A match-up between Wright and Soliman could give new definition to the name Stinky Wright. Neither Winky or Soliman have the kind power to hurt the other and they are also more than content to box at an almost three-toed sloth pace. Both also have never been knocked out so a 12 round decision seems a virtual guarantee. This fight could do more damage to Winky's career than he is aware of, win or lose. HBO also will suffer from offering another potential tap dance of the year.
Winky Wright had a chance to fight the best fighter in the world; Floyd Mayweather Jr. Winky decided to play hardball and was left with the lowest profile fight available. His negotiations with Ike Quartey also broke down when Winky was blinded by greed.
Wright does not seem to understand that no one is salivating over seeing him paw away at a European fighter with seven losses. If Winky continues to fight contenders with no chance of winning or making it exciting he will be shot before he gets another payday. Winky is already 34 years old and isn't getting any younger nor is he adding any new techniques. Winky should have been negotiating with Daniel Santos, Roman Karmazin or Felix Sturm, even Alejandro Garcia and Kassim Ouma would do.
I really have no explanation for why Winky would pick Sam Soliman. There is absolutely nothing to like about this fight. HBO should be ashamed to present this trash, it hardly would make a good Fox Sports broadcast. If you are looking for Winky to continue his climb in boxing this match-up Doc's has come up with a great value pick and we will be giving the pick away, at least making one positive of this atrocity.
