James Toney Brings His Big Mouth to Reno by Trever "Deucedrop" Malagon - 09/30/2005 James Toney is coming back into the ring Oct. 1 against Dominick Guinn. This is going to be Toney's first fight back since having his last fight changed to a "No Contest", after testing positive for steroids. I believe Toney saying that he didn't take them purposely, but for rehabilitation of his torn bicep. He could beat John Ruiz with a hangover. He doesn't need steroids to fight; he's been doing it successfully for seventeen years. He has a solid record with many accomplishments on it, a resume of world class opposition, and a record of 68-4-2 (43 KO's). This heavyweight battle is the main event of the night, and it could give Toney his chance to shine. A lot of boxing insiders think that Guinn is going to upset Toney. I say they're crazy, maybe 2 years ago, but after his last few fights, Guinn is washed up before he even got started. Seriously, Guinn was moving along in the right direction, and then got lazy. Guinn's laziness caussed him to be confused and out worked by Monte Barrett. Then Guinn was battered by Serguei Lyakhovich by dull unanimous decision. Guinn's last fight was even worse. Guinn "held" Friday Ahunanya to an, " I would rather be doing my taxes kind of draw". I think that the camera men actually lost focus at one point; and started filming the guys passing out flyers on the Las Vegas strip. Guinn has a solid right hand, and does sport a record of 25-2-1(18 KO's). He has some pop in his punches, but is it enough to beat James Toney? I could see Toney taking Guinn out to the deep end and drowning him. Toney's experience has way more depth and he has better ring generalship. Also to boot, Guinn isn't that aggressive. He has size and reach on Toney. Will he use it to his advantage? My guess is that he will part of the time, just enough to survive. Who knows though, he might shock the world and dominate Toney. Whoever wins is sure to be prominent in the heavyweight picture.
