ESPN'S Wednesday Night Fights from the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Lemoore, CA
Chris Arreola made quick work of Manuel Ossie at 1:33 of the 1st round. Arreola quickly closed the gap on his foe, landing some good body shots. A solid right off the jaw and another sharp right hand off the temple put the 37-year-old on the canvas for the count of 10. At 37 years old and having fought at light heavy just five fights ago, Ossie has no business fighting a 250 lb heavyweight or any heavy for that matter.
Arreola moves to 15-0 with 13 KOs. In the main event unbeaten 6-1 southpaw prospect Paul Williams (28-0, 20 KOs) took on and took out Sergio Rios (17-2, 15 KOs). Williams came out strong in the first round, throwing 3 and 4 punch combinations to the head and body forcing Rios to retreat and easily winning the round. An uppercut at 2:24 of the second round ended the night for Rios, who seemed outclassed. Fights like this do nothing for Williams as he is ready for a top ten welterweight.
ESPN'S Friday Night Fights from Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, CA
22 yr. old prospect Andrea Beltro (11-0, 9 KOs) made quick work of late sub Horatio Garcia (14-7, 9 KOs). The stocky Beltro used his jab, bodywork and better overall skills to overwhelm stop his overmatched foe. Garcia quit on his stool before the start of the fourth round.
In the main event a crossroads battle took place between Great Britain's 2000 Olympic Gold medal winner Audley Harrison (19-2, 14 KOs)and American Dominick Guinn (25-3-1, 18 KOs). Harrison proved his best days were as an amateur as he lost on all three cards unanimously to the fringe contender Guinn. This was a snoozer with neither fighter fighting as if their careers were on the line. The fight followed a similar pattern. Harrison would neglect his long jab and allowing his shorter smaller foe to get inside. Problem was Guinn didn't do much when he did get in. He would throw a nice right hook to the body and would follow that with a clinch. Let's just say the body was there all night and he chose to hold. In the 12th round both fighters came out and landed some good exchanges but it was too little to late in another dull heavyweight fight.
