The Corrales and Castillo Rematch by Trever "Deucedrop" Malagon - 10/02/2005 Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo get it on again this Oct. 8, in Las Vegas. I, much like millions of other boxing fans can't wait. Is this fight going to be as exciting as their last one? Is it going to have the same kind of drama? I sure think so; I think that these two guys are going to fight the exact same. In all actual reality, neither fighter can fight any other way. These two warriors gave it their all in the last fight, a true full blown assault against one another. The fight was filled with give and take action until someone had to break. I had the first fight a draw until Corrales was knocked down twice and had a point taken away for spitting out his mouthpiece twice. As things turned out, there was no need for a scorecard, Corrales rallied back in the next exchange of the fight to stop Castillo. A big left hook and some big right hands put Castillo against the ropes and left him defenseless. The onslaught of punches left the referee no choice but to stop the fight. Corrales' stunning win was one of the best come from behind victories in the history of all sports. Diego Corrales will be defending both the WBC and the WBO belts in this fight. He lifted the WBC belt from Castillo in their last bout. He sports a record of 40-2-0 with 33 KOs, having kayoed the majority of his opponents and his last opponent, Castillo. Corrales' stoppage of Castillo makes him the favorite in this fight. I think that if he were to stay on the outside and box, he could win the fight a hell of a lot easier this time around. However, Diego has no intention of Roy Jones ballet dancing. Corrales has told the press repeatedly that he intends to fight the same way. He said that the only way to fight Castillo is to start fast and stay on him. Upon hearing that, I'm all ready for this one, because I know that they're going to go all out. I would bet that they start off right where they left off from the last fight, maybe feeling each other out for the first minute and then boom! Fireworks! Corrales had a high punch output in their first fight, not wasting a moment from the sound of first bell. He met Castillo in the center of the ring and basically the fight stood right there. As if they were in a phone booth. Diego's power is something that Castillo might have a little more respect for this time around. I'm not saying that he didn't respect his power last time, just saying that he is more likely to be leery and even obviously cautious of it this time. The rematch is going to be an uphill battle for Jose Luis Castillo. The Mexican veteran was on the wrong end of a brutal fight and many insiders are curious to see how much fight Castillo has left in him. I'm sure he has tons of fight left in him, more than most people give him credit for. Castillo is a Mexican fighter and none are any more rugged when it comes to boxing than. Castillo has been around for a long time and has always been a solid champion and contender. He sparred with Julio Caesar Chavez as a young boxer, so you know he picked up some good little tricks of the trade even back then. That's one hell of a teacher right there to learn from. Castillo's record is a lengthy one, a record of 52-7-1 (46 KO) and chock full of champions, ex-champs, top contenders and some tough journeymen. Castillo is as well schooled of a fighter as anyone currently in boxing. He has a brutally patient way about him in the ring. He seems to take most of his opponents into the later rounds before drowning them. Castillo keeps a steady body attack and great work on the inside to slow down his opponents. Whenever there is a clinch, Castillo is always hard at work. He doesn't let many opportunities get by him when it comes to getting in a shot, just like most fighters should. If a lot of fighters fought like Castillo they would be world champs sooner than expected. I will say it again; the first fight between Corrales and Castillo was the best fight I've ever seen in my life. I just hope that this fight has a fraction of the goods as the last one. It has all the makings of being great the second time around. The sad thing is, a lot of people missed out of their first bout. No one ever thought that their first fight would go down as one of the greatest fights of all time, but now everyone is looking to see if the second fight will come close. Everyone, including me.
