Barrera-Peden to Square Off In Las Vegas by Trever "DeuceDrop" Malagon - 09/15/2005 On Sept. 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, WBC Super Featherweight Champ Marco Antonio Barrera is taking on IBF Super Featherweight Champ Robbie Peden. This fight has the makings of being one of the most exciting fights this year. Both fighters known for their bravery and courage will put it all to the test against one another on the 17th. Barrera, who is arguably one of the best Mexican fighters ever is looking to unify the belts at 130 pounds against Robbie Peden. These two fighters have seen each other before in the ring, where as Peden was hired by Barrera and his handlers for being a sparring partner. Peden helped Barrera in his preparations for his second bout with Morales, but did more harm then good by breaking one of Barrera's ribs during sparring. The broken rib halted Barerra's training and pushed the fight back to a later date. Now with this in mind, it raises a question of, is Peden going be too big of a hitter for Barerra in the fight? Marco is by far a better fighter, but Peden is naturally bigger, and can box well. I mean, he is a world champ too. Peden is a world class fighter as well. They say in boxing, you take a really good small guy against a decent big guy; the big guy always has the better chance of winning. That's not always the case, but for the most part I believe it to be so, especially on a world class level. Either way these guys only know how to make good exciting fights, and I think that we are all in for a treat. May the best fighter win. |
