The Bowl Season is Here
The Bowl Season is here and as in past years we find some interesting match-ups. No matter how this all finishes up, the National Champion will have one loss. If Southern Cal beats Michigan, a true National Champion will not be crowned, as either LSU or Oklahoma will also have one loss.
At this time of the year it comes down to who is playing the best football. If LSU beats Oklahoma, it'll be very difficult not to side with LSU over Southern Cal. As one looks further into it all, one must take a look at the Trojans as they have played a more difficult schedule. A National Champion . . . a true one will not be crowned and in reality, will it make a difference five years from now? Probably not, but it's all fun and keeps us interested and that's what is most important.
As of this writing, the lines on the Bowl games have just arrived. It continues to amaze me how the oddsmakers can make the lines that tough. As difficult as they are, I feel they have made two mistakes involving Big Ten teams, and an absolute major mistake in one of the over/unders posted. Hopefully our knowledge of these teams gives us the edge in these three match-ups.
What an outstanding match-up it will be on January 4th, when LSU and Oklahoma play the final college game of the season. I believe the LSU Tigers have one of the top defenses in the country. One has to wonder if the 'Sooners' will be emotionally drained after losing a big game to Kansas State.
As I look over the past season, in general it has been a good year. Our Big Ten Game of the Year, Purdue over Iowa, was certainly rewarding. The game itself was never close as the Boilers had complete control. One of the most difficult losses of the season was the game between Wisconsin and Iowa. We used the Badgers as a 4-point favorite, and would have won easily if we hadn't lost our quarterback in the second quarter. We used the game as a 7-unit play, and therefore a 14-unit swing occured.
Weekly updates will start to slow down after football is over, however we will of course still be offering college basketball picks (and NBA from VSI) as well as baseball during the summer. Already we are looking ahead toward next year. As in past years we are always open to new ideas, especially for our football schedule. If anything comes to mind, we certainly would be interested in hearing from you. For those of you who were with us during the football season, it was a pleasure serving you. We hope that in the near future all of you will hook up with us in basketball. For those of you who do not do buckets, feel free to call our sports office from time to time just to keep in touch. Winning is always important, but in reality you the cusomer is what is most important. Happy Holidays from all of us here at Doc's!
