2015 Miami Hurricanes Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/13/2015
At this point I think it is time to let go of the idea of Miami coming "back" and becoming a major player on the national level like they were in the 1980s and early 2000s. Miami hasn't won 10 or more games in 11 years and haven't won a bowl game since 2006. This absolutely won't be the year in which they snap either streak.
2015 Pittsburgh Panthers Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/13/2015
Quick: name the Pittsburgh Panthers head coach. Can't do it? Don't feel badly. If you count interim coaches then new headman Pat Narduzzi is the sixth coach of the Panthers since the start of the 2010 season. That lack of cohesion and consistency is the main reason why they have been a .500 program over the last five seasons.
2015 Boston College Eagles Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/13/2015
Steve Addazio produced one of the best coaching efforts in the country last year, guiding a rebuilding B.C. team to a 7-6 record with a huge upset win over USC and two near-miss upsets against Florida State (20-17) and Penn State (31-30). Somehow the Eagles have even fewer returning starters (seven) this season than last. But after watching Addazio work last year, I'm not in a hurry to doubt him.
2015 Syracuse Orange Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/13/2015
Syracuse does have a senior QB in Terrel Hunt. However, he is one of the worst passing quarterbacks in the country. SU has four of five offensive line starters back. But this group averaged just 17.1 points per game last year (No. 118), and I don't see where they are going to improve in the attack. The defense was outstanding last year in spite of a horror-show offense. But Syracuse has just three defensive starters back and will be building from scratch.
2015 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/13/2015
Coach Dave Clawson will have one of the youngest teams in the country - again - and it could be another ugly season in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is obviously not a football school. But they love those football paychecks, so they will once again serve as fodder for the real teams in the rest of the sad-sack ACC.
2015 Oklahoma State Cowboys Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Last year I successfully predicted an easy 'Under' wager on Oklahoma State's season win total. They were in an obvious rebuilding year after a 10-win campaign, and their 8.0 total was overly ambitious. The Cowboys took advantage of an easy early schedule to fly out to a 5-1 start. But reality quickly snapped them back with a five-game losing streak. A huge upset over rival Oklahoma and subsequent bowl success, however, has given Oklahoma State's program momentum heading into this fall's campaign.
2015 Texas Longhorns Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Charlie Strong came in and cleaned house in his first season in Austin. Texas struggled to a 6-7 record and ended the year with an embarrassing bowl blowout loss to Arkansas. But Strong appears to be laying the foundation for his program. Year 2 may not be significantly more successful than Year 1, though, and Texas is still very much a third-tier power at the moment.
2015 Baylor Bears Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
I felt that Baylor was a bit of fool's gold last year. I admit that Bryce Petty led an absolutely devastating offense that averaged nearly 50 points per game. And the defense was a little stronger than even its numbers suggest. However, Baylor only played four decent teams or tricky games last year - TCU, at West Virginia, at Oklahoma and versus Michigan State. They lost two of those games, and a third, against TCU, they won by just three points. Further, Baylor won 11 games in 2013, and that too was against a cupcake schedule.
2015 Oklahoma Sooners Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Bob Stoops sees the writing on the wall in Norman. He knows that 8-5 seasons are unacceptable around those parts, so he made some offseason changes, most notably bringing in a new offensive coordinator to install a version of the Air Raid offense and adding a new starting quarterback to run it. The hope is that all this adds up to a big season and a vault back to the top of the Big 12.
2015 Kansas State Wildcats Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Don't bet against Bill Snyder. You just don't do it. Snyder is one of the best coaches in college football history, and he has been one of the best against the spread coaches in the sport over the last five years. This year's team doesn't look promising. But since Snyder acquires a lot of talent via junior colleges, this is always a team ready to exceed expectations.
2015 Texas Tech Red Raiders Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Kliff Kingsbury's second year was a big step back after a solid 2013. But now the question is whether the Red Raiders are ready to leap back into the top tier of the league or if they are still punching over their weight class in a loaded Big 12.
2015 West Virginia Mountaineers Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
I was on top of West Virginia going 'over' their season win total last year. Dana Holgorsen's squad quietly showed some progress and didn't take a bad loss on the season. They even played a bit of spoiler by knocking off Baylor. But, regardless, this season feels like a bit of a last stand for Holgorsen. He's reportedly a generally unlikeable person and hasn't been embraced by the Mountaineer faithful. And anything short of a breakout season could spell the end of his five-year run in Morgantown.
2015 Iowa State Cyclones Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
Paul Rhodes has kept Iowa State respectable for as long as he could. But the fact is that this program needs some new blood. They are coming off an ugly two-win showing last year, and with just 11 starters back I don't see a lot of upside this season. Iowa State has just one returning starter in the front seven on defense.
2015 Kansas Jayhawks Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/9/2015
I had the Jayhawks pegged last year, predicting that they would be more competitive (they almost knocked off TCU and Oklahoma State) but that they wouldn't make it to four wins. I feel even more confident this season predicting the Jayhawks to be one of the worst teams in any major conference in the country.
2015 TCU Horned Frogs Season Win Total Picks and NCAA Football Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/8/2015
I don't care what anyone says: TCU got screwed. The Horned Frogs were snubbed from the college football playoffs last year in favor of a team from the pathetic Big Ten. The politics of the decision to exclude TCU have been discussed ad nausea in the national press. But one thing is certain: this year's team will be using last year's snub as serious motivation this fall.
2015 Belmont Stakes Post Positions with Expert Betting Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 6/4/2015
The question everyone wants answered concerning this weekend's Belmont Stakes is if American Pharoah can win the Triple Crown. Maybe the question they should be asking is whether or not it will be good for horse racing if he does win the Triple Crown. The 147th Belmont Stakes will take place at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. The race will take place at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Television coverage of the event can be found on NBC.
MLB Betting Advice: Under-the-Radar Teams to Wager on
by Robert Ferringo - 5/28/2015
Gauging value is critical to success in baseball betting. It isn't enough to know which are the best teams and who are the best pitchers. Baseball is one of the few sports that doesn't have a spread to compete with. Which means that risk-management and bankroll discipline are crucial for any wannabe summer profiteer.
MLB Betting Tips: Hottest Baseball Teams for Wagering
by Robert Ferringo - 5/28/2015
Momentum is monumental in Major League Baseball betting. Every team, from the 100-game winners to the 100-game losers, goes through hot streaks and cold streaks during the course of a 162-game season. And understanding who's hot and who's not is a key aspect to making money during the summer home run season.
How New Extra Point Rules will Affect NFL Betting
by Robert Ferringo - 5/22/2015
I understand that The Powers That Be running the National Football League hate sports gamblers (well, some sports gamblers), but this is getting ridiculous. A cavalcade of rule changes over the past several years has warped the game and forced football bettors to stay on their toes. But the NFL's latest alteration is one that has a lot of pros shaking their heads.
MLB Handicapping: Why Bats are Getting Hot Again
by Robert Ferringo - 5/22/2015
Guess what: MLB hitters don't suck anymore. Well, let's just say they suck less. If there was ever any question to the extent steroids impacted Major League Baseball, they were answered with the pathetic offensive performances of the past two seasons. Scoring dipped to levels not seen since the Bush presidency - the FIRST one - and the game had become painful to watch on a daily basis.
