College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/9/2013
Another week, another winner. The Ferringo 15 went 8-5 against the spread last week for yet another profitable venture. These plays have now turned a profit in 12 of the last 15 weeks going back to last year and are off to an awesome start this season.
NFL Power Rankings Week 6
by Robert Ferringo - 10/8/2013
Depth is becoming more and more of a factor around the NFL as several teams have lost critical parts over the past two weeks. Julio Jones, Clay Matthews, Vince Wilfork and Jake Locker are just some of the big names that have gone down, and their losses have changed the complexion of their respective teams.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/3/2013
After our 9-2 eruption two weeks ago, the Ferringo 15 came back to earth a little bit last Saturday. Two of our top teams, Washington and Arizona, played one another (guaranteeing one win and one loss), but discounting that game our other clubs went 5-4 for another winning week.
NFL Power Rankings – Week 5
by Robert Ferringo - 10/1/2013
Last week I touched on the fact that the AFC had been dominating the NFC so far this year and how that had been one of the underlying trends in this first month of the season. The AFC promptly went out and went 5-4 against the spread versus its rival conference, running its mark to 15-8 ATS this year.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/26/2013
It was a monster 9-2 weekend against the spread for the Ferringo 15. Our Top-10 teams went unbeaten, and one of the losses last week came from the Missouri-Indiana game, which featured two of our top teams. That was a big pickup after back-to-back 7-7 weeks and has really given a jolt to our list here.
NFL Power Rankings – Week 4
by Robert Ferringo - 9/24/2013
I felt that one of the overarching themes of this 2013 NFL season was the fact that the NFC was clearly the superior conference in the league. Conference superiority has swung back and forth for the past 25 years, and after the beginning of this century was it was controlled by the AFC (seven of 10 Super Bowl titles). I felt their counterparts had regained the upper hand after taking three of the last four championships.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/18/2013
Weeks 2-4 are generally the lowest producing weeks of the year for the Ferringo 15, and last week was our second straight 7-7 showing against the spread. That means that our numbers are approaching Salvation Army territory – non-profit – as the F-15 sits at 23-20 ATS on the season. However, dating back to last year that is now 9 of 12 winning weeks for the teams listed in my Ferringo 15 College Football Power Rankings.
NFL Power Rankings – Week 3
by Robert Ferringo - 9/17/2013
Week 3 in the NFL is Desperation Week. NFL teams that start the season 0-2 have about a 10 percent chance of making the playoffs. The tension and angst that builds up on such a slow start is already palpable for teams like Washington, Tampa Bay and New York. And all of them know that teams that start the year 0-3 have virtually no shot at the postseason. That puts these teams in full-on Desperation Mode early in the season.
NFL Power Rankings – Week 2
by Robert Ferringo - 9/11/2013
Generally, the week following NFL Week 1 is one of the most obnoxious of the season. The teams that won their first game are all destined for big years and have everything clicking. The teams that lost their first game are in full-blown panic mode, and all of those weaknesses that were so obvious to every fan all offseason are insurmountable. Or something like that.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/10/2013
The Ferringo 15 went a solid 9-6 against the spread in Week 1 of the college season. But like I warned against, weeks 2-4 are generally the worst for our ratings as we weed out the non-hackers. Naturally, last week was a down week.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/4/2013
It was a really nice start to the season for the Ferringo 15 last week as we picked up where we left off in 2012. The F-15 went a solid 9-6 against the spread in Week 1 of the college season. Dating back to last year, that is now 9 of 10 winning weeks for the teams listed in my Ferringo 15 College Football Power Rankings.
NFL Power Rankings – Week 1
by Robert Ferringo - 9/3/2013
I have been staring at these spreads for a month. Time has seemingly been standing still over the past six weeks as we have endured the time between the start of training camp and the actual start of the 2013 NFL season. Professional football is one of the most massive industries in this country, and it has become a 365-day-a-year obsession. But after seven months of pointless speculation and gossip, we are finally at the moment where it has come time to prove one’s self.
NFL Handicapping: Preseason Winners and Losers
by Robert Ferringo - 8/30/2013
Contrary to popular belief, the NFL Preseason is not worthless. There is plenty of information to be gleaned from the exhibition season, and after a month of closely analyzing the 32 professional teams, I feel like the tone has been set for the pro football betting season.
College Football Opinion: Manziel Got Off Easy
by Robert Ferringo - 8/30/2013
Unless you have been living in a cave, you know about the drama surrounding Manziel. He signed thousands of autographs, “allegedly” for money, in clear violation of NCAA rules. His potential suspension has cast a pall over Texas A&M’s season prospects, and the reigning Heisman’s status has been a major issue in the sport since the story broke several weeks ago.
College Football Predictions: Syracuse vs. Penn State Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/29/2013
There was a time when a Syracuse-Penn State game would’ve been a headliner for the opening week of the college football season. Instead, these two programs will meet this weekend in a game that features two programs just trying to pick up the pieces and wipe off the dust of their former glory.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 8/27/2013
When I was a reporter in New York, a former sports editor of mine used to say that college football was nothing more than “violent figure skating”. His point was that without a playoff, college football was no different than other “sports” that rely on a third party – beyond the two teams on the field – to determine the “champion” based on style points. College football crowns its champions not on pure achievement but on its stylistic and subjective merits. Like figure skating.
2013 SEC Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/21/2013
Basically, the SEC is a shell game. They have ranged from “pretty average” to “terrible” in the nonconference portion of the schedule the past two years, and that is a decent indicator of how they stack up with the rest of the country. Also, the SEC is the nation’s best conference only if you are willing to ignore A) the eight teams at the bottom of the 14-team league and B) the fact that middling Big 12 teams have managed to fare pretty well in their first seasons in the league.
2013 Big Ten Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/19/2013
I think that most Big Ten football fans would agree with my assessment that the SEC is overrated and a little too full of itself. I don’t think that most of those same college football fans would agree with me that the second-most overrated football conference is their beloved Big Ten. But the fact is that while this league is seeped in tradition it is also seeped in mediocrity at the moment.
2013 Pac-12 Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/19/2013
A recent infusion of coaching talent, including the guys tasked with replacing hero coaches Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly, has helped send the Pac-12 on an upward trajectory. Guys like Rich Rodriguez, Mike Leach, Jim Mora, Sonny Dykes and Todd Graham have their respective programs in the infant stages. But each of those leaders know what they are doing, and it won’t be long before the Pac-12 is a high-flying, high-scoring league threatening the Big 12 and SEC for supremacy.
2013 Big 12 Predictions and College Football Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/16/2013
The Big 12 is still leading the sport in offensive innovation. Their 66.6 total points per game dwarfed the game totals of leagues like the Big East (46.1) and the almighty SEC (51.0). And all that scoring has made the Big 12 one of the most difficult leagues in the country for bettors to predict.
