Penn State has been in the Big Ten Conference for more than a decade and for the most part of their tenure, they have finished near the bottom of the conference. Sure they did have the one-year with Kerry Collins and Ki-Jana Carter when they ran the table until surrendering the national title to Nebraska (pre-BCS days).

The road teams in the Big Ten conference came to play, as they took three of the five games. All three teams (Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan) were favored but I doubt many felt that all would emerge victorious.

The Big Ten held form this week as -- for the most part -- the top half of the conference dominated the bottom half. The surprise team continues to be the Northwestern Wildcats, as they pounded Michigan State by a score of 49-14. They must really be kicking themselves for blowing a late lead against Penn State.

A great weekend in College Football was highlighted by two outstanding finishes in Big Ten play as both Wisconsin and Michigan came away with amazing, last second victories. The conference is still up in the air, as the only undefeated team suffered their first loss of the season. Other teams continue to struggle, as Purdue suffered another loss in West Lafayette and saw their dreams of a bowl game deteriorate.

The Big Ten Conference produced numerous upsets this week, as Penn State asserted themselves atop the standings. This surprising win continues a year of redemption as Coach Joe Paterno continues to prove his critics wrong by showing he can still win big games. This was just one of the four upsets of the five games that were played in the conference. Can Penn State run the table and finish 11-0?

The Big Ten Conference got shaken up for the second straight week as two of the undefeated teams went down in surprising upsets. Michigan State was on a roll and had a perfect opportunity to take out the Wolverines. We stepped in and used this game as our Revenge Game of the Year, as Michigan State has superior team this season.

The first week of conference action produced numerous exciting games and upsets as some of the preseason favorites went down in a big way. Our conference preseason pick Purdue, fell at the dome by a score of 42-35 in double overtime. The media selected Michigan to win the Big 10 and they also went down in Madison. My personal choice of Ohio State looked good as they handled Iowa in a big revenge game. The following will recap the highlights from week one of conference play and preview a very important week ahead.

The Big Ten Conference finished up its last week of non-conference play in style as ten teams came away with victories. Unfortunately the lone loss was Illinois and they played pretty well against California and thus covered the 21-point spread giving us a loss in our Top Game of the Week. The rest of the conference cruised to victory highlighted by Michigan State's three-point overtime victory against the Fighting Irish. The following will recap the highlights of last week's action and preview week one of the conference season.

The Big Ten Conference was shaken up this past Saturday as the top three teams in the preseason poll all went down. Two of the losses came as shockers as both Michigan and Iowa entered their respective games as more-than-a touchdown favorites and came away with devastating losses. Ohio State played a classic with Texas and outplayed them for 56 minutes but could not put the ball in the endzone and that finally caught up with them late in the game.

The Big Ten season got off to a great start last weekend with all 10 teams winning. They went 7-0 against the MAC conference and certainly did not disappoint many experts that believe this is the best conference in the country. However, the results need to be taken with a grain of salt as nine of the teams were playing home games and only one team came in as an underdog. Week two will get a lot tougher for some teams as traditional powerhouses are set to invade the Midwest.

by Doc - 08/25/2005
The 2005 Big Ten football season is filled with potential for numerous teams in the conference. A shocking announcement came when the Dean of Big Ten Coaches Barry Alvarez said he would be stepping down after 16 years as head football coach at Wisconsin. Alvarez turned around team that was a bottom feeder for decades, and led them to three Rose Bowl victories during the 1990s.

by Max Gundlach - 07/15/2005
The 2005 College Football season is just around the corner and this is our favorite time of year at Doc's Sports. The season is filled with optimism for every team in the Big Ten. However, many of these teams have question marks that need to be addressed in order for them to return to prominence. Can Michigan replace the offensive player of the year and top three NFL Draft pick Braylon Edwards?
