MLB:
SATURDAY:
RED SOX (47-35)
1:20 PM FOX
ORIOLES (44-39)
In this extremely important series between the first and second place teams in the AL East, the Red Sox are led by All-Stars Manny Ramirez (21HR, 73RBI), Johnny Damon (.338), David Ortiz (19HR, 68RBI, .303) and Jason Varitek (13HR, .313). The O’s counter with their own All Stars Miguel Tejada (19HR, 60RBI, .324) and Brian Roberts (15HR, 49RBI, .354) and Melvin Mora (14HR, 46RBI, .297).
A’S (41-41)
7:05 PM WGN
WHITE SOX (56-26)
On paper the A’s don’t stack up well against the scorching White Sox. Eric Chavez (11HR, 46HR, .278) is an excellent third baseman but after that it’s clear they are rebuilding. Pitching wins ball games and the White Sox have plenty two 10+ game winners at the break in Mark Buehrle (10-2, 2.58) and Jon Garland (13-3, 3.29).
SUNDAY:
CUBS (40-42)
1:05 PM WGN
MARLINS (42-39)
Holy amazing starting pitching staff’s batman! Dontrelle Willis (13-3, 1.29) is having a historic season and the Cubbies finally have their staff healthy and at just the right time. Led by Mark Prior (5-2, 2.86) and Derek Lee (25HR, 67RBI, .378) the Cubs are poised to make a run at the NL Wild Card.
CARDINALS (53-30)
8:05 PM ESPN
GIANTS (34-48)
My favorite to win the World Series, the Cardinals have a great team and will be sending a number of All Stars to Detroit including Albert Pujols (21HR,67RBI, .341), Jim Edmonds (15HR, 50RBI, .278) David Eckstien (.289), Scott Rolen and Chris Carpenter (12-4, 2.66). In what has been a very disappointing season for the Giants Moises Alou’s (12HR, 41RBI, .326) resurgence has been a bright spot.

TRIVIA ANSWER:
B) Wilbur Wood
Wood was a crafty knuckleballer who led the league in innings pitched and victories in 1972 and 1973. He had 18 wins at the All-Star break and was not voted onto the team. His record was somewhat inflated in that as a knuckleball pitcher he was able to start many more games than standard pitchers. Another surprising stat about Wilbur Wood is that he started BOTH GAMES of a doubleheader against the Yankees in 1973!
