2015 Belmont Stakes Handicapping: Jockey Profiles
by Trevor Whenham - 6/2/2015
The field has not been officially set for the Belmont Stakes as I write this, but American Pharoah has just arrived in New York, so things are feeling real. Two very good works from the Kentucky Derby and Preakness champ have scared off several contenders (though they all had other excuses they used), so it seems like we are heading towards a field of eight when we have our date with history - yet again - at Belmont on the first Saturday in June.
Tale of Verve Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/30/2015
Tale of Verve is, for me, one of those lessons in hindsight. In the leadup to the Preakness I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the long shot than it appeared, and I wrote about him as an intriguing long shot more than once. When it came down to crunch time, though, I couldn't pull the trigger - not in a big way, at least. I only had him in a small exacta with American Pharoah, but it wasn't enough to save the race for me.
Mubtaahij Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/30/2015
Mubtaahij was the pride of Dubai after winning the UAE Derby, which now, at least according to the points scale, is viewed as a major Kentucky Derby prep race. He then became one of the few horses to come from outside North America to try to win the Derby. None have come particularly close, and Mubtaahij was ultimately no exception.
American Pharoah Picks for the Belmont Stakes with Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/29/2015
American Pharoah is making my head hurt. On one hand, he has been an incredible force on the Triple Crown trail and has looked every bit like a potential Triple Crown winner. On the other hand, so did Silver Charm. And Big Brown. And Smarty Jones. Sunday Silence and Alysheba, too. All those horses were beat - and so were eight others since Affirmed last won the Triple Crown in 1978.
Frosted Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/29/2015
Frosted may not wind up as the winner of the Belmont Stakes, but by my eye he will be the most striking horse in the field. A big, dark grey is a beautiful thing, and that's what Frosted is. He's also an impressive runner - he backed up a big prep race win with a very solid effort in the Derby. The oddsmakers obviously love him - he is the second choice in the Belmont behind only American Pharoah.
The Truth Or Else Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/29/2015
The Belmont field looked stable for over a week, and then the changes began after horses did more works and reality began to set in. Out were War Story and Conquest Curlinate - both of whom didn't seem to have a great chance, anyway. In their place, The Truth Or Else, somewhat surprisingly, has come forward as a likely starter. He's a long shot to be sure, but he's out of a stable and with a jockey that both know a thing or two about long shots in the Belmont. So does he have a chance? Let's take a look:
Carpe Diem Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/28/2015
Coming into the Kentucky Derby, there were, depending on who you asked, either a Big 2 or Big 3 at the top of the equine heap. Bob Baffert's pair of American Pharoah and Dortmund were consistently praised, but in the eyes of many Carpe Diem was right there with them. While the other two had good days, though, Carpe Diem was just plain lousy. And without a real excuse. Now he comes into this race as a bit of an afterthought. So, was he overhyped back then? Or can he bounce back here?
Materiality Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/28/2015
Todd Pletcher is Bob Baffert's biggest rival when it comes to Triple Crown races. He is also the biggest threat to American Pharoah's Triple Crown dreams. Pletcher will be sending three horses to the starting gate in the Belmont Stakes if all going according to plans. Materiality is the least experienced of the three, but according to oddsmakers he is the biggest threat to win the race. So, can this horse crush the dreams of horse racing fans everywhere? Let's take a look:
Madefromlucky Odds to Win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/28/2015
Todd Pletcher is aiming to enter the Belmont starting gate three times in his attempt to end American Pharoah's Triple Crown bid. Of those three, Madefromlucky is the least accomplished, the highest-priced, and the one people know least about. But could he be the one with all the glory at the end? Let's take a look:
2015 Belmont Stakes Handicapping: Betting on Fresh Horses
by Trevor Whenham - 5/26/2015
One of the biggest challenges facing any horse trying for the Triple Crown - as California Chrome's owner so tactlessly reminded us after the Belmont last year - is that they are tired horses after running in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and they are facing horses that are much fresher. It's always a challenge in these situations, but never more so than this year - American Pharoah is the only horse that has started in both previous Triple Crown races.
American Pharoah Odds to Win the Belmont Stakes with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/25/2015
We are now inside of two weeks away from yet another shot at Triple Crown history in the 2015 Belmont Stakes. American Pharoah is the latest horse with a shot at immortality. I must be jaded by all the near, and not-so-near, misses over the years, because though American Pharoah is one of the very best horses to have had this opportunity I am almost accepting in advance that he won't win.
Horses that can win the 2015 Belmont Stakes with Expert Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 5/25/2015
There are a whole lot of people with all sorts of interests that will hope that only one horse, American Pharoah, can win the Belmont. If we have learned anything from history, though, it's that no horse is a lock for a Triple Crown no matter how good they have looked up to that point. So, that means we should be on the lookout for all of the horses that can win the Belmont. There are likely 11 horses pointing to the race, but in my eyes there are six with a realistic shot at victory (all odds to win the Belmont are from Bovada):
Kentucky Derby Horses in the 2015 Belmont Stakes
by Trevor Whenham - 5/25/2015
As it sits now, we seem to be looking at a field of 11 runners for the Belmont Stakes - 10 plus American Pharoah. Incredibly, eight of those 11 also ran in the Kentucky Derby - a higher proportion than we typically see in this race. Triple Crown hopeful American Pharoah is the only one who also ran in the Preakness, but seven others who weren't good enough on the first Saturday in May are poised to come back for another shot on the first Saturday in June.
2015 Belmont Stakes Betting Trends with Handicapping Advice
by Trevor Whenham - 5/22/2015
For the second year in a row we face a massive challenge in handicapping the Belmont Stakes - a potential Triple Crown winner. American Pharoah, like California Chrome last year and many others before them, will draw a massive amount of public betting attention and will be at the center of all the media coverage of the race. It can be very easy to get swept up in the excitement and back the horse enthusiastically at the betting windows.
2015 Belmont Stakes Betting Challenges: Handicapping the Distance
by Trevor Whenham - 5/22/2015
Handicapping the Belmont Stakes is hard. You have to deal with so many factors - young horses, a potential Triple Crown winner, horses coming in with different amounts of rest, and so on. Above all else, though, what makes this race so hard to handicap is the distance. At a mile and a half, the race is not only much further than any of the horses has run so far in their careers but also much further than they will likely be asked to run again. This is a unique and massive challenge, and we can never truly know if a horse is up to it until the race is run.
How to Bet the 2015 Belmont Stakes: Tips and Expert Wagering Advice
by Trevor Whenham - 5/21/2015
We are now days away from a real chance at history. American Pharoah is the latest horse to have a shot at immortality by winning the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, and he is one of the best to have that chance. As exciting as his presence is, it also makes it a very difficult race to bet on.
Odds and Betting Predictions for American Pharoah Triple Crown
by Trevor Whenham - 5/19/2015
We are left to ask the same question we have asked 13 other times since Affirmed last accomplished the toughest feat in sports - after winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, can American Pharoah win the Triple Crown? The short answer is, of course, yes.
2015 Belmont Stakes Handicapping: Early Look at the Field
by Trevor Whenham - 5/18/2015
There is only one race standing between American Pharoah and a date with Destiny. Win the Belmont and he will be a legendary horse, perched right beside Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Citation, War Admiral and the other Triple Crown winners. Just one race. That's the good news. The bad news, though, is that a very tough field of horse is shaping up to face him. American Pharoah is more than capable of winning the Belmont.
Belmont Stakes Betting Strategy and Preview
by CarbonSports - 6/5/2014
The final leg of the Triple Crown is upon us and for the first time since 2008 we've got a horse in California Chrome who has a chance to win the Triple Crown. No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed did it in 1978 and there have been 12 failed tries since then. One of those 12 tries was back in 2012 when I'll Have Another won the Derby and the Preakness but did not enter the Belmont and racing fans had to wait another year for some other horse to give it a go. Well California Chrome is that horse this year and he has looked dominant so far in his first two wins.
Sports Betting Insights: Tips for Betting the Belmont Stakes
by Dave Schwab - 6/4/2014
History could be made this Saturday, June 7, at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York with California Chrome trying to become the first three-year old thoroughbred to win the elusive Triple Crown of horse racing since Affirmed last accomplished this amazing feat back in 1978.
