It also helps to have some inside information on a particular series or game that may tip the scales one way or the other.
Sports Betting Futures Odds: And Now the NBA Season Can Really Begin
by Ricky Dimon - 4/14/2016
It is not unfair to say that the NBA season begins with the playoffs. Arguably in no sport is the discrepancy in entertainment value between the regular slate of action and the postseason more severe than it is in the NBA. The 2015-16 campaign may be a slight exception, what with Kobe Bryant's farewell tour and the Golden State Warriors' quest for 73 wins. But all of that is just an appetizer to the festivities that are about to begin.

A. ACL. This may not put a damper on lofty expectations, but Cubs' left fielder Kyle Schwarber suffered a torn ACL and LCL in a collision with center fielder Dexter Fowler during last Thursday's win at Arizona. Schwarber belted 16 home runs in just 232 at-bats last season. The Cubs (Lackey) are -230 home favorites over Cincinnati (Simon) on Wednesday, as indicated by Bovada Sportsbook.

Case of the Mondays: Spieth Collapses at the Masters
by Ricky Dimon - 4/11/2016
It was all right there for Jordan Spieth to deliver another wire-to-wire Masters victory. In fact, he might as well have already won a second consecutive Masters. And then, in the blink of an eye, he didn't have it won. Bogeys on 10 and 11 were merely the appetizer to what became one of the most shocking collapses in tournament history on 12. Spieth's woes paved the way for unheralded Danny Willett to storm from behind and steal the green jacket.

Case of the Mondays: Semifinal Snoozers Result in UNC vs. Villanova
by Ricky Dimon - 4/4/2016
If Monday produces a clunker (it shouldn't, but if it does), this could go down as the worst Final Four in history. Syracuse arguably had no business being in the tournament, and it certainly had no business being in the Final Four. A blowout loss to North Carolina pretty much cleared that up. In fairness to the Orange, they were far better this past Saturday than Oklahoma. Buddy Hield and the Sooners got humiliated by Villanova-a team they had defeated in the regular season.

A. Augusta National. The players will soon be arriving at the hallowed grounds of Augusta National, with the proceedings officially set to begin next Thursday. Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day are all +700 co-favorites at BetOnline Sportsbook to win the Masters next week.
Sports Betting Futures Odds:Tar Heels Cement Status as Title Favorites
by Ricky Dimon - 3/30/2016
It took pretty much the entire season to sort it out, but college basketball apparently has a dominant team-and it's North Carolina. Whereas the rest of the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 seeds fell by the wayside, UNC mostly coasted through the East Region to punch its ticket to Houston. The Tar Heels are joined there by a couple of No. 2 seeds (Oklahoma and Villanova) and a hard-to-believe No. 10 (Syracuse).

Unexpected upsets are a big part of any NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, but having the right insight to pick them is a very difficult task. Any time you bet money on the outcome of a sporting event there is a certain level of risk that you will be wrong. One of the best ways to try and improve your chances of cashing in on a wager is going into a matchup with an inside edge that tips the scales in your favor against the sportsbooks.

A. Anthony Davis. The Pelicans' big man will be shut down for the remainder of the season due to ongoing knee and shoulder problems, which will require surgery this spring or summer. One year after make it to the playoffs, New Orleans is a horrendous 26-43 and nowhere close to a postseason berth.
Case of the Mondays: Sparty Out of the Party
by Ricky Dimon - 3/21/2016
How mad were rounds one and two of the Madness? Well, let's just say that Michigan State's first-round loss at the hands of Middle Tennessee almost seems like a distant memory at this point. But what transpired between the Spartans and Blue Raiders last Friday should not be forgotten. It was, to be sure, one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. But MSU has plenty of company from other heartbroken teams that will be watching the Sweet 16 on television.

A. Arkansas-Little Rock. The team's head coach, Chris Beard, broke his hand punching a whiteboard during a Sun Belt Tournament championship win over Louisiana Monroe earlier this month. No punching was required on Thursday, when the 12th-seeded Trojans upset No. 5 seed Purdue 85-83 in double-overtime during first-round NCAA Tournament action.
