Weekly Sports Betting Hot/Cold List
by Nolan Sinclair - Strike Point Sports - 4/5/2012
Crack! Safe! Strike three! Yes folks, its here. Baseball season is upon us, and in this writer’s opinion it couldn’t have gotten here soon enough. The NCAA Tournament didn’t do enough to cure my sports appetite, my three-month bender following the Giants Super Bowl victory has worn off, and the Barclay’s Premier League is slowly coming to a close. I know many of you don’t enjoy the latter, but I urge you to pop a Guinness and enjoy some futobl.

A – Asian Apology. Jeremy Lin, the subject of the now infamous "Chink in the Armor" headline, reached out to unemployed former ESPN editor Anthony Federico, who came up with the headline that got him canned. Lin and Federico had lunch and discussed Christian values and racial slurs.

B – Big Ten. The Big Ten has four teams in the Sweet 16: Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin. They are 9-2 overall in the tournament. Plenty of props have been given to the Big Ten, so let’s roast the Mountain West instead. Its four representatives somehow managed to win only one tournament game (and against a No. 12 seed at that).

A- Arizona Cardinals. Moments after news broke that the Indianapolis Colts were parting ways with Peyton Manning, oddsmakers updated their odds of Manning's next destination. Manning taking his talents to the Arizona desert became the favorite at +250 just ahead of Miami (+300) and Washington (+400), while retirement was listed at +500.

T – Tim and Taylor. In a match made in ESPN, CMT and alliteration heaven, Tim Tebow took Taylor Swift to Toscanova for dinner. Somehow this event did not bring the ESPN bottom line to a screeching halt. The jesus-loving duo met at a pre-Oscars party and went to dinner but obviously didn’t have premarital sex.

Is it just me or do we need to do away with all professional all-star games? It seems as though they just keep getting worse and worse. The NFL Pro Bowl is an absolute joke. The MLB All-Star Game is awful as the fans just continue to vote in guys like Derek Jeter. And as we saw on Sunday the NBA All-Star Game is just a bad pick-up game.

Can you smell it? Spring is getting closer and closer. BracketBuster week has come and gone, pitchers and catchers are reporting, and that bastard groundhog was ripped from his comfortable hole in the ground in rural Pennsylvania. This is a great time of year for sports buffs.

A – Amasian. Jeremy Lin has been cat nip to pun-loving newspaper copy editors. After Lin drilled a three pointer with 0.5 seconds left to knock off the Canadian Raptors, the New York Post topped everyone with their headline, “Amasian.”

Thank goodness for Jeremy Lin. Yes, I know that the hype may be more than deserved, but he has definitely made the NBA relevant during the downtime following the NFL season. New York could be suffering from a serious hangover following the drunken stupor of the Giants Super Bowl victory, but Lin is the perfect remedy.

B – Butterfingers. Eli Manning got to go to Disney World, Wes Welker got 900 butterfingers dropped in Boston’s Copley Square in his honor with a note reading, “Thank you Wes Welker.” Welker is receiving a lot of heat for his critical dropped pass in the waning moments of Super Bowl XLVI. Pawngo.com took credit for the stunt and the company was promptly fined for illegal dumping. Welker was not fined for the dropped pass, by the way.

Oh my, that was some Super Bowl! Eli Manning and company foiled the Patriots yet again, just as Scooby and Shaggy do to Old Man Whithers each and every episode. I can hear Tom Brady now; “I would have won that Super Bowl if it wasn’t for that Eli, and Victor Cruz too.”

A – Aaron Rodgers. On his weekly radio show Aaron Rodgers blasted his NFC Pro Bowl teammates for their efforts during the Pro Bowl by saying some of the guys on the NFC side embarrassed themselves. Harsh words for a meaningless scrimmage. I wonder what Rodgers said about his Green Bay teammates after their effort in that one playoff game they had?

I have three questions that I need answered before I get to my weekly Hot/Cold List: First, why are NBA teams playing so poorly? I know that they didn’t have a full preseason and I know that the lockout took a toll on the players. But these are the best basketball players in the world, right? I mean, we still have most of the same guys that we had the year before didn’t we? Do Josh Childress, Kenyon Martin, and Wilson Chandler really have that dramatic an effect on the scoring in the NBA?

D – Dez Bryant. The Cowboys lost their regular-season finale to the Giants to avoid reaching the playoffs. So instead of preparing for playoff football, Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant spent his time in January starting a fight in a club in Miami and subsequently being detained by Miami police. That kind of sets the tone for his offseason right there.

The year was 2007. The New York Giants were playing their final regular season game versus the NFL’s best New England Patriots. The Giants gave a valiant effort and lost, 38-35. Fast forward to 2011-12. The New York Giants were playing the NFL’s best, The Green Bay Packers. The Giants gave a valiant effort and lost, 38-35.

A – Ante Up. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl was forced to wear a Denver Broncos jersey and be photographed “Tebowing” after losing a bet with the Denver mayor on the outcome of Sunday’s wild card game, won by the Broncos. If the Steelers would have won, the Denver mayor would have had to force himself on a drunk girl.

This month is actually quite interesting. The NFL is as hot as Hansel right now, NCAA football is over and that could actually be a good thing (I live in the South), and NCAA hoops is just hitting its stride. The NBA has, surprisingly, been quite entertaining, although it seems like every other night some team scores only 62 points. And the NHL has quietly elbowed its way back into the national consciousness.
Weekly Look at Interesting WagerWeb Sportbook Betting Lines
by David Schwab - 1/9/2012
WagerWeb is one of the most popular full-service sportsbooks in the gaming industry that offers wagering options on a full line of sporting events. What makes its Web site a bit different from some of the other sportsbooks is that it clearly identifies which sports currently have active lines and which ones remain inactive at this time. The following is a look at some of the different sports betting lines that are available for this week.

The NFL Playoffs are about to begin. College bowl season has gotten serious. The NBA is in its second week of play. NCAA basketball has begun conference play. And the Rangers just beat the Flyers in the Winter Classic, one of the more underrated NHL betting events that we have. What more can a sports bettor ask for?
