Doc’s Sports Fourth Down and Inches
by Max Powers - 11/5/2013
The 2013 college football season just wrapped up Week 10, and the top teams in the nation continue to dominate with lopsided wins. Florida State moved back into the No. 2 spot of the most recent BCS rankings over Oregon after crushing Miami, but many feel it’s still the Ducks’ spot to lose since they have a much more difficult schedule down the stretch. If Oregon wins out, it’s doubtful it would be denied a shot in the national title game as one of the top two teams in the country.
Weekly Q&A with Doc’s Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
by Doc's Sports - 11/5/2013
Doc’s Sports: There are two huge matchups this week in college football that could have a major impact on the BCS National Championship Game, but in reality, does Stanford have any shot at upending Oregon at home, and does LSU have a chance to beat Alabama on the road?
Case of the Mondays: Muschamp Goes From Gator Bait to Dog Bait
by Ricky Dimon - 11/4/2013
Florida head coach Will Muschamp suffered yet another Georgia-Florida loss. Miami (FL) lost its best player for the year. The Buffalo Bills lost to an undefeated opponent in a game that it arguably should have won. Now it’s time for some wound-licking before action continues on the gridiron next weekend.
Thank God it’s Friday: Edmonton Leaking Oil
by Ricky Dimon - 11/1/2013
The Edmonton Oilers are giving up goals in bunches and losing games at an equally rapid pace. Of course, they are no more than an afterthought in the NHL. Much more significant developments took place on the field this week. St. Louis swung and missed on its chance for another World Series title, while Cincinnati’s Halloween game at Miami was positively nightmarish.
Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 10/31/2013
Last week we had a rare occurrence — not a single game was a fit for the criteria of the Public Action Report. After a week off — and a less successful week before that — it’s time now to bounce back strong. We have four games to look at this week — three in college and one in the NFL.

A. Arkansas-Auburn. When you’re 3-5 overall, 0-4 in conference, and coming off a 52-0 loss (albeit to Alabama), you need a little something to spice up your life. Arkansas got it this week in the form of alleged incomplete video from Saturday’s opponent, Auburn. Head coach Bret Bielema says the Tigers’ copy did not paint an accurate picture of their plays, and he is not happy about it. The Razorbacks are +8 home underdogs on Saturday at 5Dimes Sportsbook.
Back to the Futures: Time to Hit the Hardwood
by Ricky Dimon - 10/31/2013
The baseball season officially ended on Wednesday night, the second day of the 2013-14 NBA campaign. Now it’s basketball sharing the limelight with the pigskin, so it’s time to take a look at some college and professional future odds.
Doc’s Sports Fourth Down and Inches
by Max Powers - 10/29/2013
We just completed Week 9 of the college football season and Week 8 in the NFL, and it was the pros that saved our tail for a change. We started the weekend going 0-4, but by the time Sunday’s games were in the book we had rebounded with a 5-5 record overall with the only losses coming from the juice on the picks.
Weekly Q&A with Doc’s Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
by Doc's Sports - 10/29/2013
Doc’s Sports: There are a number of playoff-caliber teams that are below .500 heading into the second half of the NFL season. Can you give us one or two that might be able to turn things around over the next two months and make a legitimate run to the postseason?
Back to the Futures: Jameis May Become Famous
by Ricky Dimon - 10/25/2013
Enticing individual prop bets abound as the baseball season heads for home and the college football campaign heats up down the stretch. On the diamond, a grizzled veteran is getting it done for Boston. On the gridiron, a talented upstart is inspiring FSU. Odds provided by Sportsbook.ag.

A. ACL. Even by NFL standards, it was a disastrous week on the injury front. Two marquee players in Sam Bradford and Reggie Wayne went down via the dreaded ACL tear. The Rams had only one other quarterback (Kellen Clemens) on the roster, so they added Brady Quinn and Austin Davis earlier this week. The Colts are already hamstrung by a lack of 2014 draft picks, so they likely won’t spring a midseason deal for a wide receiver. Indianapolis is +650 at Sportsbook.ag to win the AFC Championship.

The NBA has decided to revert back to the 2-2-1-1-1 NBA Finals format last used in 1985. The new format will replace the 2-3-2 schedule. Here at By the Numbers, we are staying with the same format, bringing you the numbers from the week that was and the week that will be in sports.

After righting the ship with a winning performance the week before, we could not be more pleased with another strong performance this past weekend that netted our $100 bettors a profit of $1,760. We went 5-1 in our college football picks for a total of +18 units, led by a 6-unit play on Oklahoma State. The Cowboys beat TCU by a score of 24-10 in a game that was hard to watch.

RE: The two biggest games this Saturday at the sportsbooks should be UCLA vs. Oregon and South Carolina vs. Missouri. While I am personally staying away from the Bruins, they will be an attractive play getting that many points. We should learn a bit more about just how real Missouri is against another one of the powers in the SEC.
Case of the Mondays: Rough Weekend on the College Gridiron
by Ricky Dimon - 10/21/2013
Perhaps it is appropriate that during the first week of the 2013 BCS standings, the SEC (which has won seven straight BCS National Championships) caused absolute chaos. Of course, it did not exactly take place right at the top—it was LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M, and South Carolina who bit the dust, whereas Alabama continued to take care of business.
Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 10/18/2013
Last week the hot streak of the Public Action Report cooled off slightly. After going 10-3 ATS in the three previous weeks, things just fell short of breaking even last time out at 3-3 ATS. We are back strong with a very busy week this week — six college football games and a somewhat surprising pick in the NFL.
Back to the Futures: World Series Rematch in the Cards?
by Ricky Dimon - 10/18/2013
With the baseball season rounding third and heading for home as the NFL and college football campaigns near the midway point, enticing future plays abound. Boston is the new World Series favorite, while the Chiefs are rising up the ranks of the best in pro football. Also, four familiar names are up on top of the 2014 World Cup futures board. Let’s take a look.

The US Government was shut down for 16 days, but the sports world carried on. There are two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL (Denver and Kansas City), three winless teams remaining in the NFL (Jacksonville, New York Giants and Tampa Bay), 16 undefeated teams in the NCAA FBS, eight winless teams in the NCAA FBS, and four teams left standing in the Major League Baseball playoffs (St. Louis, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston and Detroit).

A. Auburn. How bad must Gene Chizik be? The Tigers went 3-9 last year, including 0-8 in the SEC. Enter Gus Malzahn, and they are suddenly 5-1 and 2-1 in conference play with a win over Ole Miss and a respectable loss to LSU. One season after being a laughingstock of college football, Auburn currently finds itself in the Top 25 of the AP poll. The Tigers are +13 underdogs at Texas A&M this weekend, according to Sportsbook.ag.
Doc’s Sports Fourth Down and Inches
by Max Powers - 10/15/2013
After enduring a couple of down weeks, things could not have gone better for our clients with last weekend’s football picks. We previously mentioned that we would be cutting back on the number of selections last week. The plan was to release around 10 picks, with the goal of winning seven of those games. I am happy to report that we actually cashed in on seven of just eight selections for a net gain of 27 units. This translated to a healthy profit of $2,660 for our $100 bettors.
