NFL Handicapping: Flaws of the Major Contenders
by Trevor Whenham - 11/11/2013
Through 10 weeks of the NFL season, there are 10 teams with at least six wins. There is still plenty of football left to play, and anything could happen, but chances are fairly good that one of those 10 teams is going to be the Super Bowl Champions when all the dust settles. All 10 teams are varying degrees of very good, but none are close to perfect. Here’s a look at the biggest flaw of each of the 10 serious contenders in the NFL:
NFL Handicapping: The Sporadic New York Jets
by Trevor Whenham - 11/8/2013
The New York Jets are driving me crazy. I don’t really care about the team personally. I think Rex Ryan is a bit of a moron, but not so much that I care whether he wins or loses. As a bettor, though, I think I have handicapped this team incorrectly every week. It shouldn’t be that tough — they have followed every win with a loss all season long. Every time I feel like I have a sense of what to expect, though, they just prove me completely wrong.
NFL Week 10 Special Props Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/7/2013
One of Bovada's Week 9 specials was whether the Eagles would score an offensive touchdown against the Raiders considering they hadn't in their previous two games. There were very long odds that the Eagles wouldn't again (+1000), and I couldn't recommend that unless somehow Nick Foles got knocked out early. Instead, Foles channeled his inner Peyton Manning and tied an NFL record with seven TD passes.
Good Bet, Bad Bet: The Best and Worst NFL Wagers
by George Monroy - 11/7/2013
The good teams in the NFL are always on bettors’ radars. By this point in the year every gambler knows about the Kansas City Chiefs still being undefeated and providing bettors with excellent value on the season. Every bettor also knows that the Denver Broncos score points at a ridiculous rate, and that they have not gone “under” their posted total once this season.
NFL Handicapping: Teams that Could be Different Down the Stretch
by Trevor Whenham - 11/7/2013
For serious bettors there is nothing better — and by that I mean profitable — than change. The betting public starts to get set in their ways when it comes to expectations of teams once a season is half over or more. Teams that have a good chance of playing significantly different than those expectations can create major value for bettors who are willing to look beyond the typical expectations.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 10
by Dave Schwab - 11/6/2013
The race to the division title is on in the NFC East with just three games separating first place from last heading into the 10th week of the season. In a rare twist, the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins all came away with straight up wins last Sunday, with the Giants enjoying a much-needed bye. Both Dallas and Washington snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat, but Philadelphia steamrolled Oakland 49-20 on the strength of seven Nick Foles’ touchdown throws.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 10 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 11/6/2013
Scoring remained on an uptick in Week 9 of the NFL season, with nine of the 13 games going “over” the total. This was actually the fourth week in a row that the over play had an advantage. I went straight across the board on my top three picks with a record of 1-1-1. My year-to-date winning percentage on the total line now stands at 63 percent.
NFL Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 10
by George Monroy - 11/6/2013
Every week the NFL is filled will great betting situations for gamblers. The Dallas Cowboys are 7-2 against the spread and winning at a 77 percent rate. The San Diego Chargers and New York Jets both have over a 66 percent ATS win rate, while the Denver Broncos have gone “over” in every game they have played this season. If a bettor is doing his homework, there are ample opportunities to make a profit wagering on football this season.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 11/5/2013
For much of the season, I thought a Seattle-Denver Super Bowl was looking likely, but I no longer think there is a truly dominant team in the NFL this season. The Broncos were off in Week 9, but they clearly have defensive issues. As for the Seahawks, maybe they are just playing down to their competition.
NFL Handicapping: Denver Broncos and John Fox
by Trevor Whenham - 11/5/2013
The unfortunate illness of Denver Broncos head coach John Fox has created an interesting handicapping situation. Fox had tried to delay a needed heart procedure until the offseason, but after feeling dizzy on Saturday he was forced to have surgery and will miss at least a month and likely more. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has been named interim coach until Fox can return. Here are six factors to consider when trying to determine what this situation might mean from a betting perspective:
NFL Week 9 Special Props Odds and Betting Predictions

I just don't understand Minnesota head coach Leslie Frazier. He has the greatest running back on the planet in Adrian Peterson, and Frazier isn't using him. The Vikings have lost three straight games, and Peterson hasn't had more than 13 carries in any of them. Minnesota was down only seven at Green Bay midway through the third quarter last week, so it's not like the Vikings had to start throwing early in the game.
NFL Week 9 Line Moves: Panthers, Saints Face Increasing Odds
by CarbonSports - 11/1/2013
The Week 9 NFL betting lines have been shuffling all week long and should continue to do so as we approach game time. These five games have experienced the biggest shifts so far. Read on to find out where the smart money is.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 9
by Dave Schwab - 10/30/2013
So much for respectability in what has rapidly become the weakest division in the NFL. The only reason that all four teams in the NFC East did not lose last Sunday was that New York was playing Philadelphia, so somebody had to win. The Cowboys peeked their head above .500 with a Week 7 victory over the Eagles but quickly returned to form by blowing a big lead against Detroit in Week 8.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 9 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 10/30/2013
For the third week in a row in the NFL, the “over” has had the advantage on the total line. With only 13 games on last week’s schedule, the total went over in eight of those contests. I was also dead on with my top three “over/under” picks in Week 8 with a perfect 3-0 record. This raised my mark to 7-2 in the last three weeks, and it took my winning percentage on the season up to 67 percent.
NFL Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 9
by George Monroy - 10/30/2013
Week 9 of NFL action has four basic strategy teasers to offer sports bettors this Sunday. Two of the matchups involve home favorites being moved down to a lower number, while the other two involve home underdogs being moved past the seven-point mark. In general, basic strategy teasers have performed very well this season and are winning at a 77 percent rate. The bet, for those that are unfamiliar, are simple two-team six-point teasers that utilize the most common NFL key numbers of three and seven to move spreads past those marks.

New York Giants: NFC East Champions. Certainly didn't think I'd be writing that this season just a few weeks ago, but now it is seems very plausible because the division is so bad. New York has won two straight after winning 15-7 at Philadelphia on Sunday to end an eight-game road losing streak.
NFL Week 8 Line Movement: Chiefs, Saints, Packers Seeing Big Shifts
by CarbonSports - 10/25/2013
Usually by the time we hit the midpoint of the season, we have a solid idea of how teams will perform against the odds. However, as we’re seeing in with the Week 8 lines, there’s still a lot that’s left to be decided. There are at least five games that have experienced some seismic shifts in the spread. Let’s try and sort through the chaos to get a better idea of where your money is safest.
NFL Week 8 Special Props Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/24/2013
Not much resolution from my Week 7 Bovada specials story as I mostly focused on longer-term props. The one I did look at for last week only was on Broncos linebacker Von Miller in his return from suspension and how many sacks he would have against Indianapolis -- I leaned “under” one. I figured the Colts would focus all their blocking on stopping him, and he was neutralized, finishing with two tackles and, most important, no sacks.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 8
by Dave Schwab - 10/23/2013
The 4-3 Dallas Cowboys have forged the early lead in the NFC East after last week’s 17-3 victory over Philadelphia. Washington improved to 2-4 with a win over Chicago, and New York posted its first victory of the year by hammering Minnesota 23-7 this past Monday night, which just so happened to be my NFC East Pick of the Week. This raised my year-to-date record to 6-1 with a net profit of $1,770.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 8 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 10/23/2013
Scoring in the NFL has been on an uptick recently, with nine of the 15 games on the schedule going “over” the closing line for the second week in a row. I was also able to stay in the black on my top three “over/under” picks for the past two weeks with a record of 4-2.This raised my year-to-date winning percentage to 62 percent.
