Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 8
by George Monroy - 10/23/2013
Basic strategy teasers continue to be an excellent wager for football bettors every week. Last Sunday the teasers went an astounding 6-1 and are 33-9 on the entire season for a nearly 79 percent win rate. Basic strategy teasers, for those that are not familiar with the wager, are a positive expected value bet—which essentially means that they should turn a profit by blindly wagering on them—that moves spreads past the strongest NFL key numbers of three and seven.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 10/21/2013
You can now cross off the Chicago Bears as a threat to win the NFC North, much less the Super Bowl. No team was perhaps hit harder by injuries in Week 7 than the Bears. It was bad enough that Chicago's defense was terrible in a 45-41 loss at Washington, but the team's two most indispensible players were lost for likely six weeks: quarterback Jay Cutler and linebacker Lance Briggs. Cutler suffered a torn groin muscle (ouch!) in the second quarter when he was slammed to the ground on a sack by Chris Baker.
NFL Week 7 Betting Odds: Biggest Line Movers
by CarbonSports - 10/18/2013
As the money comes in on NFL betting for Week 7, either the line stays steady or it dances around like a desert lizard with hot feet. These are the five most interesting line movers and shakers on the board this coming Sunday. Which movement caught my eye? In some cases it was the lines that didn’t move at all. Read on to find out the best bets for Week 7.
NFL Week 7 Special Props Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/17/2013
I've been a little lax this season on hitting on some special week-to-week NFL props that Bovada and a few other sites are excellent at coming up with, so I'm here to remedy that this week. As usual, some of these are things that may happen this week, but some are just built off the news of the day and won't be decided for a while.
NFL Handicapping: Will Broncos or Chiefs Win AFC West?
by Trevor Whenham - 10/17/2013
It would have been absolutely impossible to believe it could happen, but the Denver Broncos have a legitimate threat to win their own division. The Kansas City Chiefs — the same team that had the first overall pick in the NFL Draft last year after a 2-14 disaster of a season — are 6-0 and playing outstanding defense. It has been assumed by many that the Broncos would win the Super Bowl, so their division was a given — an afterthought. However, can an argument be made that the Chiefs could actually finish ahead of the Broncos? Yes. How strong is that argument? Let’s take a look:
NFL Handicapping: Disappointing Falcons and Texans
by Trevor Whenham - 10/17/2013
The two most disappointing teams in the NFL through six weeks have unquestionably been the Falcons and the Texans. Some would argue that the Giants deserve to be in this group as well. The difference, though, is that Atlanta and Houston were both supposed to be among the two or three top teams in their conference, while the Giants were, at best, a fringe contender. The Giants are the worst of the three teams, but the Falcons and Texans have fallen further.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 7
by Dave Schwab - 10/16/2013
The NFC East reached some level of respectability after last week’s games with both Dallas and Philadelphia evening their mark at 3-3 on the year. This sets up a showdown this Sunday between the two division leaders. Both New York and Washington continued their downward spiral with losses, and they now have a combined record of just 1-10 this year. As far as my NFC East Pick of the Week, I improved to 5-1 with last Sunday’s four-unit play on the Cowboys over the Redskins in a 31-16 win that easily covered the 5.5-point spread.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 7 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 10/16/2013
Looking back at the total line results for Week 6 in the NFL, it was a good run for higher-than-expected scores, with nine of the 15 games going “over” the closing line. I got back to my winning ways after going 0-3 the week before with a 2-1 record for my top three picks for last Sunday’s games. This raised my year-to-date winning percentage to just over 60 percent.
Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 7
by George Monroy - 10/16/2013
Basic Strategy teasers continue to be one of the best bets in the NFL this season. The two-team, six-point teasers are currently winning at a 77 percent rate through six weeks and 35 games of football. The teasers are a very specific wager that includes only favorites of -7.5 to -8.5 points and underdog of +1.5 to +2.5 points. The wager takes advantage of NFL key numbers and the strength of three- and seven-point margin of victories. Last week basic strategy teasers went 5-1 and are 27-8 on the season.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 10/14/2013
The old cliche' "always take the Jaguars and 27 points" rang true again in Week 6 as Jacksonville rather predictably -- at least to me -- did cover the biggest spread in NFL history in losing 35-19 at Denver. It's rather hard to believe that Jacksonville held Denver to its fewest points of the season, but it was pretty clear that the Broncos were not taking that game too seriously no matter what the players said to the contrary.
NFL Handicapping: New England Patriots Passing Game
by Trevor Whenham - 10/10/2013
There have been a few things we can always be sure of in the NFL. Marvin Lewis will find ways to disappoint and make his team underperform but will still keep his job. The Bills will always find a way to fall below expectations — no matter how meager they might be. And Tom Brady will always be able to pass like crazy. The first two, thankfully, are as true as ever this year. The third, though, has been far from the case, and frankly it has me all disoriented.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 6
by Dave Schwab - 10/9/2013
The NFC East will have a chance to redeem itself as the worst division in the NFL with two primetime appearances in Week 6 of the NFL season. After compiling a combined record of just 5-14, with three of the wins coming from within the division, any kind of victory this week would be a step in the right direction for this once-powerful division. Denver has owned the NFC East this season, and it has also been a goldmine on the total line bet. I rode them for the second week in a row on the “over” in a 3-unit play to boost my NFC East pick of the week record to 4-1.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 6 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 10/9/2013
The total line results were split right across the board last week, with seven games going “over” and seven staying “under”. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of all three of my picks last week; putting a huge dent in a 75-percent winning percentage over the first four weeks of the NFL season.
NFL Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 6
by George Monroy - 10/9/2013
Basic strategy teasers had a strong showing last week, posting a 6-1 record and netting bettors a solid profit for Week 5 of NFL action. The football season continues to be as intriguing as ever with more than a third of the year already complete. Peyton Manning and the Broncos are producing at an epic offensive pace, while more than a few teams have surprisingly struggled—the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons are the first teams that come to mind.
NFL Handicapping: Defense a Broncos Weakness?
by Trevor Whenham - 10/9/2013
The euphoria surrounding the Denver Broncos has reached epic heights — they will quite possibly be the biggest favorite in the history of the modern NFL this weekend. While their offense has indeed been a marvel to watch, it is tough not to be concerned about the defense.
NFL Odds: NFC East Betting Predictions
by Darin Zank - 10/9/2013
There's a battle of attrition going on in the NFC East at the moment. Somebody will eventually “win” this division; they might be 8-8 or 7-9 when it's all over, but somebody is going to win this division. It might be like in 2010 when Seattle won the division with a 7-9 record. But, trust me, someone will win this bad boy!
NFL Handicapping: Green Bay Finally has Running Game
by Darin Zank - 10/9/2013
Every NFL season offers up a few early surprises. This year, we've got the Kansas City Chiefs, who are off to a 5-0 start, and the Cleveland Browns are tied for first place heading into October. In another shocking development, the Green Bay Packers may have found themselves a running game to complement their potent passing attack. Think of the implications.
NFL Betting Odds Week 6 with Bookie Leans for Wagering
by CarbonSports - 10/8/2013
We’re hitting that juicy part of the schedule where contenders start to separate from pretenders, and that means that the betting lines are going to be fairer than we’ve seen over the past five weeks. The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are the only teams that have the week off. I’ve broken down my favorite bets and non-bets this weekend with some early thoughts on some important matchups. Take a gander and check back with us later in the week.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 10/7/2013
We had some interesting quarterback news out of Week 5, especially from Thursday's Bills-Browns game where both starting QBs, Brian Hoyer and E.J. Manuel, went down with injuries. Hoyer's season is over, a shame with how well he was playing. Cleveland won anyway as Brandon Weeden gets one last chance to prove he's an NFL starter. Manuel will miss a few weeks, meaning former practice squad player Thaddeus Lewis will start this week against Cincinnati, which opened as a seven-point favorite.
Largest Point Spread in NFL History: Jacksonville at Denver
by Trevor Whenham - 10/7/2013
In a development that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Denver Broncos have opened as the biggest favorites in NFL history when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The game opened at either 27.5 or 28 points, depending on the source. Almost two-thirds of bets in early action have been the Broncos, so there is a chance that the number could climb even higher.
