NFL Handicapping: New England Patriots Passing Game
by Trevor Whenham - 10/10/2013
There have been a few things we can always be sure of in the NFL. Marvin Lewis will find ways to disappoint and make his team underperform but will still keep his job. The Bills will always find a way to fall below expectations — no matter how meager they might be. And Tom Brady will always be able to pass like crazy. The first two, thankfully, are as true as ever this year. The third, though, has been far from the case, and frankly it has me all disoriented.
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 6
by Dave Schwab - 10/9/2013
The NFC East will have a chance to redeem itself as the worst division in the NFL with two primetime appearances in Week 6 of the NFL season. After compiling a combined record of just 5-14, with three of the wins coming from within the division, any kind of victory this week would be a step in the right direction for this once-powerful division. Denver has owned the NFC East this season, and it has also been a goldmine on the total line bet. I rode them for the second week in a row on the “over” in a 3-unit play to boost my NFC East pick of the week record to 4-1.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 6 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 10/9/2013
The total line results were split right across the board last week, with seven games going “over” and seven staying “under”. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of all three of my picks last week; putting a huge dent in a 75-percent winning percentage over the first four weeks of the NFL season.
NFL Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 6
by George Monroy - 10/9/2013
Basic strategy teasers had a strong showing last week, posting a 6-1 record and netting bettors a solid profit for Week 5 of NFL action. The football season continues to be as intriguing as ever with more than a third of the year already complete. Peyton Manning and the Broncos are producing at an epic offensive pace, while more than a few teams have surprisingly struggled—the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons are the first teams that come to mind.
NFL Handicapping: Defense a Broncos Weakness?
by Trevor Whenham - 10/9/2013
The euphoria surrounding the Denver Broncos has reached epic heights — they will quite possibly be the biggest favorite in the history of the modern NFL this weekend. While their offense has indeed been a marvel to watch, it is tough not to be concerned about the defense.
NFL Odds: NFC East Betting Predictions
by Darin Zank - 10/9/2013
There's a battle of attrition going on in the NFC East at the moment. Somebody will eventually “win” this division; they might be 8-8 or 7-9 when it's all over, but somebody is going to win this division. It might be like in 2010 when Seattle won the division with a 7-9 record. But, trust me, someone will win this bad boy!
NFL Handicapping: Green Bay Finally has Running Game
by Darin Zank - 10/9/2013
Every NFL season offers up a few early surprises. This year, we've got the Kansas City Chiefs, who are off to a 5-0 start, and the Cleveland Browns are tied for first place heading into October. In another shocking development, the Green Bay Packers may have found themselves a running game to complement their potent passing attack. Think of the implications.
NFL Betting Odds Week 6 with Bookie Leans for Wagering
by CarbonSports - 10/8/2013
We’re hitting that juicy part of the schedule where contenders start to separate from pretenders, and that means that the betting lines are going to be fairer than we’ve seen over the past five weeks. The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are the only teams that have the week off. I’ve broken down my favorite bets and non-bets this weekend with some early thoughts on some important matchups. Take a gander and check back with us later in the week.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 10/7/2013
We had some interesting quarterback news out of Week 5, especially from Thursday's Bills-Browns game where both starting QBs, Brian Hoyer and E.J. Manuel, went down with injuries. Hoyer's season is over, a shame with how well he was playing. Cleveland won anyway as Brandon Weeden gets one last chance to prove he's an NFL starter. Manuel will miss a few weeks, meaning former practice squad player Thaddeus Lewis will start this week against Cincinnati, which opened as a seven-point favorite.
Largest Point Spread in NFL History: Jacksonville at Denver
by Trevor Whenham - 10/7/2013
In a development that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Denver Broncos have opened as the biggest favorites in NFL history when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The game opened at either 27.5 or 28 points, depending on the source. Almost two-thirds of bets in early action have been the Broncos, so there is a chance that the number could climb even higher.
NFL Handicapping: ATS Studs and Duds
by Trevor Whenham - 10/7/2013
The NFL season is still young, but we have seen enough already to have a sense of which teams are strong for bettors and which teams really aren’t. Here’s a look at the studs and duds of the season to date when it comes to covering spreads:
NFL Handicapping: Most Consistent Teams to Bet On or Against
by Trevor Whenham - 10/3/2013
Last week we looked at teams in the NFL that gave me the biggest headaches — their inconsistency making them all but impossible to handicap with any confidence. This year we want to do the opposite, because it feels so much more positive — look at the teams that have been pleasingly consistent and comprehendible through the first month of the season. These are the four teams which, so far at least, have made the handicapper in me smile:
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 5
by David Schwab - 10/2/2013
Ever since the new-look Eagles lit up Washington 33-27 as four-point road underdogs in Week 1 they have been trying to recapture that form in three losses to teams from the AFC West both straight-up and against the spread. It has been a steady progression downward with last Sunday’s lopsided loss to the Broncos being the low point of the season.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 5 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 10/2/2013
The total line results slightly favored the “over” in Week 4 after nine of 16 games stayed “under” the week before, but the overall year-to-date results on this line are basically even through the first four weeks of the NFL season. I quickly returned to my winning ways with a perfect 3-0 record in last week’s picks to take my overall record to 9-3 on the year.
NFL Handicapping: A Look At The Unbeatens
by T.O. Whenham - 10/2/2013
Through the first quarter of the NFL season we still have five unbeaten NFL teams — a remarkable accomplishment. The further we go with unblemished teams, the more interesting it becomes — as both a fan and a handicapper — to look at how long they might stay unbeaten, and which team is most likely to be the last one standing. In alphabetical order:
NFL Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Options for Week 5
by George Monroy - 10/1/2013
Wagering on basic strategy teasers has been a fairly straightforward affair through the first five weeks of a still very young NFL season. The teasers have been winning at a 72 percent rate, and that number is probably even higher for those bettors that have played them with caution and are only wagering on the strongest of the bunch. A basic strategy teaser is a two-team combination wager that takes advantage of two of the strongest NFL key numbers of three and seven.
NFL Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 9/30/2013
I really don't want to talk about the Denver Broncos as my lead again this week, but they are performing at such an obscene level right now that they are the story line with the NFL regular season at its quarter pole. It's almost hard to comprehend how good Peyton Manning is right now.
NFL Handicapping: New York Giants Face Long Odds for Playoffs
by Trevor Whenham - 9/26/2013
I am not privy to the strategy sessions of the New York Giants’ inner circle. I am confident, however, that this is not how the first three games of the season were supposed to turn out. Not only are they 0-3, but they have been progressively less competitive with each outing. They narrowly lost in Dallas in the opener, were not particularly competitive at home against the Broncos, and seemingly missed their flight to Carolina. So, can this team turn things around and perform better from this point forward?
NFC East Weekly NFL Betting Picks: Week 4
by Dave Schwab - 9/25/2013
The NFC East is quickly turning into the NFC least with a straight up record of 1-7 in the last two weeks. Both Washington and New York are still looking for their first win of the year, and Philadelphia has lost its last two after beating the Redskins on opening weekend. I suffered my first loss of the season in my pick of the week when the Giants failed to show up for last week’s game against Carolina.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 4 Over and Under Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 9/25/2013
The total line results were a dead even 16-16 heading into Week 3 of the NFL season, but points were a little harder to come by for a number of teams last week, with nine of the 16 games staying “under” the closing total line. My hot start got doused with an icy 1-2 record in last week’s picks, but I still have twice as many wins as losses through the first three weeks of the season.
