For me, August has always been one of, if not the, fastest month of the year. Growing up, we always wished for an Indian Summer, an endless season. This team has accelerated their rebuild and are now primed to be competing for the years to come.

Several head coaches in the NFL could have been fired in the offseason but were spared. The New Orleans Saints' Dennis Allen and Robert Saleh of the New York Jets are two of those names.

Quarterback play was the glaring issue, as Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent were just not going to take this team to the playoffs.

Last season went better than expected for Tampa Bay as the Baker Mayfield experience led them to a division title and to the second round of the playoffs. Tampa Bay started the season 3-1 before heading into their Week 5 bye week. The bye week almost had a reverse effect for the Bucs as they proceeded to go just 1-6 over their next seven games.

Despite having the third best point differential in the NFC, the 9-8 New Orleans Saints missed out on the playoffs thanks to Tampa Bay holding the tiebreaker. Seven of the eight Saints losses were by one possession. And the one that wasn’t was a nine-point road loss. This team just did not have luck on their side last season.

Each of their two wins were by two points, at home, while one was to the Falcons, who also carried a losing record a season ago.

Last season was one to forget for the Atlanta Falcons, as they ended the year losing four of their last five games and ultimately missing out on the chance to win the division. Playing in one of the worst divisions in the NFL has helped Atlanta be on the cusp of the playoffs for many years, but they have failed to make it to the postseason, as their last playoff appearance was in 2017. Atlanta desperately needs to improve on its 7-10 mark so they can end their playoff drought.
