Over the past two weeks, a pair of teams have emerged ahead of the pack, covering spreads with ease, while another pair has consistently fallen short. Here are the hottest and coldest teams against the spread in the NBA.

Tonight, the Knicks (27-17) head back home to welcome the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets (31-14) to New York. Denver suffered from a minor championship hangover to start the season, going 14-9 through the first quarter of the season. They never dropped out of the top 4 in the West, but they were playing below their very high standards. However, they’ve straightened the ship, going 17-5 since, and find themselves just half a game behind the Western Conference leading Thunder.

Tonight, the Knicks (26-17) will have plenty of rest after having 3 days off at home, and they take a short trip to Brooklyn to take on the Nets (17-25). Brooklyn is on the outside looking in regarding the postseason, as numerous injuries and inconsistent play has left them languishing in the bottom half of the league. While the Knicks have won 9 of their last 11 games, Brooklyn has been heading in the opposite direction, dropping 10 of their last 12 contests.

Tonight, the Knicks (24-17) are on the tail end of a back-to-back when they welcome the Wizards (7-32) to New York, as they enter the second half of the season sitting in 5th place in the East. The first half of the season has gone well for New York, and there were plenty of ups and downs. The Knicks held their opponents to 120 or fewer points in each of their first 19 games this season and had a 12-7 record to show for it.

Tonight, the Knicks (23-17) continue their 4-game homestand with a visit from the Houston Rockets (19-20). The Rockets have gotten off to a much better start than many expected, as their combination of veteran leaders and young talents have allowed them to pull off several upsets this season. In free agency, Houston picked up Fred VanVleet on a 3-year, $129 million dollar deal. While I absolutely believe the Rockets overpaid for VanVleet, his guidance from the point combined with flexible contracts for the inexperienced Rockets prospects have allowed the Rockets to succeed.

Tonight, the Knicks (23-16) are back in the comfort of Madison Square Garden, as they welcome the Orlando Magic (21-18) to New York. The Magic have been one of the surprise teams of the season and are on track to finish above .500 for the second time since 2011. Their second ranked defense has propelled them up the standings. And with no player averaging 23+ PPG on the roster, it has taken a full team effort on both ends of the court to earn victories.

The NBA season is rapidly approaching the midway point, and some teams have been catching fire at the right time, while others are watching their season slowly slip away. Over the past 2 weeks, a pair of teams have been consistently exceeding expectations against the spread, with another duo falling short. Here are the hottest and coldest teams against the spread, with the highest and lowest scorers to start 2024.

Tonight, the Knicks (22-15) head to Dallas to take on the Mavericks (22-16), in a battle of two very evenly matched teams. Luka Doncic has been leading the Mavericks team in PPG (33.6), Assists (9.1), Rebounds (8.1), and Steals (1.4). His impact on both ends of the court has allowed Dallas to ascend on the standings. However, with Doncic out for tonight, the Knicks will feel confident they can take advantage of a weakened Mavericks side.

Tonight, the well-rested Knicks (21-15) welcome the Portland Trail Blazers (10-25) to Madison Square Garden, as they look to continue their ascension up the Eastern Conference standings. Portland made the decision to trade Damian Lillard to prioritize the future of the franchise, and it’s no surprise to see them among the Western Conference bottom feeders.

Tonight, the New York defense will be tested, as the Knicks (19-15) head to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers (23-10). Philadelphia has shot up the Eastern conference standings thanks to a 4th ranked offense, and a 2nd ranked defense. The MVP favorite Joel Embiid has been dominant on both ends of the court, and while his foul drawing techniques may be often criticized, they are extremely effective.

Tonight, the Knicks (18-15) will look to stay on track at home, when they welcome the sneaky Chicago Bulls (15-20) to town. The Bulls have been without Zach LaVine since November 28, and have done much better without one of the superstars. They started off the season 5-13. However, since he’s been on the shelf, they’ve gone 10-6 straight up and 12-4 Against the Spread.

The Knicks are coming into tonight’s matchup on a 3-game skid, losing to the Thunder, Magic, and Pacers. Their defense has been the issue, as they’ve allowed an average of 129 points over that span as their best defender, Mitchell Robinson, continues to sit on the bench with a season ending ankle injury.

As 2023 comes to a close, the NBA standings have begun to take shape. Unbelievably, more than a third of the season is already behind us, and some teams have been solid money makers thus far, while others have limped towards 2024. Here are the hottest and coldest teams against the spread over the last 2 weeks, with the highest and lowest scorers examined too.

Tonight, the Knicks (17-12) get back on the road to Oklahoma City, to take on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder (19-9). Oklahoma City took down the Western Conference leaders last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves, 129-106, after holding the T-Wolves to just 14 4th quarter points. The young Thunder franchise is ready to challenge for an NBA title, and taking down the league’s best teams has set them up for a comfortable second half of the regular season.

Tonight, the Knicks (15-11) wrap up their 5-game road trip with a game back on the East Coast against the Brooklyn Nets (13-13). Since trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving at last season’s trade deadline, the trajectory of the Nets franchise has been unclear. They have too many quality pieces to tank, but not enough bonafide star power to challenge for an NBA title.

On Saturday night, the Knicks fell to the Clippers 144-122 after Kawhi Leonard and Paul George scored 36 and 25 points, respectively. Their defense let them down once again, and the extended absence of Mitchell Robinson could not be playing a bigger role in New York’s success. Concerns surrounding the Knicks defense are mounting. After allowing 120 or fewer points in each of the first 19 games of the season, they’ve allowed over that threshold in 5 of their last 6, including 146 against the Bucks, 144 against the Clippers,

The Suns have yet to reap the rewards of their offseason moves, as Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker have yet to remain healthy enough to generate the chemistry needed to put wins on the board. Their Wednesday night defeat to the Nets was the first time all 3 had been on the court together this season, and it’s understandable that they fell short.
