The Super Bowl has come and gone. I hope you were on the Chiefs and the under. We threw those two lines into a teaser, and it turned out to be the bet of the night that was never really in question. This weekend, sports fans are treated to some East vs West All-Star action. Before the game on Sunday, though, we have the always amazing dunk contest, the 3-point contest, with several All-Stars in the field, as well as a friendly battle of the sexes between the WNBA's New York Liberty star, Sabrina Ionescu, and Steph Curry.

Free NBA Picks New York Knicks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 2/12/2024
by Spencer Toth - 2/12/2024
The New York Knicks (33-20) sputtered to a 3-3 record during their 6-game home stand, and they head back on the road tonight when they visit Houston to take on the Rockets (23-29). Houston has been a team I’ve had my eye on all season long, as their combination of blossoming youngsters and seasoned veterans has them ready to compete for a play-in position. In the backcourt, Fred VanVleet (out tonight with a strain) and Dillon Brooks have been able to show leadership for a young Houston team.

Our picks went 2-3 last week (9-6 overall) and we will try and improve on that mark this week. Doc’s Sports will break down some of tonight’s best plays on the hardwood.

The NBA All-Star break is looming, and some teams have entered the second half of the year strong, while others have begun to dip below expectations. Over the last 2 weeks, a pair of teams have emerged as consistent spread coverers, while another duo has fallen short. Here are the hottest and coldest teams in the NBA, with the highest and lowest scorers.

Tonight, the Knicks (33-18) welcome the surging Dallas Mavericks (28-23) to the historic Madison Square Garden. This matchup is extremely competitive on paper, but the injuries to the Knicks could see this one get out of hand early. It feels as though we were robbed of what could’ve been one of the games of the season, as with Randle and Anunoby on the sidelines, and Brunson questionable with an ankle injury, we won’t get to see these teams truly go toe to toe.

The New York Knicks (32-18) welcome the Memphis Grizzlies (18-32) to town, and this one shouldn’t be too close. New York is a mammoth -1400 on the moneyline and are laying 14.5 points on the spread. Memphis has struggled all season long, as they’ve been plagued with injuries, and off court issues. Ja Morant’s return to the team was abruptly cut short after just 9 games of action before he suffered a season ending shoulder injury. Joining him on the sidelines is Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. Xavier Tillman, and another 7 benchwarming Grizzlies.

Tonight, the Knicks (31-17) welcome the Indiana Pacers (27-21) to Madison Square Garden. Indiana got off to a red-hot start to the season thanks to a dominant offense but has seen the wheels fall off in recent weeks. Through the first month of the season, Indiana led the league in PPG by a wide margin, but they were also allowing the most points in the NBA.

Tonight, the Knicks (30-17) head back home to welcome the Utah Jazz (24-24) to New York. Both of these teams are on the second half of a back-to-back but had very different nights yesterday. While the Knicks got a sweat-free win against the Hornets, the Jazz took an even bigger defeat, losing 147-114 to the Brooklyn Nets. Ben Simmons made his season debut and nearly posted a triple double, while going 5/5 from the field. Utah was unable to do anything on the defensive end, as Brooklyn shot 51% from the floor, and 47% from deep. Once you factored in Utah’s 17 turnovers, they never really stood a chance.

Luckily for New York, their first test comes against a perennial bottom feeder, as the Knicks (29-17) take a quick trip to Charlotte to take on the Hornets (10-34) tonight. There aren’t many easier matchups for New York, as the Hornets have struggled to put wins on the board all season long, losing 21 of their last 24 games. Key rim protector Mark Williams has missed extended periods of time, and he will be out once again tonight, with 4th leading scorer Gordon Hayward joining him on the bench.

The NBA season has entered into the second half, and certain teams have been able to find chemistry, while others are slipping down the standings. Over the past two weeks, a pair of teams have emerged ahead of the pack, covering spreads with ease, while another pair has consistently fallen short. Here are the hottest and coldest teams against the spread in the NBA.

Tonight, the Knicks (27-17) head back home to welcome the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets (31-14) to New York. Denver suffered from a minor championship hangover to start the season, going 14-9 through the first quarter of the season. They never dropped out of the top 4 in the West, but they were playing below their very high standards. However, they’ve straightened the ship, going 17-5 since, and find themselves just half a game behind the Western Conference leading Thunder.

by Spencer Toth - 1/23/2024
Tonight, the Knicks (26-17) will have plenty of rest after having 3 days off at home, and they take a short trip to Brooklyn to take on the Nets (17-25). Brooklyn is on the outside looking in regarding the postseason, as numerous injuries and inconsistent play has left them languishing in the bottom half of the league. While the Knicks have won 9 of their last 11 games, Brooklyn has been heading in the opposite direction, dropping 10 of their last 12 contests.

Free NBA Picks New York Knicks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 1/18/2024
by Spencer Toth - 1/18/2024
Tonight, the Knicks (24-17) are on the tail end of a back-to-back when they welcome the Wizards (7-32) to New York, as they enter the second half of the season sitting in 5th place in the East. The first half of the season has gone well for New York, and there were plenty of ups and downs. The Knicks held their opponents to 120 or fewer points in each of their first 19 games this season and had a 12-7 record to show for it.

Tonight, the Knicks (23-17) continue their 4-game homestand with a visit from the Houston Rockets (19-20). The Rockets have gotten off to a much better start than many expected, as their combination of veteran leaders and young talents have allowed them to pull off several upsets this season. In free agency, Houston picked up Fred VanVleet on a 3-year, $129 million dollar deal. While I absolutely believe the Rockets overpaid for VanVleet, his guidance from the point combined with flexible contracts for the inexperienced Rockets prospects have allowed the Rockets to succeed.

Tonight, the Knicks (23-16) are back in the comfort of Madison Square Garden, as they welcome the Orlando Magic (21-18) to New York. The Magic have been one of the surprise teams of the season and are on track to finish above .500 for the second time since 2011. Their second ranked defense has propelled them up the standings. And with no player averaging 23+ PPG on the roster, it has taken a full team effort on both ends of the court to earn victories.
