College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/20/2012
Last Saturday capped a Salvation Army weekend for the Ferringo 15 – it was nonprofit. Our teams went 7-7 against the spread, with several of them winning games but losing at the window to the inflated spreads that they are now shackled with. (Perhaps the oddsmakers are reading the Ferringo 15 and adjusting accordingly! Ha!)
NFL Odds: Patriots at Ravens Predictions and Pro Football Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/19/2012
The third week of the NFL season brings us a rematch of the AFC Championship Game last year. New England won that game to head to the Super Bowl, but Baltimore was the better team for much of the day and should probably have come out on top.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 3 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/19/2012
The 2012 NFL regular season rolls into Week 3, and with regards to the total line 17 of the 32 games played have gone “over” the total. This equates to 53 percent of the games, which is not much of an edge. I once again missed the mark on two of my three picks, so it is back to the drawing board for this week’s matchups.
Thursday College Football Picks: BYU at Boise State Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 9/18/2012
Get used to seeing Brigham Young and Boise State on the same field as the schools, located just 380 miles apart, begin a 12-season home-and-home series Thursday night on the Broncos’ blue turf. It will be just the third meeting overall between the former Mountain West rivals, with the last coming in 2004. Of course, BYU is now an independent in football, while Boise State is leaving the MWC for the Big East in 2013.
NFL Week 2 Additional Special Betting Props and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/14/2012
Did you know that the 32 teams in the NFL combined for 791 points in Week 1, the second-most points in a week in league history? The record is 837 in Week 12 of 2008. Five clubs – the Jets, Ravens, Bears, Falcons and Redskins topped the 40-point mark. Never on an opening week has that many teams scored at least 40. Atlanta doing so wasn’t a huge shocker with all that skill position talent. But the Jets, Ravens and Bears used to be defensive teams and the Redskins started a rookie quarterback. Yeah, the NFL is now an offensively-driven league.
NFL Predictions: Lions at 49ers Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/13/2012
There are a lot of things that will be a factor in the outcome of the Lions and 49ers battle for early NFC supremacy on Sunday night in San Francisco. One thing that isn’t a factor despite the press it is getting, though, is the contrived rivalry between these coaches.
College Football Picks: Notre Dame at Michigan State Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 9/12/2012
I wanted to preview what once looked like a big Alabama-Arkansas showdown in the SEC West this week. If anything, the Hogs’ shocking home upset to Louisiana-Monroe made this week’s game more interesting from Arkansas’ perspective. But it’s still not clear if Hogs all-SEC quarterback Tyler Wilson will play due to a head injury that cost him the second half of last week’s game. Can’t make an informed choice without knowing if Wilson will play.
Weekly Philadelphia Eagles Betting Picks: Week 2 vs. Ravens
by David Schwab - 9/12/2012
The Baltimore Ravens will pay a visit to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday afternoon to square off against Philadelphia in the Eagles home opener. The game is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast locally on CBS. This betting preview is part of an ongoing series that started with Game 1 of the preseason where I take an in-depth look at each and every Eagles game this year and offer a free NFL pick using Doc’s Sports Unit Betting System. The point is to show that specialization can be a successful sports betting strategy.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/12/2012
The Ferringo 15 college football power rankings aremy profit/power rankings. They are a ranking of the 15 teams I feel currently have the most value in college football betting. It is a not merely a reward for past achievement at the window, but more a total overview of past, present, and future projectedachievement against the spread.
College Football Picks: Houston at UCLA Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 9/11/2012
One of the biggest surprises of the 2012 season so far certainly has to be at UCLA. Already, head coach Jim Mora Jr. has to be on a short list for National Coach of the Year and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone among the leaders for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach. When UCLA opened with a blowout of Rice, it was met with yawns. But now the Bruins are media darlings following a 36-30 upset of Nebraska last Saturday. That was enough to land UCLA at No. 23 in this week’s AP poll, the first time the school has been ranked in four years.
Thursday College Football Predictions: Rutgers at South Florida Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/11/2012
Most pundits tabbed Louisville as the clear Big East favorite this year with West Virginia off to the Big 12, and pretty much all of them thought that Rutgers and South Florida would be the Cardinals’ biggest challenge in the conference. Thus, Thursday night’s Big East opener in Tampa could eventually decide whether either of these teams lands in a BCS bowl. Rutgers gets to host Louisville later this season, while the Bulls will have to travel to Kentucky.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 3
by David Schwab - 9/11/2012
The betting public definitely loves the marquee matchups any given week when it comes to betting on college football, but I like sifting through the rocks in search of a few “diamonds in the rough” by wagering on a couple of games from the mid-major conferences. These “under the radar” matchups are often easier to handicap and a great way to supplement your overall betting strategy with a few low-unit plays.
NFL Odds: Steelers at Broncos Betting Predictions and Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/6/2012
Football is the ultimate team sport, but on Sunday night in Denver it will be all about one man. Some guy named Peyton will be back on the field after a forced year off due to injury. Not only that, but the guy who was identified with one team more than anyone other than Tom Brady or Ray Lewis is now on a different team in a different time zone.
College Football Picks: Oklahoma State at Arizona Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 9/6/2012
As will be the case all season here at Doc’s Sports, I will preview one of the last-starting NCAA games of the week, and because the midnight EST Lamar-Hawaii game Saturday isn’t all that exciting (and, you know, has no line) it’s an Oklahoma State-Arizona look in Week 2.
College Football Power Rankings: Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/5/2012
The opening weekend of college football betting was another strong start for the Ferringo 15. Our teams went 8-4 against the spread to get us off to a profitable start. The Ferringo 15 college football power rankings are my profit/power rankings. They are a ratings list of the 15 teams I feel currently have the most value in college football betting. It is a culmination of past, present, and future projected achievement against the spread.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 1 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/5/2012
The 2012 NFL regular season gets underway tonight with the Dallas Cowboys paying a visit to MetLife Stadium to square-off against the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants in a classic NFC East showdown. This matchup sets up as a defensive battle that should probably stay “under” the total, but I am turning to Sunday’s slate of games to uncover this week’s top three plays on the total line.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 2
by David Schwab - 9/5/2012
The 2012 college football season got off to a thrilling start last week with some shocking upsets and close calls for some of the big boys in the major conferences, but I decided to focus my attention on the tremendous value that was found in a few mid-major games that were way under the radar in Week 1. Unfortunately, I came up short with one win against two losses. However, it’s back to the drawing board for this week’s games.
College Football Picks: Washington at LSU Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 9/4/2012
It was a tough call this week in picking the marquee Saturday game to preview. No. 2 Southern Cal could have a bit of a test traveling cross country to face Syracuse at MetLife Stadium. No. 19 Michigan looks to bounce back from being embarrassed by Alabama and has to deal with an Air Force attack that is dangerous with only a week to prepare. And Texas A&M and Missouri make their SEC debuts vs. Florida and Georgia, respectively.
Thursday College Football Predictions: Pittsburgh at Cincinnati Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/4/2012
Can the ACC revoke its invitation to the University of Pittsburgh? Obviously not, as the Panthers will head to that conference from the Big East (along with Syracuse) for next season. But already things look rather grim for first-year head coach Paul Chryst after his Panthers (as 18.5-point favorites) were stunned 31-17 by FCS school Youngstown State in their opener on Saturday. And it was no fluke as Youngstown State never trailed, outgained Pitt and held the ball for more than 10 minutes longer.
NFL Picks: Cowboys at Giants Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 9/3/2012
These two rivals are serious contenders for the NFC East this year — as they are almost every year — so this would be a big game in any situation. The particular circumstances here only add to the excitement. For starters, this is the first game of the NFL season, so it marks the end of the long, almost interminable wait for real football action for fans and bettors. It’s also the first real game the Giants have played since their surprising Super Bowl Championship, so it the first chance for fans to properly welcome them home.
