College Football Power Rankings: the Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/19/2011
1. Wisconsin (5-0-1) –The wave has already started to go the other way against the Badgers. They are facing inflated odds this week against Michigan State and a lot of sharks are circling that game. There is a heavy reverse line movement on this game and the number has taken a big dip. But Wisconsin is still 8-0 ATS against the Big Ten and they are 15-5-1 ATS over their last 21 games. However, they are just 3-7 ATS as a conference road favorite of over a touchdown. I may not be playing on Russ Wilson and the Badgers this weekend, but I sure as hell am not going to be betting against them.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 7 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 10/19/2011
Defense stepped up to the plate last week in the NFL as 10 of the 13 games stayed ‘under’ the total. This was in sharp contrast to the previous week when nine of the 13 games went ‘over’ the total. Fortunately, we have been able to stay ahead of the curve all season long as for the sixth-straight week we were correct on two-of-three of our top predictions for NFL totals betting, bringing our year-to-date record to 12-6.
NFL Picks: Bears vs. Buccaneers Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/18/2011
One could argue that the Chicago Bears have an unfair advantage over the other 31 NFL teams and that the Tampa Bay Bucs are at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the league. Why? This Sunday’s game between the Bears and Bucs is the NFL’s annual matchup in London, and I can guarantee you that the crowd will be pro-Bears because they are simply a more recognizable name across the pond and their fans certainly travel much better than those of the Bucs.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 8
by David Schwab - 10/17/2011
The first BCS rankings were released this past Sunday and while LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma dominate all the talk at the top of the list, the mid-major conferences have two representatives with Boise State at No.5 and Houston at No. 19. When it comes to college football handicapping matchups in the mid-major conferences, there is always value to be found, as these games tend to be less influenced by the betting public than the heavily publicized contests in the major conferences.
NASCAR Betting: Bank of America 500 Odds and Predictions
by Christopher G. Shepard - 10/14/2011
Stock car investors should keep in mind that Johnson leads all active drivers with six wins at CMS, yet he hasn’t won at Charlotte since 2009 when he won from the pole. And that’s the last time a pole-sitter has won this race. There have been eight season sweeps at Charlotte; including every season from 2004-07.
College Football Power Rankings: the Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/12/2011
The Ferringo 15 College Football Power Rankings is my own unique twist on the obsessive ranking systems that have dominated the sport for nearly a century. The Ferringo 15 is my Profit-Power Rankings; a rating of the 15 teams that I think hold the most value in college football betting at the moment and it is a reflection of past, present, and projected future achievement against the spread in college football betting.
Hawaii at San Jose State Predictions and College Football Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 10/12/2011
ESPN must be less than thrilled with this game. After a few good games in a row on Friday nights they have one that, on the surface at least, isn’t the most compelling pairing ever. These two teams are a long way from relevant nationally, and at least one won’t be a big factor in their own conference.
NFL Picks: Cowboys at Patriots Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/11/2011
For the second week in a row, the New England Patriots are in the NFL spotlight with the marquee game, with the Pats hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the Fox Game of the Week. I’d like to call it a potential Super Bowl preview, but it’s doubtful the Cowboys hold up their end of the bargain since they never really do.
College Football Predictions: USC at Cal Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 10/11/2011
It’s not the best Thursday night ESPN matchup of the season this week when two teams who may not even go bowling, USC and California, meet in a Pac-12 game. This one is at AT&T Park in San Francisco, home of the Giants (Cal’s stadium is undergoing renovations).
NASCAR Betting: Hollywood Casino 400 Odds and Predictions
by Christopher G. Shepard - 10/7/2011
NASCAR investors looking for an edge on Sunday should keep in mind that there have been 11 races at Kansas. Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart have won twice at Kansas, but eight different drivers have recorded victories overall. Jimmie Johnson won from the pole in 2008 and leads all active drivers with three poles at Kansas. The only time Gordon has not finished in the top-ten was in 2004 (13th) and 2006 (39th). Four of 11 races at Kansas have been won on fuel mileage. Brad Keselowski won the June race with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. a close second. Biffle is this race’s defending champion.
NFL Picks: Jets at Patriots Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/5/2011
Have the boisterous New York Jets (2-2) been humbled? Usually in the week leading up to facing the Patriots, all you hear is plenty of hot air coming from Rex Ryan and Co. That’s the type of atmosphere Rex Ryan has created in New York. But off back-to-back losses, it’s rather quiet in New York right now – other than former Jets legend Joe Namath, that is.
NASCAR Betting Picks: AAA 400 Odds and Predictions
by Christopher G. Shepard - 9/30/2011
Tony Stewart made up for a winless regular season by winning the first two Sprint Cup Chase races, while five-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson is in 10th place, 29 points behind ‘Smoke’ as NASCAR heads to Dover International Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 2, for the AAA 400, the third race of the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup.
NFL Predictions: Lions at Cowboys Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/28/2011
Well, I was two-thirds right about the Dallas Cowboys in their Monday night 18-16 win over the Washington Redskins. I expected the battered Cowboys to win and thought that Rob Ryan’s defense would fluster Rex Grossman and, thus, lead to an ‘under’ total, which was easily the case. Unfortunately, the Cowboys missed covering by a few points as they became the first team this season to win without scoring a touchdown.
College Football Power Rankings: the Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 9/28/2011
1. Georgia Tech (4-0) –I’m not sure that this team is underrated anymore, as they are double-digit conference road favorites and they are finally starting to get some national love. But until I see them fail to cover a number I suppose they have to stay No. 1. Count me among those that didn’t see this coming from this group. But their offensive execution, especially for such a young team, is just scary. Tech is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 as a road favorite and they are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 4 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/28/2011
It has been feast or famine with the ‘total’ bet in the first three weeks of the NFL regular season. Points were plentiful the first two weeks with 23 of the 32 games going ‘over’ the total. Week 3 saw a dramatic shift the other way with 10 of the 16 games staying ‘under’. For the third week in a row our ‘best bets’ stayed ahead of the curve to bring our year-to-date record to 6-3.
2011 NFL Power Rankings – Week 4
by Robert Ferringo - 9/27/2011
We are reaching the quarter-pole on the NFL regular season and I feel like it has already been a whirlwind in the land of NFL odds. The Bills, Lions, Raiders and Browns (combined: 10-2) are all charging ahead while the Eagles, Falcons, Bears and Colts (combined: 3-9) are barely treading water.

NFL Predictions: Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/21/2011
I don’t think it’s even close in Week 3: Green Bay at Chicago is the glamour game of the week – and the Fox national TV game -- as the NFL’s longest-running rivalry is renewed for the fourth time in almost exactly a calendar year (falls two days short). Of course last season, as every year, the clubs met in each other’s stadiums during the regular season, with each winning at home. And then Green Bay visited Chicago for the NFC Championship Game and won, 21-14, in a game that saw Bears QB Jay Cutler get socially barbequed for not playing through an injury in the second half.
NFL Totals Betting: Week 3 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/21/2011
The ‘over’ has clearly been the best play so far through the first two weeks on the NFL regular season. In the season openers, 12 of the 16 games went ‘over’ the total line. Last week was almost has high with 11 of 16 games going ‘over’ the total. This equates to 71.9 percent of the games so far exceeding the total line.
NFL Picks: Texans at Saints Predictions and Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/20/2011
For several years in a row I have been tempted to believe in the Texans heading into the season. They have lots of talent and it always seems like they are on the verge of a breakthrough. That breakthrough, of course, has never come.
