After reviewing some hot and cold streaks last week, let’s take a look at where the money is being made in regard to the game totals. As of now, Vegas leads the league in scoring, averaging an elite 4.70 GF/G, with Mark Stone leading the NHL in points (18) and Jack Eichel (16) joining him in the Top 5. As far as goaltending goes, the Dallas Stars lead the league, allowing just 1.89 GA/G and are the only team to allow less than 2 GA/G.

As we begin the third week of the regular season, we have begun to get some great stories, like surprise teams, as well as some reliable trends as teams approach 10 games played. We are now entering the third full week of the NHL season, which means it is time to look at some trends happening around the league. There have been a lot of surprises so far this season, as the Winnipeg Jets remain as the only undefeated team in the league, while the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche, and Edmonton Oilers have been embarrassing to watch so far. Some teams and players haven’t missed a beat, with the Dallas Stars going 5-1 to start the year, while Nikita Kucherov is leading the league with seven goals in five games.

Though they were severely hampered by injuries up and down the roster, the Golden Knights still managed to reach the playoffs as they clinched the second wild card spot with 98 points.

Last season was a wild one for the Vancouver Canucks, as they far exceeded expectations and quickly became the biggest surprise team in the NHL. Their 44 regulation wins were tied for the second most in the NHL, and they secured the Pacific Division as they finished with 109 points. They entered the postseason with high expectations, before two goalie injuries cut down their chances.
2024-25 Seattle Kraken Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

After making the playoffs with 100 points in 2022-23, the Seattle Kraken took a huge step back last year, finishing with just 81 points. They finished with a -19-goal differential while winning just 28 games in regulation, which was the fourth lowest mark in the Western Conference.

Last season was an ugly one for the San Jose Sharks from the get-go. They started the season in the worst way possible, losing 11 straight games with a -43-goal differential. This wasn’t the only long-term losing skid for San Jose. They also saw losing streaks of 12 and nine (two different times). Their 47 points and -150 goal differential were the worst marks in the NHL.
2024-25 Edmonton Oilers Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

Last season was a wild ride for the Edmonton Oilers and their fans. They started the season 1-9-1 before moving on from their head coach and goalie. After the changes, the team proceeded to go 27-6 over their next 33 games. Edmonton finished the year second in the Pacific Division with 104 points and a division leading +57 goal differential.
2024-25 Los Angeles Kings Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

For the third season in a row, the Los Angeles Kings were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers. In 2021-22, they were eliminated in seven games, in 2022-23, they lost in six, and last season they were knocked out in just five games. They went down in five games with a -9-goal differential.
2024-25 Calgary Flames Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

The Calgary Flames were about as average as you can be last season, as they finished with 81 points, going 38-39-5, posting a -18-goal differential, and finishing fifth in the Pacific Division. They finished 17 points out of the playoff picture after ending the season on a 7-13 skid. Calgary joined Winnipeg, Vancouver, and New Jersey as the only teams to not pick up a shootout win last season.
2024-25 Anaheim Ducks Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

The Anaheim Ducks finished ahead of just the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks for the 2023-24 season. They finished with just 59 points and a -91-goal differential. The Ducks were worse at home than on the road, as they tallied just 27 of their points on home ice. Anaheim also allowed 295 goals last season, which was the third most in the NHL.

The Winnipeg Jets had an incredible end to their regular season, moving into and finishing in second in the Central Division. They won their last eight games heading into the playoffs, carrying all kinds of momentum. They took Game 1 against the Avalanche but did not win another game, ultimately losing the series in five games. Overall, they finished with 110 points, which was the fourth most in the NHL.
2024-25 Utah Hockey Club Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

Last season, the Utah Hockey Club -- or the Arizona Coyotes -- were terrible in their final season in Arizona. They finished with just 77 points on a -18-goal differential, finishing ahead of just the Chicago Blackhawks in the Central Division. Despite making some improvements last season, the Coyotes averaged just 4,600 fans per game. This was dead last in the league and nearly 9,000 less than the Winnipeg Jets (31st).

After posting a 92-point season last year, the St. Louis Blues fell short of the playoff picture for the second year in a row. The Blues struggled on the road last season, going just 18-19-4 away from home ice while finishing with a -11-goal differential. Despite their average play throughout the season, they dominated the Pacific Division, going 16-5-3 against their Western Conference counterparts.
2024-25 Nashville Predators Predictions and Odds to Win Stanley Cup Finals

Last season was a good one for Nashville, as they exceeded expectations, reached the playoffs, and played competitively against the Canucks in the first round. The Predators secured the first wild card spot, as they finished with 99 points thanks to a hot streak to end the season. From February 17th to the end of the season, the Preds went 20-5-3, giving them a huge boost into the playoff picture.

The Minnesota Wild failed to make the playoffs last season after finishing with a 39-33-10 record (87 points). They finished 11 points behind Vegas for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Their season was plagued by horrendous goaltending at the start of the year, and they were not great on the road, going 19-18-4. They struggled against their Central Division counterparts as they went just 9-14-3.

Last year, the Dallas Stars proved just how strong they could be. They finished second in the league in points with 113 points, one behind the Rangers, who recorded 114. Their +64-goal differential was the best in the Western Conference and second in the NHL behind the Panthers +68 mark. They were one of the best teams on the road last season, finishing with a road record of 26-10-5.

The Colorado Avalanche once again had a tremendous season for 2023-24 and went on a run in the playoffs. They finished with 107 points and clinched the final guaranteed spot in the Central Division. They dominated in the first round of the playoffs, knocking off the Winnipeg Jets in five games and taking the series with a +13-goal differential.
