Jordan Spieth Odds to Win the 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/13/2014
Jordan Spieth has made quite a name for himself, especially since the 20 year old quit school and became a professional, yet he had no official PGA Tour status less than 16 months ago. Spieth turned pro in late 2012 after leaving Texas during the middle of his sophomore season and is now one of the favorites to win the 2014 Masters. The young golfer must still pinch himself every morning just to make sure his whirlwind ride into the upper-echelon of golf is real.
Tiger Woods Odds to Win the 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 3/11/2014
Now that an especially bad winter appears to be largely in the rear-view mirror for much of the American Midwest and Northeast, that means it's time for golf fans there to start dreaming of getting on the course again. It's part of the reason why the Masters is so popular in those areas -- it's the first sign of spring (azaleas and all), and all the amateur duffers know they will be back on the links soon as well.
Rory McIlroy Odds to Win 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/11/2014
The 2014 Masters may be a place of redemption for one of golf’s biggest stars—the question, however, is which one? We all know the issues and pressure surrounding Tiger Woods, but the PGA’s “next big thing”, Rory McIlroy, has quietly gone winless in the tour since 2012 and struggled through a disappointing 2013 campaign that saw him walk off the course at the Honda Classic.
Golf Handicapping: Phil Mickelson
by Trevor Whenham - 7/23/2013
Phil Mickelson has had a remarkable two weeks — and that’s an understatement. A guy who has always struggled on links courses showed he was serious about shedding that reputation with his win in the Scottish Open. Then he went out and put together one of the most impressive final rounds in Open Championship history to capture his fifth major. It was all wildly-impressive and a clear sign that Mickelson isn’t done yet.
Betting Tiger Woods at the 2013 British Open
by Trevor Whenham - 7/17/2013
Heading into the Open Championship this week, Tiger Woods presents a real handicapping puzzle. On one hand he is the best golfer we have ever seen, and he has four wins this year to show that he is still dangerous. On the other hand, his major tournaments have been rough this year. The controversy surrounding the illegal drop at the Masters cost him two strokes and likely some focus.
Top Props of the Week: 2013 Open Championship Odds and Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 7/16/2013
The third major of the 2013 professional golf season gets underway this week at Muirfield in Scotland. First-round action is set to begin on Thursday in the Open Championship, which is commonly referred to as the British Open.
Golf Odds and Predictions: John Deere Classic
by Alan Matthews - 7/10/2013
With the British Open up next, most of the big-name players are already overseas working on their games in the unique weather/links conditions. Thus, only six of the world's Top 30 are playing the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill this week. The past four champions of this event are teeing it up, but that's just two guys.
Golf Odds and Predictions: Greenbrier Classic
by Alan Matthews - 7/3/2013
This week the Tour moves to the Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. This is a pretty new event, only around since 2010. That year, it played incredibly easy with Stuart Appleby closing with the fifth and most recent 59 in PGA Tour history to finish at 258.
Golf Odds and Predictions: AT&T National
by Alan Matthews - 6/26/2013
Now the pros move on to the AT&T National held at Congressional outside Washington D.C., the course that hosted the 2011 U.S. Open when Rory McIlroy won in record-setting fashion. With Woods and Rose out, just two of the Top 10 are here: Adam Scott and Brandt Snedeker.
Betting on Golfers Not Named Tiger Woods
by Trevor Whenham - 5/30/2013
We are in the era of Tiger Woods. He’s playing so well, and is so visible, that he is the only guy most casual golf bettors are interested in betting in. He has a very good chance to win every time he starts a tournament, but he’s not unbeatable. When he is this dominant that means that other guys are going to be at higher odds than they normally would — and that means that there is value to be found.
Golf Betting Advice: How to Deal with Tiger’s Dominance
by Trevor Whenham - 5/23/2013
Breaking news — Tiger Woods is really good at golf. For quite a while injuries and general stupidity seemed determined to make it so that we would never again see how good he can be. This year, however, he is back to being just as dominant as ever.
PGA Tour Golf Handicapping: Rory McIlroy Struggling
by Trevor Whenham - 3/5/2013
A few months ago, Rory McIlroy was on top of the world. He won his second major last year, and then he went on to win the money titles on both the European Tour and the PGA. He parlayed that into a massive contract with Nike. He wasn’t quite ready to be the next Tiger, but at this point he was bigger than the great one has been in a long time.
European Tour Picks: Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/15/2013
After going 0-for-2 in picking winners of the first two PGA Tour events of the season in Hawaii, I’m glad the Tour is starting the California Swing this week with the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation at PGA West in La Quinta. It’s a solid field led by Phil Mickelson in his 2013 debut. And Lefty usually fares well on the California Swing.
Golf Odds and Predictions: Dubai World Championship Props and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 11/20/2012
As I predicted, Rory McIlroy suffered a major emotional letdown last week in Hong Kong after winning the European Tour’s money list title the week before in Singapore. McIlroy missed the cut at the UBS Hong Kong Open after rounds of 73-72. You could see that coming in the way McIlroy was talking leading into the event. McIlroy missing the Top 10 paid out at a nice +155.
Golf Odds and Predictions: 2012 British Open Championship
by Alan Matthews - 7/17/2012
With all due respect to the PGA Championship, to me the Masters, U.S. Open and British Open all stand out much more significantly than the year’s final major. At the Masters, it signals the start of golf season and seeing all those azaleas in bloom reminds those stuck in cold climates that spring is here. The U.S. Open means it’s summertime and it’s great to watch that tournament because it’s usually so tough that it makes professionals look like you and me out there at times.
2012 British Open Golf Betting Props with Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 7/17/2012
The oldest major championship in golf arrives this weekend at Royal Lytham St. Anne in England for the 141st Open Championship – don’t you dare refer to it as the “British Open” if you are heading across the pond by chance. As I do here at Doc’s with all big tournaments, I will take a look first at some interesting prop options among the hundreds of choices at Bovada for the third major of the year.
PGA Tour Golf Odds and Predictions: 2012 AT&T National
by Alan Matthews - 6/28/2012
Some decent results picking last week’s Travelers Championship, although I certainly didn’t see Marc Leishman’s victory coming. I went with Ryan Moore and he played well after Thursday but that opening 72 doomed him to a T47 finish. I hit on Matt Kuchar at +125 to finish inside the Top 10 and barely missed on Hunter Mahan to do the same (missed by a shot). Also hit on Zach Johnson (-200) and Webb Simpson (-165) missing a Top-10 finish, but missed on Bubba Watson to do so.
Post US Open Majors/Tiger Woods Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 6/20/2012
With golf’s Grand Slam season now halfway in the books following Webb Simpson’s win at the US Open on Sunday at Olympic, it’s time to revisit some of the season-long props on major wins for some of golf’s biggest names at Bovada and make some betting predictions.
PGA Tour Golf Odds and Predictions: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial
by Alan Matthews - 5/23/2012
My predicted winner of last week’s Byron Nelson Championship unfortunately was South African Louis Oosthuizen, who bombed out with rounds of 73-72 to miss the cut. But I did hit on two Top-10 prop bets: Jason Day finished T9 and paid out at +165 with that result. And Matt Kuchar finished outside the Top 10, which seemed inevitable as he was worn out from winning the Players Championship. Kuchar paid at -140 on that prop.
2012 PGA Tour Money List Futures Odds and Predictions
by David Schwab - 5/8/2012
This week marks the start of what is often thought of as professional golf’s fifth major; the PGA’s Players Championship from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Besides claiming the most prestigious title that is not one of four coveted Majors, the player that wins this week will make a major move on the PGA Money List with a generous share of this tournament’s $9.5 million purse, which is the highest on the Tour.
