USC Football: How Does Lane's Loss Impact Trojans?
by T.O. Whenham - 10/2/2013
I am going to miss Lane Kiffin. Not as a coach — he was truly terrible at that. And not as a recruiter — he was far better at that than he should have been, and the Trojans this year featured three young stars that seemed destined for my beloved Wolverines at one point or another before Kiffin stole them. Why I’ll miss him is that no matter what is going on in college football, Kiffin always ensured that things weren’t boring.
American Athletic Conference Weekly Betting Report (Plus Free Pick)
by Dave Schwab - 10/1/2013
After five weeks of mainly nonconference play, the 10 teams in the newly formed American Athletic Conference are ready to begin their quest for the first-ever AAC title. It has been a great ride for me so far with my weekly AAC pick of the week. Despite being on the wrong side of SMU in a 31-point loss to TCU this past Saturday, I am still up $1070 on the year with the use of Doc’s Sports Unit Betting System.
NCAA Football Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 9/30/2013
Clearly the story of the college football weekend is at Southern Cal, which was pounded by Arizona State on Saturday. Trojans AD Pat Haden promptly fired head coach Lane Kiffin about the second Kiffin stepped off the team plane, literally. Haden didn't even let Kiffin ride home on the team bus from the airport. Harsh but funny if you are anti-Kiffin, which it sure seems many people are in this world. It is amazing how this guy keeps upgrading jobs despite really never doing anything to deserve it.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: UNLV Rebels Week 5
by Aaron Smith - 9/26/2013
We’re back for the fifth edition of the weekly college football mid-major betting report. This year the team in focus is the UNLV Rebels. The Rebels have found some positive momentum with two consecutive wins in the last two weeks. This week, they’ll be back on the road where they have lost 23 straight games. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Twitter feeds, beat writers, and press conferences from the program. By becoming an expert on the UNLV Rebels, I hope to show how specialization is one of the most profitable sports betting strategies.
NCAA Football Handicapping: Michigan Looks Shaky Despite Solid Record
by Trevor Whenham - 9/26/2013
It would be tough for anyone to be more frustrated with a team off to a 4-0 start in college football than the legions of fans are by the start Michigan has had. They haven’t lost, but they have played two of the worst games in their recent history in wins over Akron and UConn. They were favored by a total of 54 points in the two games and managed to win by just seven combined points — while coming close to losing both. They did pretty much everything poorly in the home loss to Akron and didn’t seem to learn from it on the road trip to Connecticut. Ugh.
College Football Betting Preview: This Week in the Big Ten
by Darin Zank - 9/25/2013
Big Game time comes quick in the Big Ten this season, considering the Legends Division could be decided Saturday when Ohio State takes on Wisconsin at the Horseshoe (8 p.m. ET, ABC). This is expected to be one of the best games of the season in the conference, and betting handle should be enormous for this one.
College Football Handicapping: Unbeaten Non-AQ Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 9/24/2013
With the end of the BCS era, we are likely about to see the end of one of the great sub-plots in sports — the BCS buster. We have often seen teams from outside of the six power conferences not only force their way into a BCS bowl game but shine once they get there. Boise State is the poster child for all BCS busters, but Utah, TCU and Northern Illinois have done their part as well.
College Football Handicapping: Differences in Betting Conference Play
by Trevor Whenham - 9/24/2013
We see conference games every weekend of the college football season, but in the first four weeks of the year they are relatively rare. By the last week of September, though, conference games become the norm. For bettors, making a successful shift from nonconference action to conference games requires some adjustments. Here are five differences between nonconference and conference play, and what they mean for bettors.
American Athletic Conference Weekly Betting Report (Plus Free Pick)
by Dave Schwab - 9/24/2013
The American Athletic Conference just completed the fourth week of its first season of existence in college football this past Saturday, and it has been a great ride so far with a perfect 4-0 record in my AAC pick of the week. This past week I had Houston over Rice as a three-point neutral-site favorite for three units using Doc’s Sports Unit Betting System.
NCAA Football Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 9/23/2013
One of the great things about betting, other than obviously winning some cash, is that it can turn a lousy game into something worth watching. And about the only reason I can think of regarding the previous week in college football is thank God for betting. Otherwise, it was one of the worst weeks in recent memory in terms of lopsided matchups. How bad? “ESPN GameDay” was at FCS school North Dakota State.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: UNLV Rebels Week 4
by Aaron Smith - 9/19/2013
We’re back for the fourth edition of the weekly college football mid-major betting report. This year the team in focus is the UNLV Rebels. The Rebels picked up their first win of the season last week, and they are looking to build some momentum this weekend. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Twitter feeds, beat writers, press conferences from the program. By becoming an expert on the UNLV Rebels, I hope to show how specialization is one of the most profitable sports betting strategies.
American Athletic Conference Weekly Betting Report (Plus Free Pick)
by Dave Schwab - 9/17/2013
No. 7 Louisville decided to make things a bit interesting this past Saturday in a 27-13 victory over Kentucky as a 12.5-point road favorite. By holding on to cover, the Cardinals boosted my AAC pick of the week record to a perfect 3-0. The AAC is a combination of what was left of the Big East and a number of teams from Conference USA. More importantly, this new conference should continue to offer a solid opportunity to make some cash with the use of Doc’s Sports Unit Betting System all season long.
College Football Handicapping: the Success at Texas Tech
by Trevor Whenham - 9/17/2013
One of the most impressive stories of the college football season so far has been the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. After an ugly end to the Mike Leach era and the predictably-underwhelming Tommy Tuberville tenure, the team needed to hit a home run with their next head coaching hire. By bringing in Kliff Kingsbury, perhaps the biggest star in the history of the program and the offensive coordinator who guided Johnny Manziel to his Heisman trophy last year, they may have done just that.
NCAA Football Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 9/16/2013
Look at some of the lopsided games on this week's college football schedule: Florida A&M at No. 4 Ohio State, Florida International at No. 7 Louisville, North Texas at No. 9 Georgia, Idaho State at No. 17 Washington, Maine at No. 18 Northwestern, Bethune-Cookman at No. 8 Florida State, Savannah State at No. 16 Miami, Texas State at No. 25 Texas Tech, New Mexico State at No. 13 UCLA.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: UNLV Rebels Week 3
by Aaron Smith - 9/12/2013
It’s time for the third installment of the mid-major betting report. For this year’s mid-major betting report I am following the UNLV Rebels. The Rebels have had an ugly start to the 2013 season. After three straight two-win seasons, this year’s UNLV team was expected to do more, but so far it’s been more of the same. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Twitter feeds, beat writers, press conferences from the program. By becoming an expert on the UNLV Rebels, I hope to show how specialization is one of the most profitable sports betting strategies.
College Football Handicapping: Teams with Inflated Hype
by Trevor Whenham - 9/11/2013
More than any other sport, hype runs wild in football. It’s because we have so much time to fill between games — time to think about what we saw and magnify the significance of it. Hype can particularly run wild in college football because, with so many teams, it is impossible to know each team well, and we have to rely on the opinions of others.
College Football Handicapping: Quietly Dangerous Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 9/11/2013
As the college football season gets rolling, one of my favorite things to do — and most profitable activities — is to keep an eye out for teams that are better than the public thinks they are. With so many teams out there, it is easy for one to fall through the cracks. It could be that the team doesn’t play in a major conference or that it does but it plays deep in the shadows of the major programs that dominate the action.
College Football Handicapping: USC Up to Old Tricks
by Trevor Whenham - 9/10/2013
Last year the USC Trojans were ranked first in the polls heading into the season. They lost the third game of the season at Stanford, feasted on cupcakes until they were 6-1, then they lost five of their last six games to limp to a pathetic 7-6 record. Things were so bad that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin didn’t want to work with his son anymore. Yet somehow, Lane Kiffin managed to keep his job through the whole debacle.
College Football Handicapping: Can Texas Bounce Back from Humiliating Loss?
by Trevor Whenham - 9/10/2013
I’m a diehard Michigan fan. The news that Texas head coach Mack Brown had made the decision to replace defensive coordinator Manny Diaz with Greg Robinson, then, was pretty much the funniest thing I have ever heard. Sure, Texas has horrible defensive woes — they allowed 550 rushing yards against a BYU team that isn’t exactly an elite rushing force.
American Athletic Conference Weekly Betting Report (Plus Free Pick)
by Dave Schwab - 9/9/2013
I was always fond of the Big East, but I am starting to love the new AAC after a 2-0 start has this season’s bankroll at +$700. After riding Cincinnati in Week 1, I cashed in on a three-unit play on Houston’s 22-13 victory over Temple as a three-point road favorite this past Saturday. This new conference, which is a combination of what was left of the Big East and a number of teams from Conference USA, should continue to offer some solid opportunities all season long to make some cash with the use of Doc’s Sports Unit Betting System.
