College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 7
by David Schwab - 10/10/2011
Most college teams have already played five or six games this season so the oddsmakers now have been able to compile more than enough information to really fine-tune the college football odds for the upcoming games. Fortunately, there is always value to be found in the spreads, especially when it comes to matchups in the mid-major conferences. These lines tend to stay true as these games are much less influenced by the betting public than the marquee contests in the major conferences.
College Football Handicapping: Teams With Betting Value
by T.O. Whenham - 10/7/2011
Earlier in the week I took a look at college football teams that are getting more respect than they have earned so far. Today let’s look at the opposite. Here are four teams that have been better than either their ranking or their record would indicate so far this year. Knowing when a team is better than most people think they are is a very valuable thing for college football handicappers. Without further ado:
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: Rice Owls Week 6
by Aaron Smith - 10/6/2011
The college football season has already reached Week 6. The mid-major report is back once again with another look at the Rice Owls. Rice was selected at random as the team I would follow this year as part of this mid-major report special series. Through the year I will closely follow the Owls in hopes of gaining an edge on the books.
Oklahoma at Texas Predictions and Red River Rivalry Odds and Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 10/5/2011
Before we get into the preview, I have to say one thing — it is a total travesty that Oklahoma does not come into this game as the top-ranked team in the AP poll. Oklahoma has done everything asked of them — including taking care of business in impressive fashion in Tallahassee.
College Football Predictions: Boise State at Fresno State Odds and Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 10/5/2011
For the last decade this was a conference game in the WAC. Starting next year it will be a conference game in the Mountain West. Thanks to the seemingly endless conference shuffles, though, this year it will be a nonconference game — just one of the strange quirks in the Boise State Broncos football schedule this year.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 6
by David Schwab - 10/5/2011
As the 2011 college football regular season reaches the halfway point, teams are now in the heart of their conference play. This familiarity between teams offers some tremendous value in the college football lines as it provides ample information to better handicap the games. This is especially helpful for matchups in the mid-major conferences that do not receive the anywhere near the level of attention from the betting public that the marquee games on the college football schedule do.
College Football Handicapping: Five Overrated Teams
by T.O. Whenham - 10/5/2011
We’re nearly halfway through the college football season already. As there is every season there are some teams that are getting more attention, more love in the rankings, and more hype than their play has justified. Here’s a look at five over-rated teams at this point in the college football season. This list can help you with your college football handicapping and to help spot weak college football odds.
College Football Picks: Cal at Oregon Betting Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/4/2011
If you want a reason other than for betting purposes to watch Thursday’s ESPN college football game, do it for the Oregon uniforms. The Ducks will unveil yet another new ensemble, and I’ve seen them. They are quite awesome. At least in a “retro there’s what looks like Donald Duck on the shoulder pads kind of way.”
Doc's Sports Weekly Big Ten Football Betting Report
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 10/4/2011
After the first week of Big Ten conference play, the Big Ten Leaders division is doing just that, leading. In cross-divisional games, teams from the Leaders Division, Illinois and Wisconsin picked up wins over Legends Northwestern and Nebraska while Michigan State of the Legends defeated Ohio State of the Leaders.
College Football Odds: Potential Trap Games Week 5
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 9/29/2011
Two teams are coming off an emotionally charged atmosphere in Week 4 and two teams are prepared to enter an emotionally charged atmosphere in Week 6. What happens in Week 5 is called a trap game both for LSU and West Virginia, who faced off in Week 4, Saturday night in front of a national television audience and for Texas and Oklahoma, two teams who will face off in Week 6 in front of a national television audience.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: Rice Owls Week 5
by Aaron Smith - 9/29/2011
We’re back with another installment of the mid-major report. Before the season, the Rice Owls were picked at a random to be the mid-major team of choice that I will follow all season long. I’ll be analyzing all the numbers from every game, following players and staff members on Twitter, and using reports from Rice beat writers to help gain an edge on the books.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 5
by David Schwab - 9/28/2011
After four weeks of action in this year’s college football season, there are only two schools from the mid-major conferences in the AP’s top 25; Boise State at No.4 and TCU at No.20. This lack of notoriety sometimes causes the betting public to forget about the hidden value that exists in some of the matchups between all the other quality teams from these conferences.
Nebraska at Wisconsin Predictions and College Football Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/27/2011
When was the last time that the Big Ten had a major game with national implications and attention that didn’t involve Michigan or Ohio State? It happens occasionally, but it’s certainly the exception. That’s what we have here, though, when No. 8 Nebraska travels to Madison to face No. 7 Wisconsin in the first meeting between the historic programs since 1974. Of course, it’s also the first time that Nebraska has ever played a Big Ten contest, and that’s another thing that is tough to wrap your mind around.
College Football Predictions: Utah State vs. BYU Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/27/2011
The Aggies and the Cougars meet on national TV on Friday night in the second most important in-state contest for each team. That’s not saying much since there are only three FBS teams in Utah, but the stakes are still high here. Both of these teams already have two losses, so neither can really afford another if they want to keep hopes of a decent bowl berth and a solid season alive.
College Football Picks: South Florida at Pitt Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/27/2011
Is there any doubt that the Big East Conference is the weakest of all the BCS conferences? For one thing, there’s only one Big East team remaining without a loss and that is No. 16 South Florida as the Bulls open conference play on Thursday night’s ESPN national TV game at Pittsburgh. And secondly, USF is the only team in the conference with a win over a ranked team so far this year – coming in the season opener over Notre Dame, which isn’t ranked any longer.
Doc's Sports Weekly Big Ten Football Betting Report
by T.O. Whenham - 9/27/2011
Nebraska vs. Wisconsin showdown - When was the last time that a mega-battle with serious national implications was played in the Big Ten and didn’t feature Michigan or Ohio State? It happens occasionally, but almost never with stakes this high.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: Rice Owls Week 4
by Aaron Smith - 9/22/2011
The weekly mid-major report focuses on the Rice Owls. The goal of this report is to help the average bettor realize that specialization can be a profitable strategy. Rice was picked at random at the start of the season as the team that I will follow all year long. I’ll be pouring through statistics from every game, reading reports from Rice beat writers, following the players on Twitter, and using information gathering method I can to learn more about this year’s version of the Rice Owls.
College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 4
by David Schwab - 9/21/2011
As the college football season starts to heat up with marquee matchups in the major conferences, the betting public sometimes forgets to tap into the tremendous value that exists in some of the games in the mid-majors. Each week we crunch the numbers in these ‘under the radar’ contests in an effort to mine this value out of the college football odds.
College Football Predictions: NC State at Cincinnati Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/20/2011
It’s a bit of a downer for this week’s Thursday night ESPN national TV game as, after getting ranked foes LSU and Mississippi State last week. This week it’s unranked North Carolina State and Cincinnati on the docket for this one. I can guarantee you one thing: There will be a ton more points scored by the Wolfpack and Bearcats than the 25 Tigers and Bulldogs managed.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Pitt Panthers Predictions and College Football Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/20/2011
This is a very different preview than I would have written for this game just a week ago. Going into last week’s contest the Irish were reeling. They had lost two in a row, they had collapsed in horrifying fashion against Michigan, and they had problems all over the field. It was like the ghost of Charlie Weis was coaching them still. While they didn’t answer all of the questions surrounding them last time out, their decisive win over Michigan State certainly eased the panic felt by fans and analysts at least a little bit.
