This Week in College Football Betting by the Numbers
by Adam Richard - 8/28/2012
I was hanging out with a couple friends of mine the other night and we got to talking about the big Boston and LA Dodgers trade (that was about to happen). My friend couldn’t believe that A) The Red Sox made the trade and B) That no other team claimed Adrian Gonzalez. Later on that evening, one of my friends got a phone number from pretty girl named Violet. Later still, I received the tab for our severely discounted drinks thanks to my bartender friend.
College Football Betting Advice: Teams to Follow
by Robert Ferringo - 8/27/2012
The terms “overrated” and “underrated” get thrown around all the time in sports discussions. Most of the time these discussions are simply fodder for bar room arguments or used to create noise from the bobblehead media. But the reality is that it is very difficult to keenly and accurately assess a team’s actual performance against their expectations, which can be more ambiguous.
College Football Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 8/26/2012
Welcome to the first NCAA week-ahead glance of the 2012 regular season, a weekly preview of the week to come in college football. Hopefully I will be able to provide you with a few things you might not otherwise have known when placing those NCAA bets.
Big East Football Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 8/23/2012
Want more proof of the talent discrepancy between the Big East and the other five BCS conferences? Take a look at Bovada’s 2012 Heisman Trophy odds. You see plenty of players from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC. There is one betting option from the Big East: Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater at 150/1 (17/1 to finish in the Top 3).
2012 Landry Jones College Football Betting Props and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 8/21/2012
The disappointment of the Oklahoma Sooners’ 2011 season, when OU was the preseason No. 1 team and odds-on national title favorite, had one silver lining: Quarterback Landry Jones is back for his senior season. Once star receiver Ryan Broyles went down with a season-ending injury last November, Jones wasn’t the same quarterback. In OU’s final three games of the regular season, Jones had no touchdowns and five picks as the Sooners’ BCS bowl hopes went up in flames with losses at Baylor and Oklahoma State.
Denard Robinson College Football Betting Props and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 8/20/2012
Bovada has unveiled several college football player props, and I’ll take a look at some of the biggest names over the next two weeks ahead of the Aug. 30 opening night. Today, it’s Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, as well as an early look at the Wolverines’ huge opener at Cowboys Stadium against Alabama.
College Football Handicapping: Conference Changes
by T.O. Whenham - 8/16/2012
As seems to be the case every year nowadays, we come into this college football season with a lot of teams changing their conference affiliations. Those changes can have a big impact on every aspect of those teams — who they play, the types of teams they face, how they can recruit, what is expected of them, and so on. That means that bettors need to pay close attention to the changes and the impact they can have, so they are betting on what teams are now and not what they would have been before the move.
Handicapping College Football Coaching Changes
by T.O. Whenham - 8/15/2012
There are a lot of high-profile, big-name coaches in new jobs this fall. Here’s a look at 11 of them and what we can reasonably expect from them in their first season with their new squad. Knowing how a rookie coach will perform is crucial to successful college football handicapping.
Preseason All-Americans Due for a Letdown
by T.O. Whenham - 8/15/2012
Here’s a bold prediction — Tyrann Mathieu is not going to be an all-American at the end of this season. The Honey Badger is out of football — at least temporarily — because he likes smoking pot more than he likes passing drug tests. He was on the Sports Illustrated Preseason all-America list, though. There likely won’t be any more players on that list who lose their position in such dramatic fashion. There are inevitably going to be several players, though, that just can’t hold onto their preseason position through the season. Here are five Preseason first-team all-America players who stand a good chance of not being on the list when the year ends:
College Football Betting: Predictions For Florida's "Other" Teams
by Vegas Sports Informer - 8/13/2012
Anytime you talk about college football in the state of Florida you are usually either a fan of the Florida Gators or the Florida State Seminoles. But wait a minute! There are two other college football teams in the state of Florida: the South Florida Bulls (USF) and the Central Florida Knights (UCF)!
Handicapping the Penn State Nittany Lions Football Team in 2012
by T.O. Whenham - 8/9/2012
This Penn State situation is like a train wreck — as much as I want to look away I just can’t. It’s a horrible and horribly-fascinating story from so many angles. As we get closer to the season and the story continues to evolve I can’t help but think about what this team faces, and what impact that will have from a betting perspective. Needless to say, that impact will be very significant.
College Football Handicapping: Even Top Teams have Issues
by T.O. Whenham - 8/9/2012
If you look closely enough, you can find reasons to be cautious or concerned about every highly-ranked and highly-regarded team in college football this year — and every year for that matter. There are some teams that have more immediate issues than others, though. And this year every team in the Top 10 has reasons to be concerned.
College Football Odds to Win Conference: Best Bets
by David Schwab - 8/8/2012
While most major sportbooks in the gaming industry have already released their futures odds for each of the major conferences for the upcoming college football season, 5Dimes has gone the extra mile by posting an elaborate collection of prop bets based on those futures odds.
College Football Handicapping: Examining Schedules Key to Profits
by T.O. Whenham - 8/8/2012
College football teams need to be deep, talented and experienced to reach elite heights. As important, though, they need to have a schedule that can help them exhibit their strengths and avoid too many challenges. The schedule makers have the ability to make a team look and perform better than they are on paper, or they can crush the hopes and dreams of a promising team.
2012 Big East Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/2/2012
You can have the SEC. I will take the Big East. The SEC is a monolith in the world of college football. They dominate the headlines, they have cast a veil over the eyes of the fans and people who analyze it, and they dictate the conversation of everything from the National Championship to the Heisman Trophy.
2012-2013 Boise State Broncos Football Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 8/2/2012
Every team has to deal with departing players every year — it’s a fact of life in college football. It’s not often, though, that a team takes the hit that Boise State has taken. First off, their quarterback of the last four years, Kellen Moore, is gone. All he did was win 50 games in his career. They lost two players in the first round of the NFL Draft — running back Doug Martin and DE Shea McClellin.
2012 Pac-12 Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/1/2012
There is plenty of buzz on the Left Coast heading into this year’s Pac-12 season. Three talented, volatile coaches – Rich Rodriguez, Todd Graham and Mike Leach – have entered the fray and are looking to make their mark on the conference.
2012 Texas Longhorns Football Predictions and Big 12 Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 8/1/2012
The last two-plus years have been very hard to take for Longhorns’ fans. In 2009 they played in the National Championship game. They were in tough against Alabama no matter what, but the game ended almost before it started when Colt McCoy was hurt. That loss sent the program into a shocking spiral.
2012 Oklahoma State Cowboys Football Predictions and Big 12 Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 8/1/2012
Last year Oklahoma State lifted their program to a new level. The Cowboys won the Big 12 for the first time, they won the Fiesta Bowl, and they wound up ranked third in the country in the final polls. The trick now, though, is to prove that they can sustain their position as an elite program — and demonstrate that it wasn’t just a product of the talent they had at the time.
2012 TCU Horned Frogs Football Predictions and Big 12 Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 8/1/2012
For years now TCU has been begging for a chance to play with the big boys. They have made a good case that they deserve it as well with two BCS bowl appearances and a convincing Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. Now they are playing with the big boys, though, so they can no longer complain that they aren’t getting any respect. They also can’t enjoy feasting on conference weaklings — the Big 12 is small but fairly mighty.
