Ranking the College Football Conference Championship Games
by T.O. Whenham - 11/28/2012
With conference championships on tap in college football this weekend, that means that most of the regular season play is finished, and it’s a much lighter schedule than normal as result. The reduced workload leaves us time to do other important things — like ranking the six conference championship games to be played this week. I don’t care about their media exposure or general sexiness. All that matters to me is their attractiveness for bettors:
College Football Handicapping: Change Approach for Championship Games

In many ways conference championship games in college football are just like any of the other games that came before them in the 13 weeks of the college football regular season. In a few key ways, though, handicapping them is slightly different. Handicappers who consider these differences and how they might impact different games have an edge over those who ignore the differences. Here are six of those differences to ponder:

It’s time again for our weekly look back at the highs and lows of the college football week from a betting perspective — the last time we’ll be doing it this season. I’ll start out with a complaint about the most frustrating game I have watched in a very long time, and then hit on four more games that surely frustrated others almost as much.
College Football Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead

It’s the final week of college football’s regular season – outside of Army-Navy next Saturday – so it will be the final NCAA week look-ahead of the year, although you can certainly expect plenty of bowl previews and the like for the postseason.

If you like upsets, you absolutely loved last weekend’s college football action. The top two teams in the BCS Standings both went down, and the entire BCS rankings were shaken up in a way no one could have predicted. Oregon and Kansas State were the big losers of the week, and they are almost assuredly out of the title picture.

I don’t want to hate on Notre Dame, as it’s rather clichй. In fact, I used to like the Irish back in the day. But they are so freaking lucky. Notre Dame is atop the polls after stunning losses by Kansas State and Oregon on Saturday, and all the Irish have to do is win at Southern Cal this Saturday to guarantee themselves a spot in the National Championship Game.

We can’t look back on last weekend’s action without discussing the fall from grace of the top two ranked teams in the country. My theory is that both Kansas State and Oregon took bribes from the SEC after that conference faced the real possibility of not even being in the BCS Championship Game. Oregon was just much more subtle about throwing their game than the Wildcats were.
College Football Betting: Rivalry Games
by T.O. Whenham - 11/19/2012
One of the greatest things about college football is the rivalry games, and the weekend after Thanksgiving is typically full of the most bitter of rivalries. This year a shocking number of those rivalries have major implications on the National Championship and the rest of the BCS bowl picture. Here’s a look at seven rivalry games this week that can determine more than just bragging rights between hated rivals:

If you hadn’t heard of Johnny Manziel before last weekend, chances are you have heard of him by now. “Johnny Football,” as many now call him, led the Texas A&M Aggies to a huge upset of the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last weekend. Manziel was born in Tyler, Texas, and he was a high school football legend for Tivy High School. Now, Manziel is being talked about in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy. Some fans might get tired of it, but expect to hear a lot more about Manziel in the coming weeks!

Your new No.1 team in the human polls and National Championship favorite is Oregon (+120 on Sportsbook.ag) in the wake of Alabama’s stunning home loss on Saturday to “Johnny Football” and Texas A&M – a loss that could leave the SEC out of the national title game altogether.

In our weekly look back at the highs and lows of the last weekend in college football betting, we have isolated six games that had a particular ability to either thrill or frustrate depending upon which side you were on. They all turned around in the closing seconds, and they all raised some blood pressure in the process:

Last weekend was one of the best weekends a college football fan could ever hope for as far as highly-competitive games between top teams. The Alabama vs. LSU contest went right down to the wire, even though many expected the Crimson Tide to walk out of Baton Rouge with an easy win. There are quite a few fans who believe the Tigers should have won that game. No doubt both teams played at a very high level in that contest. Oregon ran through USC, 62-51, in a key win that kept their national title hopes alive.
College Football Predictions: Oregon State at Stanford Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 11/6/2012
It sure looks like Oregon is practically unbeatable in the Pac-12, if not nationally, but if either Oregon State or Stanford has any hope of representing the North Division in the Pac-12 title game it can’t afford a loss in Saturday’s showdown.

It was another crazy week in college football betting — just like pretty much every week seems to be in some way or another. What makes betting on the sport both so fun and so frustrating is that it finds different and strange way to be unpredictable each week. Here’s a look back at the highs and lows of the week in college football betting:

The big injury to keep an eye this week is clearly that of Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, but you’d probably have better luck getting truthful information out of North Korea than you would from KSU coach Bill Snyder. The scuttlebutt is that Klein suffered a concussion in Saturday’s victory over Oklahoma State. All Snyder would say Monday about Klein playing this week was: “Hope so. I hope they all play.”

As we turn the page from October and into November, only six college football teams remain unbeaten. In last week’s article, I wrote about the fact that there were likely to be several unbeaten teams fall right away. Last Saturday there were five unbeaten teams who tripped up. While the national media will spend most of the time worrying about who will be ranked ahead of who if they all end the season unbeaten, keep in mind that there will be plenty of opportunities for these teams to drop a game before the end of the regular season.

Does anyone honestly care who wins the Big Ten Championship Game this year? Because Ohio State and Penn State are ineligible to play in the conference title game, the Big Ten’s Leaders Division is a flat-out joke. It was presumed Wisconsin was the class of that eligible group, but then the Badgers went and lost at home to Michigan State on Saturday, 16-13, in overtime.

It’s time again for our weekly look at the highs and lows of this past week in college football from a betting perspective. There were some real soul-crushing results for bettors this week. Sadly, most of them worked out nicely for sportsbooks.
College Football Predictions: Mississippi State at Alabama Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/25/2012
It seems one of the Oregon schools has played in the final kickoff game every week so far this season, and I was tired of previewing them – plus, no doubt I will have to do the Ducks again next week at. USC -- so this week it’s Mississippi State-Alabama as the “late” Saturday preview. It’s technically only the third-latest starting game of the day, so forgive me.
Teams with a Real Shot at Winning BCS National Championship
by T.O. Whenham - 10/25/2012
With five more weeks of regular season contests and conference championship games left to play, a whole lot can change between now and the BCS Championship Game. Right now, though, there are five elite unbeaten teams remaining, and those teams have the best shot at making the big game.
