Oregon Ducks Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 7/9/2014
The Oregon Ducks entered the 2013 college football season with national title aspirations even though the squad was undertaking its first year without former head coach and offensive mastermind Chip Kelly. The Ducks, as we already know, did not win a national title last season, but the team stood pat as one of the premiere college football squads in the nation with only two losses on the year and was able to adjust and succeed under a new head coach.
Everett Golson Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/9/2014
It was good to be a Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan in 2012 with a National Championship-caliber team being led by a Heisman-hopeful quarterback. As we all remember, though, the Irish came up short to Alabama in that season’s BCS title game. However, optimism that they could make another run at a title in 2013 with quarterback Everett Golson leading the way still ran high in South Bend.
Nick Marshall Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/8/2014
The Auburn Tigers came into the 2013 football season as an afterthought in the stacked SEC after winning just three games the year before. Nick Marshall was handed the reins to the Tigers’ starting quarterback position as a junior college transfer and proceeded to lead the team all the way to the BCS Championship Game against Florida State.
Braxton Miller Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/3/2014
The Ohio State Buckeyes came into the 2013 season with extremely high expectations after going a perfect 12-0 straight up in Urban Meyer’s first year at the helm as head coach. They could not compete for the national title in 2012 because of NCAA sanctions, so the added excitement of winning a NCAA Championship also followed the Buckeyes into last year’s campaign.
Bryce Petty Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/3/2014
The Baylor Bears came into the 2013 college football season as 12/1 fifth-favorites to win the Big 12 Conference on Bovada’s futures odds list. They went on to claim the title with an 8-1 mark in conference play as part of an overall record of 11-2.
Todd Gurley Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/3/2014
Georgia running back Todd Gurley will come into the 2014 college football season as Bovada’s fifth-favorite to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy Award as the nation’s most outstanding player with 12/1 odds. The following is look at a few of the reasons he could definitely be worth a closer look if you decide to wager on him for this popular player prop bet.
Jameis Winston Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/2/2014
Following closely in the footsteps of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who in 2012 became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston kept this trend going by winning college football’s most outstanding player award last year in his first season with the Seminoles.
Marcus Mariota Odds to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy
by Dave Schwab - 7/2/2014
The Pac-12’s Oregon Ducks developed into an offense power under the guidance of Chip Kelly in recent years, but after he decided to ply his trade in the NFL after the 2012 season, there were some question marks as to which direction this program might head with Mark Helfrich at the helm.
Auburn Tigers Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 7/1/2014
The Auburn Tigers were a quarter away from winning the 2013 college football National Championship and finishing off one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in sports history. In 2012 the Tigers produced their worst season in the school’s 60-year history by going winless in SEC play and seemed to be at the beginning of a long rebuilding process.
Alabama Crimson Tide Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 6/26/2014
The Alabama Crimson Tide may still be feeling like last season was the year that got away. The squad, who was chasing a third straight national title and fourth in five years, had won its first 11 games of the season before heading into its SEC showdown with rival Auburn. The defending national champ carried a seven-point lead into the final minute of the game and had all but punched its ticket to the SEC championship and an eventual national title matchup against Florida State.
Florida State Seminoles Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 6/20/2014
The Florida State Seminoles ended last season in the most dramatic and thrilling way possible. The Seminoles completed a perfect 14-0 season by beating the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game 34-31 after falling into an 18-point deficit early in the second quarter. The game was ultimately decided by a 49-yard touchdown completion with 13 seconds left on the clock.
2015 College Football National Championship Picks and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/9/2014
I always love doing futures odds for a following season's championship immediately after the conclusion of a title game or series. It gives you a sense that the next season really isn't all that far away, although in college football it's about eight months before we see game action again. In some ways, handicapping college football National Championship futures odds is easy because you don't have to worry about free agency or trades. You know who graduates and what the schedule will be.
2014 BCS National Championship Picks: Auburn vs. Florida State Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 1/3/2014
The BCS is dead after this game. I may have little company on this, but I am going to miss it when it’s gone, and I’m not yet convinced that the playoff is a miracle solution that will make the world a better place. As the BCS dies, it certainly is going out with a bang. Three games have been played so far, and they have all had two things in common — they have been great games, and they have all ended with upset winners.
2013 Alamo Bowl Picks: Oregon vs. Texas Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 12/26/2013
The Alamo Bowl is a showdown between two high-profile teams that are not where they imagined being at this time of year. Oregon wanted to be playing in Pasadena instead of San Antonio. Texas didn’t have realistic aspirations of that level, but they didn’t expect to descend into the embarrassing circus that their program has become. In order to handicap this game, then, we need to be less handicappers and more psychologists.
2013 Hawaii Bowl Picks: Boise State vs. Oregon State Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 12/19/2013
While Santa is loading up his sleigh and starting on one heck of a road trip, the Beavers and Broncos will be clashing in sunny Hawaii. It certainly isn’t the best bowl game of the season — and given the Dec. 24 date, there is no reason to expect it would be — but there are plenty of storylines to make this one an interesting handicapping puzzle.
Weekly CFB Mid-Major Betting Report: UNLV Rebels Bowl Game
by Aaron Smith - 12/19/2013
It’s time for the bowl edition of the mid-major betting report. This year the team in focus is the UNLV Rebels. After lots of disappointment in recent years, the Rebels secured a New Year’s Day bowl berth against the North Texas Mean Green in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. A bowl game on New Year’s Day is a big deal for this program, and it’s a sign of how much progress has been made this season. I’ve been following the UNLV Rebels all year long to have a better understanding of this team. Bettors should consider closely following teams, because specialization is often one of the most profitable sports betting strategies.
Next Texas Longhorns Head Coach Props Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/18/2013
I would agree that in many ways Texas is the best head coaching job in college sports but also the worst. And, of course, now it's open with Mack Brown resigning/getting pushed out last week. I do find it rather humorous how self-important Texas is being in all this mess. It's like the Horns fans and boosters feel they "deserve" any coach they want.
NCAA Bowl Game Handicapping: Potential Upsets
by Trevor Whenham - 12/17/2013
For bettors, the college football bowl season can be a whole lot of fun. It’s like a restart on the entire season. Throughout the month of games there are going to be some upsets, and bettors who call those upsets are going to make out nicely. Here are five games with the potential to be upsets:
2013 Las Vegas Bowl Picks: Fresno State vs. USC Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 12/12/2013
I’m sure that there are teams that have gone through more coaching drama in a season than the Trojans have heading into this game, but I sure can’t think of any. They entered the season with the handicap of having Lane Kiffin at the helm. He was fired — in an airport parking lot, no less — and Ed Orgeron was named interim.
Betting College Bowl Games: Clashes of Style
by Trevor Whenham - 12/12/2013
One of the many things that make bowl games so interesting for bettors is that we get to see teams play each other that aren’t natural rivals. It can get dull to handicap the same teams playing each other every year, so this is when things get mixed up. That leads to fun and profit. What makes it particularly interesting is when the teams have clashing styles. Not only do we have to figure out how they will respond to teams they have never seen, but we have to decide how they will handle a style of play very different from their own — and often different from what they are used to.
