College Football Mid-Major Betting Report: Akron Zips Week 14
by Aaron Smith - 11/26/2014
Week 14 of the college football mid-major betting report is here. This is the fourth year Doc’s Sports has offered this report. The goal of this weekly article is to try to show bettors that specialization is a profitable betting strategy. It’s a strategy many of the best bettors in the world use. There are 128 FBS level teams in college football, so specialization is particularly relevant in this sport.
NCAA Football Picks and American Athletic Conference Week 14 Betting Report

East Carolina rolled over Tulane 34-6 this past Saturday to easily cover as an 18-point home favorite. Hitting this AAC “pick of the week” brought my year-to-date record a bit closer to .500 at 6-7, but even with the 4-Unit play I remain down for the year. With two weeks left in the regular season, the pressure is on to finish in the black.

The Fade the Top 25 Selections went 2-1 again last week. After a really slow start, the selections have been solid of late. It’s interesting to note that after 13 weeks of college football, the selections are right back at the breakeven point. The two winners were very good ones last week with Arkansas and Minnesota both winning outright.
NCAA Football Predictions: Week 14 Opening Line Report and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 11/24/2014
Rocked on my Week 13 picks in this space, getting Maryland over Michigan, Boston College covering (and nearly upsetting) Florida State, Louisville going into fading Notre Dame and beating the Irish, and Iowa covering at home (and nearly winning) vs. Wisconsin. The only miss was Duke against North Carolina as the Blue Devils imploded and cost themselves a return trip to the ACC Championship Game.

The Fade the Top 25 Selections went 2-1 last week. The lone loser was Clemson, and that one can easily be explained by the fact that Deshaun Watson went down with an injury in the first quarter. Cole Stoudt came in and managed to throw just as many interceptions as he did completions (three). Two of those interceptions were pick-sixes. Georgia was definitely the more motivated team as we expected in their battle vs. Auburn, and the Bulldogs throttled the Tigers in that one. Washington probably should have won outright against Arizona last week, but they easily covered the number, and that’s all we needed from them.

It has been a challenge handicapping the AAC this season with just two games separating the top seven teams in the standings. Temple’s 30-13 loss to Penn State this past Saturday as an 11-point road underdog dropped my year-to-date record for my weekly AAC picks to 5-7 on the year. The conference title remains completely up for grabs, so the get set for a wild finish over the final three weeks.

NCAA Football Predictions: Week 13 Opening Line Report and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 11/17/2014
So what's the fallout from Week 12 of the college football season? We certainly can waive goodbye to the College Football Playoff hopes of Auburn, which now can't return to the SEC Championship Game, and Arizona State. Georgia clobbered the Tigers 34-7 despite losing star running back Todd Gurley, the former Heisman leader, to a season-ending ACL tear.
Free NCAA Football Pick for Saturday Michigan State vs. Maryland
by CarbonSports - 11/14/2014
It isn't exactly tough sledding for Michigan State the rest of the year as they've got this game with Maryland, and games against Rutgers and Penn State left, but the players on the Spartans have to feel like there isn't much left to play for after their chance at a Big 10 Title when out the window with last week's loss to Ohio State.

Mississippi State is one of two remaining undefeated teams in College Football and currently hold the #1 ranking in the country. They've passed every brutal test playing in the SEC West has offered them so far, but there game @ #4 Alabama this week will be the toughest of them all. You simply have to look at the spread as the #4 team is favored by 8.5 points over an undefeated, #1 team.

I took it on the chin in last week’s AAC top pick with Houston losing to Tulane 31-24 as a heavy 17.5-point home favorite. That is the way it has gone in this conference all season long as we are still waiting for a team to take control of what has turned into a five-team logjam in the AAC title race.

After five straight weeks of profit, the Fade the Top 25 selections went 1-2 last week. I could probably spend the entire article complaining about Utah’s Kaelin Clay making the boneheaded move of the century by dropping the ball at the one-yard line, but I’ll spare you all. Needless to say, that Utah wager would have been in great shape were it not for a 14-point turnaround on that one play. If you haven’t seen, take a few seconds out of your day to see the worst of the worst from this season so far.
NCAA Football Predictions: Week 12 Opening Line Report and Picks

We got a bit more clarity on the College Football Playoff in Week 11. Say goodbye to Auburn, Michigan State, Kansas State and Notre Dame. Each suffered a second loss on the season, and no two-loss team is going to be in the national semifinals. The shocker was Auburn losing at home as a 22-point favorite to unranked Texas A&M. Possibly no team in college football history was luckier than Auburn last year, so it was about time that fortune didn't smile on the Tigers this time.

Free NCAA Football Betting Pick for Thursday: Cal at USC
by CarbonSports - 11/10/2014
Oregon may have clinched the Pac-12 North this past weekend with their big win over Utah, but the Pac-12 South is still up for grabs and the USC Trojans likely need to win out and get some help if they want to claim that division. USC and California (who is in the North), both had this past week off as they prepared for this Thursday night tilt and if you like offense this will be the game for you.
NCAA Football Picks and American Athletic Conference Week 11 Betting Report
by Dave Schwab - 11/5/2014
I went with Central Florida as an 11.5-point road favorite against Connecticut last Saturday as my AAC pick of the week, and not only did the Knights fail to cover, they actually lost that game to the Huskies 37-29 in a stunning turn of events in the conference title race. East Carolina also went down in defeat as a road favorite over Temple to further tighten up things up in the standings.

For a fifth straight week, the Fading the Top 25 selections were profitable. In fact, last week those selections went 2-0. At the end of last week’s edition of this weekly article, I said that I didn’t want to push our luck here and force selections. That strategy ended up paying off. Temple beat East Carolina outright as the Pirates turnover problems killed them. Auburn beat Ole Miss outright as well, though that game certainly could have gone either way.
NCAA Football Predictions: Week 11 Opening Line Report and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 11/3/2014
I think you can go ahead and put No. 2 Florida State in the four-team College Football Playoff now. The 2014 Seminoles are vastly more flawed than last year's dominant champions, but FSU passed its final major test last Thursday night, rallying from a 21-0 deficit to win 42-31 at Louisville. The Noles were saved right before halftime when Nick O'Leary recovered teammate Karlos Williams' fumble in the end zone to make it 21-7 and give FSU some momentum heading into the second half. If Louisville recovers that ball, I believe the Cardinals win. The Seminoles recorded 374 yards after halftime, more than Louisville had allowed in a full game.
Free College Football Pick for Thursday: Clemson vs. Wake Forest
by CarbonSports - 11/3/2014
Clemson and Wake Forest had last week off to prepare for this ACC showdown with the Demon Deacons looking to pull off the huge upset. Wake Forest hasn't beaten Clemson since 2008 (12-7) and in the five meetings since then they've been outscored 197-61. Blowout losses for Wake Forest have become the norm in this series with last year's 56-7 win for Clemson being the biggest of them all. But the Tigers aren't as good as they were a season ago and have really struggled to light up the scoreboard in their road contests this season.
