College Basketball Betting: Hot or Not Handicapping Report
by David Schwab - 2/20/2012
The final few weeks of the regular season college basketball schedule is upon us with the madness of March’s NCAA Tournament a little over a month away. While the top teams in the country continue to jockey for a favorable seed in the 68-team field, a couple of schools on the bubble are simply trying to earn an invitation to the Big Dance.
How RPI Plays Into College Basketball Handicapping
by T.O. Whenham - 2/16/2012
RPI is something you hear about a lot in college basketball. That talk intensifies as the postseason draws near. Most college basketball fans and bettors — even casual ones — have heard of RPI. They may even have a vague sense of what it is. Few people, though, really understand what it is and why it is significant. That’s where we come in.
College Basketball Handicapping: Bracket Buster Trends and Betting Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 2/16/2012
As a fan, this is a chance to see the game in pure form. I mean, what says, “College Basketball Perfection” like Presbyterian vs. Jacksonville State or Western Michigan vs. North Dakota State matchup. And the dozens of manufactured storylines that go into this weekend actually may do more to denigrate and condescend to mid-major teams than they do to actually give them a forum to pimp their wares.
2012 College Basketball: NCAA Tournament Futures Betting Odds
by Darin Zank - 2/15/2012
We've come to the stage in the sports betting season where college basketball now gets it's time in the spotlight. And as the din of the upcoming March Madness begins to grow, now might be a good time to size up the field for the upcoming NCAA Tournament and maybe get a read on some decent championship prices.
Beyond the Top 25 – A College Hoops Weekly

I say “enough” of the big-boy hierarchy that dominates college basketball. Well, at least for this week. Saturday marks another edition of Bracket Buster weekend. This week’s ‘Beyond the Top 25’ is going to be simple: we are spotlighting the best of mid-majors outside the national polls.
College Basketball Betting: Hot or Not Handicapping Report
by David Schwab - 2/13/2012
The 2011-12 college basketball schedule enters the second half of February with the madness of March lurking right around the corner. The top teams in the country continue to try and build an overall resume that is worthy of a top seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, while a few Cinderella’s are sharpening their form for a long run in the big dance.
College Basketball Handicapping: Any Betting Value on Murray State After Loss?
by T.O. Whenham - 2/10/2012
I have been wanting to write about Murray State for quite a while now. Of course, I wanted to write a different article than I will be writing now. Before Thursday night the Racers were a huge story. They had won 23 games in a row, were ranked as high as No. 7 in the country, and seemed to have a very good shot at ending the season undefeated.
College Basketball Player of the Year Updated Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 2/9/2012
Back on Nov. 8 here at Doc’s, my predictions story for the 2011-12 NCAA Basketball Player of the Year was unveiled. It’s time to do a revisit of this story as there is only about a month left in the regular season and Bovada has re-posted updated odds on this college basketball prop.

It’s the first full week of February, and when talking college basketball that means one thing for me: Bracket Buster Saturday. For my enjoyment, this one particular weekend in mid-February has arguably the best offerings in college basketball (pre-March Madness, of course). You get a handful of the best mid-major on mid-major matchups, while still getting your fix of top matchups from all the big leagues around the country.
College Basketball Picks: Duke at North Carolina Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 2/7/2012
I’m here with a special Wednesday NCAA basketball game preview because the greatest rivalry in college basketball, and perhaps in all of sports, is renewed – with as much hype as you would expect from Blue Devils homer network ESPN – when No. 9 Duke visits No. 5 North Carolina in a key ACC game.
College Basketball Betting: Hot or Not Handicapping Report
by David Schwab - 2/6/2012
The NCAA men’s basketball season forges on towards the madness of March with the top teams in the country continuing to build an overall resume that is worthy of a top seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament. A few ‘under-the-radar’ teams continue to emerge as potential cinderellas for the Big Dance through their surprising performance on the court, while a couple of other household names on in danger of being left out altogether of the eventual 68-team NCAA Tournament field.
College Basketball Picks: Kansas at Missouri Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 2/3/2012
It was a pretty easy choice for the NCAA basketball game of the day this Saturday as No. 8 Kansas visits No. 4 Missouri in the only matchup of Top-10 teams on the day. It’s the 14th time they have met as Top-10 teams (KU leads 9-5).
Weekend College Basketball Handicapping Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 2/3/2012
Beware of the “All Of A Sudden” Expert. Football is coming to a grand end with the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 5. Once our National Pastime has been put to rest college basketball will become the forefront of our nation’s sports betting scene.

The Top 10 is looking as flimsy as ever. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Sure, there isn’t a clear-cut No. 1 team and it stays shaky after that. But Kentucky is my pick as the nation’s top team and has been since the season began and they are holding down the top spot.
College Basketball Betting: Hot or Not Handicapping Report
by David Schwab - 1/30/2012
The NCAA men’s basketball season closes out the month of January tonight. And while the top teams in the country continue to polish up their resumes for this year’s NCAA Tournament in March, there have been a few other teams to emerge as potential gate-crashers for the big dance through their performance on the court so far.
College Basketball Picks: Kentucky at LSU Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/27/2012
Sometimes, despite a team’s recent results, an upcoming matchup screams “trap game.” It’s easy for me to say this without having published such a thing here at Doc’s Sports, but last Saturday’s Syracuse at Notre Dame game looked for all the world like a major trap for the Orange. And they indeed suffered their first loss of the season and fell from the top of the polls a few days later. The only reason I didn’t write that game was I had covered Syracuse twice before.
College Basketball Handicapping: Personnel Subtractions
by Robert Ferringo - 1/25/2012
Two weeks ago the Syracuse men’s basketball team was a godless killing machine. They were the No. 1 team in the country and were decimating opponents with a roster that went 10-deep and with an attack that sent wave after wave of skilled players pounding against their opponents.

You knew Syracuse was eventually going to have a setback. As well as the Orange were playing, combined with a down Big East, perhaps the thought of an undefeated season was beginning to kick in. The thing is, I doubt many thought it would be Notre Dame to deal Syracuse its first loss of the season. But that was the case last Saturday.
College Basketball Picks: Florida State at Duke Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/21/2012
I was planning to preview last Saturday’s North Carolina-Florida State matchup because I thought the Seminoles had a great chance to upset the then-No. 3 Tar Heels. FSU tends to always knock off a Top-5 team once a season at home. But then I thought it was time to give Baylor its due as one of only three unbeaten teams left in the country, so I changed up at the last minute and previewed the Bears hosting Oklahoma State.
College Basketball Handicapping: Kentucky Worst ATS Team in Nation
by Robert Ferringo - 1/21/2012
The Kentucky Wildcats are the worst men’s basketball team in the country. Well, that is, they are the worst team in the country if you are trying to turn a profit betting on college basketball. At 18-1 straight up Kentucky is No. 2 in the country and at 4-to-1 they are presently the odds-on favorites at Bovada to win the National Championship. They are the cream of the SEC crop and they have a roster dotted with future NBA players.
